Chapter 22 The Corpse Horde

Su Ling merely glanced in the direction of the alley and continued on, with no intention of saving anyone.

The bitter lessons of her past life were still fresh, and in this life, Su Ling didn't want to meddle in affairs beyond a few important people.

As the saying goes, once bitten by a snake, one fears a well rope for ten years. Su Ling was truly scared.

Not long after Su Ling had walked away, she found she could no longer proceed.

This was because the sharp female voice had attracted the zombies wandering in the city center.

The once deserted streets were now swarming with hordes of zombies, surging forward with ferocity, their numbers seemingly endless.

Watching the densely packed, surging zombie horde, Su Ling gripped the Tang dao in her hand, ready for a fierce battle.

She had a fallback plan; if things got too bad, she could always hide in her portable space.

The thought of those moving zombies representing crystal cores made Su Ling lick her lips beneath her mask, eager for the fight.

The zombies had initially been drawn by the sound, but upon seeing the vibrant Su Ling, they became exceptionally excited, emitting terrifying growls.

As the apocalypse had just begun, the skin on the faces of these former humans had not yet rotted or decayed.

However, it wouldn't be long before this intact skin would rot and sag on their faces, rendering them unrecognizable, grotesque, and terrifying.

Following Su Ling's gaze, a zombie in the corner of the moving horde was tearing off flesh from its own face and chewing it ravenously. The zombie beside it, seeing this, shuffled closer and began gnawing on the dangling flesh.

None of this stopped the zombie horde from advancing, all of them rushing towards Su Ling with eagerness.

Su Ling's dao cleaved into the neck of an oncoming zombie, instantly separating its head from its body. She kicked the body away, causing it to fall and knock over the zombies lunging from behind.

Before more zombies could pounce, she cleaved through the head of a zombie to search for a crystal core, and if none was found, she immediately moved to the next.

Another swing of her dao lopped off half of another zombie's head. Seeing the white crystal core rolling on the ground, Su Ling's pupils lit up.

After dealing with the closest zombies, Su Ling bent down to pick up the white crystal core. With swift movements of her blade, she finished off the zombie in front of her with a single strike, then spun around and delivered another blow, felling the zombie.

This Tang dao of hers was truly a fine treasure.

Observing the zombies searching for crystal cores, Su Ling repeated these two actions relentlessly until she was drenched in sweat and the sun hung directly overhead. Her energy was severely depleted.

To her dismay, the number of zombies did not decrease but rather seemed to increase, showing a subtle upward trend.

Although the apocalypse had just begun and these zombies were not yet evolved, their sheer numbers were overwhelming. Su Ling, who had been full of energy at first, gradually found herself struggling.

Looking at the endless stream of zombies that showed no sign of stopping, Su Ling, after dispatching the closest one, was once again forced to retreat, creating some distance before she retrieved her bicycle and rode away.

Behind her, the zombie horde followed, their movements slow and stiff.

Su Ling rode her bicycle swiftly, quickly widening the gap between herself and the horde.

The zombies that had been chasing Su Ling soon lost their target and stopped in place, milling around aimlessly.

Meanwhile, Su Ling had already embarked on her journey back to the villa district.

As she passed the mandatory route leading to the villa district, Su Ling stopped.

She clearly remembered zombies wandering this stretch of road. Why were there none now? Even the survivors in the cars were nowhere to be seen.

Just as Su Ling was lost in thought, a scream echoed from the direction of the villa district: "Ah—"

Hearing this sound, Su Ling's brow furrowed, and she looked towards the villa district. Could it be that all the zombies had swarmed in that direction?
