Chapter 1072: Huang Yuanlang’s Intentions
TL: GoldenLung
While Bai Xiuxiu was still dazed, Lan Xuanyu had already pulled her into his arms.
At once, Bai Xiuxiu’s face flushed crimson. She couldn’t help but stomp on his foot.
“You’re taking advantage of me while I’m off guard!”
Lan Xuanyu winced from the pain but laughed.
“Doesn’t this count as repaying kindness with ingratitude?”
“Hmph!”
“Don’t be angry, don’t be angry. You’ll get your chance to take revenge soon enough,” Lan Xuanyu said helplessly.
“Take revenge?” Bai Xiuxiu blinked at him in confusion.
Lan Xuanyu gave a bitter smile.“Remember that day? I agree with your idea. For the sake of Dragon Force, I will bear with it.”
Hearing this, Bai Xiuxiu’s eyes immediately lit up. She broke into a smile.
“Perfect! I knew that was the best way. I’ll call Sister Yuge over, and we’ll help you together. Heeheehee.”
Lan Xuanyu let out a long sigh.
“All right, all right. Let’s do it.”

After finishing official business, Huang Daoqi was just about to return to his residence when a knock sounded at the door.
“Come in,” Huang Daoqi said.
The door opened, and Huang Yuanlang stepped inside. Seeing his son, Huang Daoqi couldn’t help but show a faint smile. Though this son of his lacked outstanding talent, he had never hidden his appreciation for his eldest.
Compared with his other children, Huang Yuanlang was the one most like him. As for talent—was that really the boy’s fault? His own gift wasn’t remarkable either.
“What is it, Yuanlang? Judging by your expression, you seem to be in good spirits.”
Indeed, Huang Yuanlang was in a fine mood. With a smile on his face, he strode in.
“Your judgment was right—Xiuxiu’s talent is truly remarkable. I just got a message from her. She said she’s made a breakthrough, a huge improvement, and she’s already finished digesting all the Dragon Force she absorbed before. She wants to see you, though she’s afraid of disturbing you.”
“A breakthrough? This quickly? Then I must see for myself,” Huang Daoqi said in surprise.
Yuanlang hesitated, then continued,
“Father, to be honest, I really like her. If she comes to like me too, could I be with her? It might mean one less Dragon Knight for us, but I’ve thought it over carefully—this would be the safer path. After all, every Dragon Knight has a family behind them. Even if Xiuxiu chose someone else, it doesn’t mean that Dragon Knight would fully support us. But if she marries me, then she will belong completely to our family. So I want to ask you to allow me the right to pursue her.”
Huang Daoqi studied his son for a long moment.
“I don’t oppose it. If you can win her over through proper means, if she truly comes to love you, that would be a good thing. But during the process, you mustn’t use any methods that would make her resent you. Otherwise…”
“Rest assured, Father,” Yuanlang said without hesitation. “I can do it. Your son may not be talented in cultivation, but among the Higher Dragon clan, my looks and character are widely praised. If it weren’t for your reluctance, even the three great families of Celestial Dragon City would be eager to form marital ties with me.”
“Those families just want to swallow us up,” Huang Daoqi said gruffly. “Enough of that—go bring Xiuxiu here. Let’s see just how far she’s advanced.”
“Yes, I’ll go myself.” Yuanlang, thrilled that his father hadn’t opposed his pursuit of Bai Xiuxiu, turned and left quickly.
Huang Daoqi narrowed his eyes slightly, muttering to himself,
“Xiuxiu, what kind of surprise will you bring me? Dragon Knights are the very foundation of a family…”
He no longer felt like returning to his quarters right away. A shipment of fine goods recently purchased from other planets was waiting for his inspection, but none of that mattered compared to a Dragon Knight.
It wasn’t long before dragon roars echoed outside.
Walking to the window, Huang Daoqi looked up to see two massive figures flying toward the City Lord’s Mansion.
The first was a familiar form—a golden dragon with a horse-like body, eight legs, and a pair of enormous golden wings unfurled behind it. Its body shimmered with dazzling golden scales.
It was none other than Huang Yuanlang’s true form.
Huang Daoqi’s rise to become one of the Sixteen City Lords had much to do with the strength of their bloodline.
The purest Celestial Dragons, known as **Golden Celestial Dragons**, specialized in earth-element abilities. As Yuanlang often said, in terms of appearance alone—leaving strength aside—their family was second to none.
Yuanlang’s true body stretched more than ten meters long, golden radiance streaming from it. Golden halos rippled beneath his eight legs, and wherever he passed, the sky lit up in dazzling brilliance.
But behind him, the sky suddenly darkened. A second figure followed.
This dragon’s body was slender, nearly thirty meters long, its scales a deep blue, its wings spanning more than twenty meters. Even though it followed behind Yuanlang, its aura utterly eclipsed his Golden Dragon form. It didn’t even release its pressure, yet its presence radiated overwhelming might.
This was Bai Xiuxiu, having revealed her martial soul’s true body.
Seeing this, Huang Daoqi’s eyes gleamed. Xiuxiu’s talent was beyond his imagination. She had only absorbed Dragon Force once, yet the transformation was already so profound.
His son’s appearance was impressive, yes—but compared with Xiuxiu, he looked like little more than a showy but empty decoration. His hopes of Yuanlang winning this prodigy were dwindling.
The two great forms descended toward the City Lord’s Mansion. Flight was undoubtedly the fastest way to travel. Yuanlang had chosen to fly, of course, to show off his true body before Xiuxiu. After all, this was the Golden Celestial Dragon—the most noble among dragonkind, its body gleaming like pure gold.
The two figures folded their wings and landed in the courtyard. They couldn’t fly directly into the mansion—that was a privilege reserved for the City Lord, just as only Bai Xiuxiu herself could fly straight into her own residence.
The pair transformed back into human form and walked toward the City Lord’s Mansion together. Watching them, Huang Daoqi noticed that while Yuanlang kept chatting away, it was obvious Xiuxiu wasn’t the one starting the conversation.
He shook his head slightly, narrowed his eyes, and stepped outside.
This was the second time Bai Xiuxiu had seen Huang Daoqi in the mansion hall. This time, she had come on her own, flying in without attendants.
“Congratulations, Xiuxiu,” Daoqi said with a hearty laugh, nodding to her.
“Greetings, Father,” Bai Xiuxiu said sweetly, bowing with respect.
Daoqi waved it off.
“We’re family, no need for so much formality. How has your cultivation been these past few days?”
“The residence you gave me is simply wonderful,” Bai Xiuxiu replied. “The life energy there is abundant. I felt like I naturally hit a bottleneck and then broke through without even realizing it. I don’t know exactly what level I’m at now, but the feeling is amazing. I really like the sense of growing stronger—and even my body has grown larger.”
Daoqi nodded.
“Our body size corresponds to the strength of our power. This means you’ve advanced again. Soon, I can open the Dragon Force Hall for you, so you can absorb Dragon Force once more. But before that, I have a suggestion for you.”
“Please speak,” Bai Xiuxiu said respectfully.
