Chapter 89: Chapter 89
Mart walked following Nirian’s follower, along a path paved with white stones, the surroundings were clear.
"I think I should be more careful from now on, if those conspirators had completely investigated the profiles of the prodigies, who knows what they will try to do to me now that I interfered in their plans; maybe, it is already time to use the rewards of the system; but I still have to finish the report and soon will be the final exams; when the mid-year break starts...", Mart was thinking until he heard Nirian’s follower who informed him that they were in front of the big green walls formed by evenly cut plants.
Since there was only one green wall in front of them this time, they waited a few seconds until the plants contracted showing the entrance to the inside of the labyrinth.
-Sorry for the delay, I will guide you to your destination. -A minotaur in an elegant suit indicated politely.
Mart nodded and followed the minotaur, they walked through the corridors, Mart observed the walls and they did not seem to move, when they reached the path with blue flowers, it took only seconds to reach the entrance to the area where Nirian was.
Mart entered and the entrance disappeared shortly after, Nirian’s follower remained outside.
As Mart walked along he saw the thoughtful expression on the beautiful Nirian’s face.
-It is a pleasure to see you again, Miss Arcariz. -Mart expressed with a cordial tone, and then sat down on the chair in front of the glass table.
Nirian looked at Mart with her beautiful blue eyes, her gaze was inquisitive, a few seconds later, she asked him:
-Why do you do everything you do? Is it because you are a believer of Alvat?
"Again you mention about being a believer of Alvat. Apparently it is a position of respect. Is Professor Helen a believer in Alvat?", Mart had become immersed in his thoughts, so Nirian said:
-I’m sorry to bother you. I was just frustrated. I had to leave my peers behind, despite being called a prodigy, I did nothing to show for it.
Nirian paused, Mart looked at her and a few seconds later said to her in a serene and somewhat reflective tone:
-Don’t be impatient, Miss Nirian. I was close to dying, but for Miss Isirid’s ability and experience, I would have died. It is only a few years too many, and she proved to me that those years are worth more than gold, she is trustworthy. But, so are you, and you will be even more so. Both Meleic and I, suffered serious injuries, I was just a little luckier. Don’t rush, to lose you would be to lose someone irreplaceable, if you listen to me now, I am sure that in a few years, you will be satisfied when you see the fruits of your talent and effort.
When Mart stopped; Nirian turned his gaze to the flowers in the surroundings.
Mart for his part looked at the sky, he could perceive how the clouds were not only changing position by the movement of the wind. "The demonic magic that keeps this labyrinth moving is fascinating and powerful," Mart thought, until Nirian, after taking a deep breath, told him matter-of-factly:
-My father wishes you to know that he is very grateful for your contribution, and he wants you to know that he is willing to pay the right price for any information you obtain in the future that is related to the perpetrators of the attacks that occurred on Marrac Mountain and in Damtes City.
"Boy, this family is fast. Next time I sell them information I’ll make sure I have everything prepared, I don’t want to be in an unfavorable position again," Mart thought before replying:
-I’ll take that into consideration. But for the moment, I don’t have any additional information.
-All right, I’ll let my father know.
The two remained silent, until Mart asked:
-Miss Arcariz, I would like to buy a cake?
Nirian shook a small silver bell, a few minutes later Nirian’s follower entered with a white box in his hands and approached Mart.
Mart stood up, took the box and thanked Nirian’s follower. Then he looked at Nirian to say:
-I thank you, Miss Arcariz. I bid you farewell.
-Go ahead. -Nirian nodded.
After saying goodbye, Mart walked towards the only exit, waited in the corridor, and soon a minotaur in a fancy suit approached, this time the tour was the fastest of all the ones he had done while walking in the labyrinth.
Once out of the mazes he walked towards the corridors that led to the cafeteria.
"I only have half the day left; I’ll grab a bite to eat at the cafeteria, go deliver the cake slices, then head to the library to finish my essay." thought Mart as he reached the cafeteria.
••••
Mart, who left the cafeteria a few minutes earlier, was now in front of Selis and Asfil’s room. He knocked three times, but no one opened, he waited a few seconds, with his demonic perception, he had already realized that Asfil was inside.
-I’ll leave two slices of cake here. Please! Take them as soon as I’m gone. -Said Mart as he pulled out of his demonic bag two white containers he bought at the cafeteria in which the cake slices were contained, and left them floating in front of the door.
Mart went up some stairs, and a few seconds later, he reached the next floor, knocked three times on the door of Selenia’s room.
-You’re here. Iristel told me you wanted to talk to me. -Selenia said blushing as she opened the door, wearing a simple red dress that she used to wear in her room.
-May I come in? -Mart asked.
She opened the door fully and he entered, in the room there were still sheets of paper with demonic diagrams everywhere. Mart could also faintly sense the cursed energy in some diagrams on Selenia’s desk.
Mart sat in a chair and Selenia sat on the edge of the bed.
-How is your family? -Mart asked seriously.
-Don’t worry, I warned them since I started dating you. My family has money, we hired mercenaries and adventurers to protect us. -Selenia answered, looking calm.
-If something happens, don’t hide it from me, it’s my duty as your partner to protect you. Never, no matter what, doubt me.
Selenia nodded.
-The power of the curses is great, the wizard who created the letter with the cursed diagram, I would say he is as skilled as Headmaster Persec. But that doesn’t mean I’m afraid of him, especially if he threatens the demons I care about. -Mart concluded, took out a container with a slice of cake, placed it on the desk, and added: -Enjoy it.
Mart stood up, gave Selenia a kiss on the forehead, a drop of blood ran down her forehead, and then left the room taking a handkerchief to his mouth to wipe the faint trace of blood in his mouth.
When Mart came back downstairs, he saw that the containers he had left floating in front of Asfil and Selis’ room were gone, after that he walked back down the corridors towards the maids’ sleeping quarters.
Knock knock knock
Mart knocked three times on the door, Menna opened it again, she was wearing a pastel blue blouse tight to her breasts and black white pants with white lace.
-The dead man has risen! -Menna joked with her relaxed attitude.
Mart touched the white horn to Menna’s forehead and asked quietly:
-You saw me too?
-Yes, when everything was calming down, I accompanied Selenia; since I was also curious, and I saw, like many students, how they carried you on a stretcher in a pitiful state. -After answering Menna turned away.
Mart took out two containers with cakes and told her:
-One is for Iristel.
-You can go in and wait for her. -Menna turned away from the door.
Mart smiled and told her with subtle mischief:
-No, you’re very attractive, and you’re dressed provocatively. I’m afraid I won’t be able to contain myself.
As Mart watched as this time Menna just smiled flirtatiously at his provocation, he asked the system in his mind, "System Can you detect the energy of the demon god?". Mart activated his demonic perception to the maximum for a second.
[No trace of demon god energy detected].
-Another time, I still have some assignments to hand in. -Mart said to Menna, after she waved her hand and pointed inside the room.
Mart after having checked that there were no longer any traces of the demon god’s energy around the maids’ dormitory building, he walked off down the corridors, and headed towards the library.
"Apparently they are quite determined and cautious; they didn’t leave a single conspirator with demon god energy. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t traitors among those who don’t possess demon god energy."
