Judging purely by soul power, it was already difficult to evaluate Bai Xiuxiu’s strength at this point. Lan Xuanyu could only faintly sense that her power was now likely close to the peak of a Soul Douluo. This was the result of her complete fusion with the Demon Queen.
For Bai Xiuxiu, this breakthrough was undoubtedly a leap forward, a testament to the immense effect of Dragon Force. It also further solidified Lan Xuanyu’s determination.
“Xuanyu, there’s something I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time. I kept hesitating, unsure if I should say it. But senior Demon Queen was right—I shouldn’t always dwell in past sorrows. I should step out of them.” Bai Xiuxiu buried her head in his chest, her voice choked with emotion.
“As long as you want to talk, I’ll always be here to listen. And if you don’t want to, I’ll never force you.” Lan Xuanyu gently stroked her long hair, holding her close, his heart filled with a warm and tender sense of completeness.
“I want to say it. Actually… I’m not human.” Bai Xiuxiu whispered.
Lan Xuanyu froze slightly. “Not human?”
“Mm. I was originally a hundred-thousand-year soul beast who cultivated into human form. I used to be a Demon Soul Great White Shark. After reaching a hundred thousand years of cultivation, I transformed into human form to begin anew.” Bai Xiuxiu’s voice was low.
Lan Xuanyu stared at her in shock. Though he had always known Bai Xiuxiu was different from ordinary soul masters, he had never guessed she was actually a soul beast.
“You… you won’t dislike me, will you? Even though I was a soul beast, after I cultivated to seven-ring, I officially shed my beast form and became human. That’s why I only tell you now.” Bai Xiuxiu lifted her head, panic flashing in her eyes.Even she didn’t know when it had started—but she had already become unable to leave this man before her.
Lan Xuanyu chuckled softly. “Silly girl, what are you even thinking? Teacher Nana isn’t human either. And she’s my mother. Which means… I’m not really a pure human myself. What’s there to worry about?”
Bai Xiuxiu gazed into his eyes, her body gradually relaxing. She lightly punched his shoulder. “Hmph, I’ll admit you’ve got strong survival instincts.”
Lan Xuanyu hugged her tighter. “Of course I do. In my heart, you’re the most important person of all. How could I ever let you worry? I wouldn’t even dare tease you too much.”
After a long while, Bai Xiuxiu finally spoke again in a soft voice: “I was a Demon Soul Great White Shark. I took on human form… to repay a debt of gratitude.”
“Repay a debt?” Lan Xuanyu asked in surprise. “What kind of debt?”
Bai Xiuxiu began slowly:
“I originally lived in the icy seas of the Extreme North, free and happy. I was a princess of the Demon Soul Great White Shark clan. In the Extreme North, we were powerful, with only the Evil Demon Orca clan able to rival us. They were our mortal enemies, equal in strength.
“One day, I met a man. He told me he was undergoing a trial and wanted to challenge the Evil Demon Orcas. So, I guided him, leading him to them. He was incredibly strong—defeating the orcas with his strength alone. They were our eternal nemesis! Without them, my people could live and thrive in peace.
“I thought that day would be the luckiest of my life. But who could have known it would also be my most painful? When I returned to my clan, I found all my kin slaughtered. My parents, dead. Our entire race—wiped out, leaving only me behind.”
Lan Xuanyu’s eyes widened. “The killer was that man?”
“No. It was the Deep Sea Demon Whale King, a million-year soul beast—the most terrifying existence in the ocean. But the legends said it had died long ago. Yet somehow, an even stronger one appeared. It destroyed my clan, killed my parents. In that moment, my world turned utterly cold. That was when I truly understood the pain of losing one’s home.
“Later, I saw that man again—fighting the Deep Sea Demon Whale King, which had taken human form. In the end, that man who had helped us destroy the orcas… killed the Demon Whale King too, avenging my parents.
“But for some reason, something monumental must have happened then. Heaven and earth themselves seemed to change. I lost consciousness. When I woke, everything was over. It seemed a war had taken place, but I didn’t know how it ended. Slowly, memories of my parents’ deaths and my clan’s annihilation came back, crushing me with grief, and I fell into another long slumber.
“When I finally awoke again, countless years had passed. Alone, I wandered the icy seas, lost and broken. The pain was unbearable. So, I secluded myself in cultivation, determined to grow strong. My parents had told me: if I could reach a hundred thousand years, I could take on human form. I wanted to be human—because they seemed so powerful. And I wanted to find the man who had slain the Demon Whale King, to repay him.
“Eventually, after long, long years, I did it. I reached a hundred thousand years and transformed. But during that metamorphosis, perhaps because of the weight of old memories, I lost much of myself. I was taken in as an orphan and later somehow ended up on Heaven Dou Star. Everything after that… you already know.”
Lan Xuanyu looked down at her, shocked. No wonder she often experienced emotional turmoil, especially when they first met—her past was filled with such sorrow.
“Then… did you ever find your benefactor? After all these years of cultivation, he must have already…”
“No. He’s still alive. And I found him.” Bai Xiuxiu whispered.
Lan Xuanyu’s body trembled. “You found him? Where is he?”
Bai Xiuxiu pushed him away slightly, a faint laugh escaping her lips. “Maybe because of that debt, the heavens gave me a chance to repay it in another way. I can’t repay him directly, but I can repay his son. And I’m more than willing. Foolish Xuanyu, think—when was the last time the Deep Sea Demon Whale King appeared? Why are you being so dense?”
Realization struck Lan Xuanyu like lightning. He blurted out in shock: “You mean… your benefactor was Uncle Le?”
Yes! History recorded that ten thousand years ago, Tang Wulin, the Golden Dragon Moon Song, had led humanity against the Holy Spirit Cult and the Abyss. And wasn’t the Holy Spirit Cult’s master none other than the incarnation of the Deep Sea Demon Whale King? The very foe Bai Xiuxiu had spoken of.
Lan Xuanyu stared at her blankly. This meant… Xiuxiu had lived through that ancient war, though not directly as a participant.
Bai Xiuxiu smiled faintly. “Senior Demon Queen was right—I truly should be satisfied. For me, everything now is already perfect. Being with you makes me so happy. I love you. And the fact that you’re my benefactor’s son only makes me happier. This isn’t like those novels, where the heroine always falls for the son of her enemy. My story is different. Xuanyu, I’m really happy, do you know that?”
Lan Xuanyu coughed softly, wiping away the tears that had slipped down her cheek without her noticing. “If you’re happy, don’t cry. Come—let your benefactor’s son hold you again. Consider it part of repaying your debt.”
