Su Ling rode her bicycle at full speed. Before she even reached the villa area, she could hear screams erupting one after another.
The cries were incessant, fully expressing pain and despair.
Su Ling stopped pedaling. She put her bicycle into her portable space, took out an apple, and started eating as she walked.
She gripped the cleaned and sheathed Tang dao in her hand again. By the time she finished the large apple, Su Ling had arrived at the main gate of the villa area. Seeing the gaping, smashed gate, her heart grew cold as she understood what had happened.
Discarding the apple core, Su Ling cautiously entered the villa area, holding her Tang dao.
She hadn't gone far when she saw several zombies gathered at a turn in the road ahead, feeding.
Blood stained their faces as they greedily devoured dripping chunks of flesh in their hands.
Su Ling was long accustomed to such sights. She stepped forward with her Tang dao. Before the feeding zombies noticed her, she swiftly brought her blade down, and several zombie heads rolled to her feet.
Su Ling showed no mercy. She used her Tang dao to split open their heads and rummaged through them.
She split open all the zombie heads, searching them all, but found nothing.
At this moment, the half-eaten corpse behind her, which had been dismembered, stood up with creaking bones, revealing fangs as it lunged at Su Ling.
Su Ling turned, and her Tang dao directly severed the zombie's neck, its head separating from its body as it fell with a thud.
In this doomsday world, if one was bitten by a zombie and their blood was infected by the zombie virus, the speed at which they turned into a zombie depended on the extent of the injury. This unfortunate survivor had not only been devoured by zombies but had also become one of them after death, only to be killed by Su Ling.
Even though it was just a head, Su Ling did not let it go. She split it open to search for a crystal core.
To her surprise, Su Ling, who had not held out much hope, found something: a white crystal core.
She continued her journey, stopping intermittently. Su Ling killed several groups of zombies feeding together and harvested a few more crystal cores.
Passing through a road lined with flowerbeds, Su Ling drew closer to her villa. The situation in the residential area was more dire. Most of the zombies were gathered and wandering around this vicinity; some had even entered the villas.
Su Ling had no choice but to clear out the zombies to ensure the safety of the villa area.
However, after this ordeal, the villa area was no longer habitable.
The weather was hot, and the corpses lying under the sun would soon rot and ferment, breeding bacteria and polluting the environment.
Su Ling, who should have been heading home, had to circle the villa area again, clearing out the zombies that had been lured in from outside.
When she returned to her own villa, dragging her weary, sweat-soaked body, she saw a car parked in front of her villa from a distance.
She approached the car with her bulging backpack slung over her shoulders and stopped, utterly bewildered as to why the car was parked right in front of her house.
Just then, the voice she had heard that morning rang out from behind her: "It's her! It was her who drove the zombies in, destroying our safe haven and causing innocent people to die at the hands of those monsters."
Su Ling turned around. Jiao Jiao, with her arms crossed, walked out of her villa, followed by Xu Yu and some other survivors.
It turned out that when Jiao Jiao and Xu Yu drove back to the villa area, they were terrified by the zombies following them. The cowardly pair, not daring to get out of the car to open the villa area gate, simply drove through it and headed towards their residence.
Knowing they had caused trouble, the two were unwilling to bear the consequences. After discussing it, they decided to park their car at Su Ling's door and frame her.
To appear kind, the two got out of the car, ran back into the villa, and deliberately acted as if they had just emerged, kindly warning their surviving neighbors.
Su Ling looked at Jiao Jiao and the others with cold eyes. She said nothing, merely walked around the car and went to the main gate, preparing to enter her villa with the password.
Seeing this, Jiao Jiao immediately raised her voice and said, "Don't let her in! She caused our losses, and she must leave the contents of her bag as compensation!"
