Chapter 5 Lightning and Thunder
When hot water finally came out of the shower, Ye Shenge, standing under the spray, felt that even if the sky were to fall, it wouldn't matter much.
She spent some time reading in the study, her heart filled with contentment at the sight of the books surrounding her. This study was her favorite place, filled with countless books of all kinds, the most luxurious massage chair, and a tea table stocked with an abundance of herbal teas for her enjoyment while reading.
Looking out the window at the crops she had planted brought a deep sense of satisfaction. The land within her space required no tilling from Ye Shenge; she only needed to scatter the seeds.
This was also a result of her casual experimentation, as she didn't know how to cultivate. The two hundred acres of land were divided into four sections: fifty acres for wheat, fifty for rice (which clearly didn't need irrigation), fifty for mixed grains, and the final fifty for fruits and vegetables.
The space and the outside world had no time difference, but the planted crops matured in just ten days. Harvesting could also be done mentally, piece by piece, otherwise her body truly couldn't bear it.
All of this made Ye Shenge feel fortunate. She hadn't even had those recurring dreams since, and even felt as though she could stay with her family forever.
But this idyllic existence was shattered one night three months later. Ye Shenge was once again caught in the familiar dream, watching a little girl who looked very much like her weakly reach out to her, only to be jolted back to reality by a sudden thunderclap.
Ye Shenge walked to the balcony, looking out at the purple lightning in the sky, a sense of unease settling in her heart. The dream had returned.
Ye Mu'en rushed into his sister's room immediately, fearing she might be startled by the thunder. Their parents arrived half a minute later.
Just as Ye Mu'en reached out to embrace his sister, a bolt of purple lightning broke through the window and struck towards them. Ye Shenge instinctively used her arm to shield herself, followed by a familiar, agonizing pain in her chest that stole her breath, and then she lost consciousness.
Recalling this, Ye Shenge’s tears flowed again. She was deeply worried about her elder brother, unsure if that bolt of lightning had injured him. She had clearly felt her brother touch her at the time. Now, she could only hope that her brother would remain safe by their parents' side, as her parents would not be able to bear the grief otherwise.
Ye Shenge sighed, stepping out of the bathtub and looking at the identical face staring back at her from the mirror. She wiped her face forcefully. Taking a deep breath, since she had now become the Ye Shenge of this world, she had to live well in this second chance at life, otherwise her parents and brother would be heartbroken.
A rumbling sound from her stomach suddenly broke through her melancholy. No amount of sadness could overshadow the immediate need for sustenance and recovery. She took a bowl of lean meat porridge and a boiled egg, eating them slowly.
As she ate, she thought about the Ye family. She had seen the original host's appearance in the mirror earlier; she was essentially a thinner version of herself. Her looks were exceptionally beautiful and outstanding. It was impossible to find even a trace of resemblance to the other three members of the Ye family. Could they have given birth to someone as beautiful as her? There must be something worth investigating here.
Truthfully, Ye Shenge hoped the original host's grandmother was not involved, having raised the original host for over a decade. If her grandmother was innocent, Ye Shenge would definitely repay her kindness on behalf of the original host. However, if there was indeed something suspicious, she wouldn't be a pushover.
Unbeknownst to Ye Shenge, at this very moment, in the same timeline, a man completely wrapped in bandages opened his eyes. His sharp gaze swept around the room. When he realized the people he was concerned about were not there, he sat up despite his injuries.
