Chapter 305: Chapter 278: Possibly Not Due to Illness...
Gu Yanjing and Qiao Yuxian accompanied Old Sir Gu at the hospital all night. Neither of them got much sleep.
Gu Yanjing told Qiao Yuxian to get some rest, but Qiao Yuxian couldn’t fall asleep.
In the morning, Old Sir Gu woke up, ate something, and seemed a bit more energetic than the previous night.
Old Sir Gu told Qiao Yuxian to go home and rest. Qiao Yuxian agreed verbally, but she didn’t leave.
She insisted on staying, and Gu Yanjing didn’t force her to leave.
He arranged a leave of absence for her at the company and had someone take Qiao Zhiang to school.
It wasn’t until almost ten in the morning when the attending doctor came to see Gu Yanjing and discussed the morning’s blood test results.
Qiao Yuxian followed over.
The blood test results didn’t show any major issues, just a slight cold that caused some elevated blood levels.
Being elderly, with insufficient exercise, also resulted in some lower blood indexes.
There wasn’t anything too concerning.
The main issue was still his heart.
The best solution was surgery, but the risk was too high. The doctor urged Gu Yanjing to consider it carefully.
After the doctor spoke to Gu Yanjing, Qiao Yuxian asked about the blood test results again.
When the nurse came to draw blood in the morning, Qiao Yuxian was there asking what blood indexes were being tested.
She then requested a few additional tests, and the nurse drew two more tubes of blood to have the doctor order tests once he was on duty.
Qiao Yuxian pursued the issue further about the results.
The doctor said everything was fine.
Qiao Yuxian asked, "Can I see all the test results?"
"Of course." The doctor gave all the test results to Qiao Yuxian.
Qiao Yuxian carefully examined each page, even the normal blood levels, scrutinizing all the values.
Seeing that everything was fine, she finally breathed a small sigh of relief.
Standing next to her, Gu Yanjing could clearly sense her visibly relax a bit.
He suddenly had a conjecture that either Old Sir Qiao or Mrs. Qiao might not have passed away due to illness.
After Qiao Yuxian looked over the test results, she handed them back to the doctor saying, "Thank you."
"You’re welcome."
The two of them left the office, and Qiao Yuxian was silent for a while before looking at Gu Yanjing and asking, "Should we proceed with the surgery?"
Gu Yanjing also remained silent for a moment, holding her hand, his thumb gently rubbing her hand back as he said, "I’d rather not for now. I’m worried he might not make it off the operating table."
Qiao Yuxian squeezed his fingers.
Gu Yanjing, having stayed up all night, apart from having some redness in his eyes, appeared as usual, indifferent, strong, and showing no emotions.
No sign of fatigue, no indication of worry.
But Qiao Yuxian could feel his deep inner unease.
"It’s okay." Gu Yanjing comforted her, "Huang Qi will arrive in the afternoon; let him take a look before deciding."
"That Chinese medicine friend?" Qiao Yuxian asked.
"Yeah." Gu Yanjing responded.
Qiao Yuxian nodded, "Grandpa will be fine."
"Yeah." Gu Yanjing said, "Should I have Meng Yan take you home?"
"I want to stay here," Qiao Yuxian replied.
"Go home and rest for a while before coming back." Gu Yanjing suggested.
Qiao Yuxian shook her head, "I’ll stay here. You rest during the day, and I’ll go home in the evening. Don’t try to persuade me; I’m not leaving."
She didn’t want to go home, didn’t want to leave Gu Yanjing here alone.
Gu Yanjing touched her head gently and said nothing more.
When they returned to the ward, Gu Yicheng and Ji Xiaoxiao had arrived.
Gu Yicheng was initially sitting by the bed talking to Old Sir Gu. Upon seeing Gu Yanjing enter the ward, he immediately stood up and moved aside.
Ji Xiaoxiao also moved to the side and called out, "Mr. Gu."
Gu Yicheng said, "Bro, sis-in-law."
Gu Yanjing and Qiao Yuxian responded.
Old Sir Gu said, "Xiao Xiao, you should change the way you address him. Calling him Mr. Gu is too formal."
Ji Xiaoxiao looked at Old Sir Gu, then at Gu Yanjing, moved her lips, and very softly called, "Bro."
"Hmm." Gu Yanjing responded indifferently.
Ji Xiaoxiao then looked at Qiao Yuxian, but for a moment, her mouth seemed to glue shut, unable to open.
Seeing her looking over, Qiao Yuxian stepped back and said, "What is it? I don’t have money to give you for changing how you address me."
Ji Xiaoxiao: "...Who wants your address-change fee."
"If you call me sis-in-law, there’s an address-change fee involved." Qiao Yuxian said.
"Who wants to call you sis-in-law," Ji Xiaoxiao retorted.
"If you don’t call me sis-in-law, what are you calling me?" Qiao Yuxian added, "Aunt? That works too, Gu Yanjing doesn’t mind if I go up a generation. It’s fine with me."
"You..." Ji Xiaoxiao was so exasperated she couldn’t speak.
Gu Yanjing placed his hand on top of Qiao Yuxian’s head.
Qiao Yuxian shrank her neck back and looked up to smile at him.
Gu Yanjing ruffled her hair a little.
Watching their interaction, Ji Xiaoxiao’s eyes showed a trace of envy.
Old Sir Gu smiled, "Girls are still the best. Just looking at them makes people happy. Unlike these two poker faces, simply looking at them is worrisome."
Gu Yicheng stood to the side, not daring to speak.
Qiao Yuxian laughed, "But poker faces can bring girls home. This way, grandpa gets to have both poker faces and adorable girls around him."
Old Sir Gu laughed heartily, "Then grandpa really has hit the jackpot."
Qiao Yuxian also laughed, sitting on a chair on the other side of the bed, "Grandpa, do you want an apple? I’ll peel it for you."
"Let Gu Yanjing peel it," Old Sir Gu said.
"It’s okay, mine will be sweeter." Qiao Yuxian replied.
Gu Yanjing’s eyes were fixed on Qiao Yuxian, quietly watching her.
Old Sir Gu’s condition wasn’t very stable, and Gu Yicheng and Ji Xiaoxiao didn’t leave in the morning either.
Old Sir Gu slept for a while, woke for a while, hardly getting proper rest.
The four of them stayed in the ward until nearly lunchtime, when Qiao Yuxian and Ji Xiaoxiao went outside to fetch hot water.
Ji Xiaoxiao asked, "Are you going to the Xi Mei Media anniversary celebration?"
"Yes." Qiao Yuxian looked at her, "Are you going?"
"Of course, I have to go." Ji Xiaoxiao responded, "My studio just opened recently, and we might have many collaborations in the future. It’s such a good opportunity to get acquainted."
Qiao Yuxian tilted her head to look at her, "Why do you look so haggard?"
Ji Xiaoxiao glanced at her, "Didn’t sleep well."
Qiao Yuxian felt she didn’t seem like she hadn’t slept well, more like she was preoccupied with something.
But since Ji Xiaoxiao didn’t say, she didn’t ask further.
The two of them each took a kettle, and when they reached the hot water room, there happened to be two water dispensers, so they each filled a kettle.
Qiao Yuxian had just finished when Ji Xiaoxiao suddenly yelled.
Then there was the sound of something falling to the ground, bouncing several times.
Qiao Yuxian quickly looked over and saw Ji Xiaoxiao holding her right hand, blowing on it continually, her face going pale.
Qiao Yuxian walked over to her side, seeing a red burn mark on the back of Ji Xiaoxiao’s right hand.
"It hurts so much! What happened?!" Ji Xiaoxiao exclaimed.
Qiao Yuxian looked up, meeting her eyes, seeing that Ji Xiaoxiao was on the verge of tears, "What should we do? Let’s see a doctor."
