Chapter 21 The Tragic Scene

Jiao Jiao and Xu Yu drove out of the villa district, and were completely stunned when they saw the devastated world outside.

"Brother Xu Yu, be careful!"

If it weren't for Jiao Jiao's warning, their car would have crashed into the approaching zombies.

Xu Yu abruptly turned the steering wheel, performing a stylish drift and narrowly avoiding a collision with the zombies.

The car stopped sideways on the road. Jiao Jiao, in the passenger seat, looked out the window:

Cars crashed into buildings, cars mangled beyond recognition, zombies wandering around covered in blood, corpses drained of life and being torn apart by zombies, survivors cowering in cars with pale, terrified faces, smoke and flames... everything was beyond their comprehension.

"Bang-bang-bang," the zombies suddenly lunged at the car window and pounded on it, startling Jiao Jiao, who was looking outside, into a scream as she scrambled into Xu Yu's arms.

Jiao Jiao's scream undoubtedly agitated the zombies outside the car. They emitted constant guttural sounds, excited by the prospect of food.

Jiao Jiao's little face turned pale with fear, her body went limp. She grabbed Xu Yu's arm, "Drive! Drive quickly!"

Xu Yu was also trembling with fear, his hands shaking. It took him a while to start the car.

As soon as the car started, the zombies clinging to the window were knocked over by the wheels and pulled underneath, where they were crushed.

The car jolted, and Jiao Jiao and Xu Yu's hearts leaped into their throats.

The commotion attracted other zombies, who flocked towards them upon hearing the noise.

Jiao Jiao looked at the moving zombies, at the bloodstains on their clothes, at the blood on their faces, and the bits of flesh and fragments of teeth, and felt an overwhelming nausea. "Go back, quickly go back, back to our home."

For Jiao Jiao, that was undoubtedly the safest place.

After all, the zombies active within the villa district had all been dealt with by Su Ling.

However, it was precisely their actions that led those zombies to swarm into the, at that point, relatively safe villa district. By the time Su Ling returned, the mess in the villa district would undoubtedly add to her workload.

After dealing with a batch of zombies, Su Ling obtained a transparent crystal core, which ignited her fighting spirit.

She rode her bicycle for a while, but found it cumbersome. She found a deserted corner, stored the bicycle in her space, and then drew her Tang saber to proceed on foot.

There were a few zombies scattered along the road. With a flick of her wrist, she would split their heads open in search of crystal cores. If there were none, she moved on.

She killed an unknown number of zombies. As she approached the main urban area, Su Ling clearly noticed an increase in the number of zombies on the road.

This excited Su Ling, as it meant a large number of crystal cores awaited her.

Standing in the shade of a tree, Su Ling reached into her bag, actually retrieving food from her space to replenish her energy.

She took out a bottle of water and a packaged box.

Squatting in the shade, she placed her Tang saber aside, unscrewed the cap of the water bottle, washed her hands, opened the packaging, and began to feast on the spicy and fragrant braised pig trotters next to the pile of zombie corpses she had just slain.

After finishing one box of pig trotters, she took out another from her bag and continued eating.

After she finished that, she took out a nectarine and began to eat it.

She tossed the pit of the eaten nectarine into her bag, actually planting it in her personal space. After finishing the bottle of water, Su Ling put on her mask, picked up her Tang saber, stood up, and commenced her next round of slaughter.

Early-stage zombies were easy to deal with. With Su Ling's current abilities, she could handle them with ease.

However, in the later stages, zombies would also evolve, and that would be the true test for survivors.

Su Ling had just dealt with a zombie that lunged at her and was sifting through it for a crystal core when she heard cries for help from an alley on the next street.

"Ah, help meβ€”"
