Capítulo 915: Chapter 913: Spear and Shield
“Compared to the effects of the potion, this little side effect is totally acceptable, really.” Bobbobovic said confidently, “Now watch me in action, hic—!”
Speaking, Bobbobovic hiccuped while charging towards the moose.
“Bang!”
Bobbobovic threw a punch, with the power of the potion surging from deep within, transmitting along his arm, and quickly injecting into the attacked target—the moose.
The moose’s hair stood on end abruptly, with a large amount of white steam piercing through its skin and spraying out; then its bones seemed to suddenly dissolve, and it collapsed to the ground with a “thud”.
The moose struggled; it wasn’t dead, nor was it seriously injured.
But having lost the support of its skeleton, its flesh and skin exerted pressure on its internal organs, slowly squeezing and flattening them, leading the moose to cough up blood and breathe its last—just like a stranded whale suffocated by its own weight without the buoyancy of the sea.
After dealing with the first moose, Bobbobovic took a moment to hiccup again and charged towards the second moose.
“Hic, bang!”
Then the third, the fourth…
Another third of the moose were “surrounded” and then hunted one by one.
Now, only the last third of the moose remained.
Richard made his move.
He didn’t use the Miniature Magic Tracking Missile, as that could easily affect Bobbobovic or Heluo, nor did he use Death Finger or the Destructive Gloves, which would be too wasteful.
He slowly raised his hand, and dots of light emerged from his fingers, gathering, gradually forming two sparkling objects—a Glowing Spear and a Light Giant Shield.
The spear’s name, Langdonick’s Spear, is the Glowing Spear, the Gun of Glory, rendering the holder invincible.
The shield’s name, Emmsley’s Shield, is the Glowing Shield, the Immortal Shield, allowing the holder to withstand anything.
This was something Richard learned after exchanging a large amount of spell data from the Truth Society’s branch during his research.
Both spells are of Third Circle level, one focusing on attack, claiming to be unbreakable, the other on defense, claiming absolute defense, akin to this world’s version of the “spear and shield” story.
Richard had tested before; when the two clash, they are roughly equal, and which prevails depends on the energy the spellcasters continue to inject.
Now he used these two spells not out of boredom, nor to test which is stronger again, but to resolve the remaining moose.
The moose’s strength was about equivalent to a First-level Wizard, and even though there were quite a few, the Third Circle Magic was more than enough… Richard thought, waving his hand as the Glowing Spear whooshed out, directly piercing through a moose’s body.
In the instant it was pierced, the moose didn’t die, but a finger-thick small hole was punched through it.
The next moment, dazzling light burst from the small hole, a “miniature sun” exploding inside the moose, with each burst of light akin to a spear, instantly piercing every part of the moose’s body.
This was exactly the explanation of the Glowing Spear—to be king of a thousand spears, when an enemy is struck, it is followed by a thousand auxiliary spear projections, striking the enemy to end them.
“Bang!”
The moose had no chance of survival under this attack, falling heavily to the ground dead.
Richard looked on, with no sorrow or pity, waving his hand to direct the Glowing Spear towards another target, while the Light Giant Shield easily blocked some electric balls flying over.
The battle continued like this…
…
A moment later.
“Swoosh!”
Heluo flashed onto the back of the last moose, her right hand ready to release a spell, but her left hand stretched out first, softly patting the moose’s head.
“Clap!”
The moose swayed, like a drunk, falling to the ground, never to get up again. If the moose’s skull were to be opened, one would find its entire brain shredded like tofu.
Heluo floated down, landing on the ground beside, pausing. She looked at her left hand, shook her head, and regretfully extinguished the golden-red fireball in her right hand, looking towards Bobbobovic and Richard.
At this moment, Bobbobovic, hiccupping, was examining the moose carcasses on the ground, looking for anything he could use to brew potions—after all, money is something to be saved wherever possible.
Richard pursed his lips, lost in thought.
“Have you discovered anything?” Heluo asked, then shared her own finding, “These demonized moose aren’t very strong. In my view, they might have killed the first batch of explorers in the Silent Forest. But killing off the second batch would be difficult, let alone the third batch, since there are two Third-level Wizards among them.
Third-level Wizards aren’t just for show; they’re more than enough to crush demonized moose. If they can’t win, they can at least flee, maybe getting slightly injured at most—there’s no way they’d be severely wounded, much less killed. So, in my opinion, these demonized moose shouldn’t be the reason for the failure of the three expeditions, at least not the main reason.”
“Hic! I… I think so too. I think… these demonized moose might be an accidental situation, perhaps misled into attacking us… Hic!” Bobbobovic stood up, still hiccupping, and said.
Richard glanced at Bobbobovic and asked, “What, you still can’t stop hiccupping?”
“Just a side effect, no big deal, it doesn’t really affect anything, hic!” Bobbobovic waved it off, “It’ll stop soon, really, hic!”
“Alright.” Richard said no more, turned to Heluo, and said, “Here’s my guess, I think these demonized moose might indeed be an accident, but they weren’t misled to attack us; they were likely driven to attack us.
In other words, even without demonized moose, there might be demonized reindeer or roe deer. They are expendable, not at all key, the crucial factor is what’s driving them; that’s the real culprit behind the exploration failures of the first three attempts in the forest.”
“If that’s the case, then what’s the reason for them being driven to attack?” Heluo asked, “If the enemy wants to deal with us, then employing such a tactic seems unwise, reducing their strength for no reason. The best strategy should be to have the moose cooperate in attack, not sending them to their deaths meaninglessly.”
Bobbobovic somewhat agreed, “Yeah, what’s the logic in doing so, hic!”
“The reason is simple, they’re probing.” Richard said.
“Probing?”
“Prob… hic… ing?”
Richard glanced at Bobbobovic, exhaled, and said, “Yes, probing. I still don’t know who or what is hidden within the forest acting as the force behind, but based on my assumptions, the enemy possesses considerable wisdom.”
