Chapter 632: Chapter 632: Have You Fallen in Love with Tang Li?
Even if his dreams weren’t detailed, that kind of marital respect likened to “ice” was too real for Han Jifeng to ignore.
Lai Shengxia’s grip on Han Jifeng’s hospital gown loosened as she let go: “It’s getting late, you should rest early, and I should head home too.”
As her voice fell, there was no plea for her to stay.
Lai Shengxia walked towards the door, nearly leaving the ward, when she suddenly stopped and turned to look at Han Jifeng: “This afternoon, Ah Li brought the Young Master of Longxing Group to our house.”
Han Jifeng cast his gaze over at the mention.
“You should know the Fu Family; your eldest sister is married to the chairman of Longxing.”
Speaking thus, Lai Shengxia seemed to realize her bluntness and swiftly changed the topic: “I didn’t mean anything by it, but no matter what, we’re still classmates. I hope you can find happiness in the future. Ah Li is young; once you’re together, even if you’re busy with work, you should spend more time with her.”
How could Han Jifeng not understand the implication of her words?
—— Tang Li was at an age where playing around was tempting, easily getting ambiguous with the opposite sex. If something did happen with the Young Master of Longxing, it wouldn’t be surprising.
Lai Shengxia wasn’t unaware.
From beginning to end, Han Jifeng didn’t utter a single word.
This made it impossible for her to gauge what was going through Han Jifeng’s mind.
“Then you rest. I will come to see you again tomorrow.” Lai Shengxia adhered to the principle of stopping at the right moment, saying no more; she gripped her handbag at the hem of her dress, ready to leave.
As she reached for the door to the ward, Han Jifeng’s voice came through: “I’m being discharged tomorrow morning, no need to come again.”
Lai Shengxia’s hand on the doorknob did not turn, her gaze landed on Han Jifeng, flickering slightly with an indecisive tenderness, then she said: “Then I’ll come to pick you up in the morning. In your current state, it’s not good for you to drive.”
“No need.”
Han Jifeng sat down at the bedside.
He turned his back to the door and took out a pack of cigarettes from the bedside table’s drawer.
The window of the single-person ward was half-open.
Lai Shengxia walked back, snatching the lighter from his hand: “Smoking is not allowed in the hospital.”
Some would say her action was willful; but it was tinged with a different kind of softness.
“The doctor said you have a bleeding stomach, smoking is bad for you.” Lai Shengxia paused slightly, after a long while, she spoke softly: “You never used to smoke like this before.”
Back in college, although Han Jifeng did smoke, he wasn’t a heavy smoker; a pack in his drawer could last two months. Because she disliked the smell of smoke, she complained and he, for her sake, threw all his cigarettes away in the dorm.
Lai Shengxia suddenly asked: “…did you start smoking again after we broke up?”
“No.”
Even though Han Jifeng denied it categorically, Lai Shengxia continued: “Whether it is or not, it makes no difference to me now.”
This sentence draped a thin veil over their relationship.
Adding a flavor of unfinished longing and muted sentiment.
Han Jifeng, looked as if he noticed nothing; the pack of cigarettes went back into the drawer, he didn’t stay silent anymore, clarifying directly: “We were together for three years in college, and after parting till now, I have never considered reconciliation.”
Upon hearing this, Lai Shengxia clenched the strap of her bag.
“I’ve said everything I had to before, and there’s that call from Tang Li to you… since you’ve heard it… indeed, that’s what is on my mind.”
Lai Shengxia felt like her pride was being trampled upon severely: “Have you fallen in love with Tang Li?”
Han Jifeng didn’t answer immediately.
Minutes later, Lai Shengxia heard him say: “Only when I’m with her, I can confirm that I’m still alive.”
…and not sinking into a dream as deep as an abyss.
