Chapter 633: Chapter 633: I Have a Job for You, Interested?
In that instant, Sheng Xia suddenly felt an urge to laugh.
What does it mean to only feel alive when you’re with Tang Li?
Her heart couldn’t accept it, and she couldn’t help but ask, “When did it start? From when did you two begin?”
Before Han Jifeng could answer, Sheng Xia said to herself, “Was it when you came to my house to tutor Yuanyuan for the college entrance exam?”
She laughed lightly, “Yuanyuan told me that while you were tutoring her in the study, Tang Li went out of her way to create accidental encounters with you. I took it as a joke. You are the one I love, and I should trust you completely, but look at the surprise you’ve given me.”
“The night of the state banquet, I went out to persuade you to marry her, mistaking your indifference for reluctance, but in truth, you were more than willing to marry her than anyone else.”
Sheng Xia’s smile turned bitter, “From beginning to end, I was the only fool, which is why Tang Li could be so fearless in front of me.
The constant provocations, the hostility, were all because she had emotional backing.
Isn’t it ironic?
That backer turned out to be the man I’ve yearned for with all my heart.”
Finally, Han Jifeng joined in, “Even without Tang Li, things could never be the same between us.”
Hearing this, Sheng Xia’s gaze fixed on his cold, handsome features.
“You have Qin Yansheng by your side. Even if it wasn’t Qin Yansheng, there would be other suitors,” Han Jifeng paused before continuing, “The Han Family is no longer what it used to be; from a family background perspective, I don’t deserve you. That’s why, when you initiated the breakup, I saw it as something forgivable.”
“…You still resent me for leaving you back then.”
“I wouldn’t call it resentment.”
Han Jifeng looked up, meeting Sheng Xia’s beautiful eyes, “It’s just that I’ve come to understand a lot of things. If I hadn’t gotten hold of Xia Zhengguo’s bribery evidence, I would still just be a secretary at the Ministry of Justice right now, and you wouldn’t be here pouring out your feelings to me in the middle of the night.”
Sheng Xia felt a pang in her heart.
Han Jifeng then said, “Since we’ve separated and gone our separate ways, forcing things back together would only show a facade of completeness when in reality it’s riddled with countless holes.”
His words ultimately left her some breathing room.
But—
For the twenty-something years that Sheng Xia had prided herself on her intelligence, she had never endured such an embarrassment, as if someone had forcefully ripped off a mask glued to her face.
That mask had long since fused with her skin.
Once torn apart, it left her flustered and her face a bloody mess.
She spoke with self-deprecating irony, “So in your eyes, I’m such a vain and pretentious woman.”
“…” Han Jifeng remained noncommittal.
Sheng Xia realized that her tactic of “retreating in order to advance” was ineffective and understood that if the conversation continued, it would only lead to a complete falling out, leaving no room for maneuver.
So, she put an end to the dialogue, “You should rest. I will leave now.”
Before her words finished, she had already left.
Standing in the elevator, Sheng Xia watched the changing floor numbers, contemplating what Han Jifeng had said; she couldn’t remain indifferent.
After leaving the hospital building and getting into the car, she took out her cellphone and made a call.
Soon, a man’s voice came through the earpiece.
Sheng Xia spoke, “I have a business proposition for you, are you interested?”
“In S country?” The man’s voice bore a foreign accent.
“There’s a woman. I’ll give you ten million; no matter what method you use, gain her trust and take her with you to Las Vegas.”
The man understood her intention immediately, “Selling that far away, it’ll be inconvenient to collect your money later on.”
