Chapter 122: A mystery

Chapter 122: A mystery

~AMBROSE’S POV~

The battle we just had together was intense. She really made me work for it. He motions were fluid and precise. I had to really use my speed and my foresight to keep up with her. She is strong and powerful.

When she broke my nose with her forehead, and it made me fall in love all over again, my cock got so hard I had to distract her with my charisma and sarcasm. The last thing I wanted was for her to see it, I’d never live it down.

She was so incredible, the way she moved, what moves she made. She was thorough and deliberate with each twist and kick.

Her strength rivaled that of an alpha’s. Her defenses and senses were extra sharp this time. Sharper than the first time I saw her fight.

The way she dipped and dogged and jabbed, it was like fighting a boss in the last level of a video game. She was ruthless. Goddess save the person who really pisses her off next. They’re completely fucked. How is she getting more powerful everyday?

"I have a meeting with the alpha twins later. Try and stay away from them, especially Alpha Andres, while you’re with Em or Ariel. Can you do that?" I tried to insist. But it was unlikely she would listen. Odette loved to do the opposite of what I tell her 90% of the time.

"It’s not like I want to be anywhere near them. And also, you make sure to keep them out of my way, don’t just shift all the responsibility on to me." She sounded like she was ready to bite my head off.

Did she think I’d let his shit slide?

"If you think I don’t plan to personally warn him, you’d be mistaken." I growled low.

"Warn? Or threaten?" She asked with a scowl on her face.

"Both." I heard the coldness in my own voice/ But I didn’t like the idea of them even being close to her. If Morrison hadn’t been there, I’d have smashed the wolf’s face into his food, breaking a few teeth along the way. Politics are stupid, but necessary when the lives of thousands live in your hands.

"Good because if you don’t I will. Don’t want a visiting alpha to walk away with a broken nose, do you?" She was trying to lighten things up. But the anger had already settled in.

"If he deserves, I don’t care. He can walk out without a tongue and if he deserved it, well that’s that. It’s really simple." I’d sooner kill him then let him look at her like she’s prized meat.

"True. They don’t call you ruthless for nothing, do they?" She made a valid point. And I realized maybe they thought I went soft. Because I was happier, I would be more merciful?

"No, that they don’t. Maybe it’s time I remind them of why they call me ruthless, and how a 13 year old can gain the title of Alpha King and hold it." I was barely holding on, but she could hear it. The threat that lingered behind my words. The seriousness about my intentions.

"What are you thinking about doing?" Her voice shook, only slightly, but I heard it.

She needed to know I’m not soft, I need everyone to remember I am the Alpha King and I’m to be feared and respected.

"I am going to make an example out of him." I held firm, my anger and annoyance simmering just below the surface.

Wait.

Onyx? You’ve been awfully quiet since dinner.

Because if I opened my mouth, I’d have taken over and ripped that slimy little mutt apart, piece by piece. Send him back to his father with a note that says "teach your sons respect."

I can’t believe he’d ever say something like that.

That’s pretty intense. Calm down Kujo.

Yeah, well, I’m pretty protective over our mate

, unlike some people.

Ouch. That’s pretty direct man, why don’t you just @me next time, sheesh.

You’re the only person I talk to. So, I basically did.

Not doing this right now.

And now you know why I’m gone.

Onyx then left me in silence. Because he can’t be civil. The animal didn’t understand politics; he didn’t get how quickly shit can flip. What it could cost us. It’s hard to lead a kingdom and protect the one you love when an old jealous, power hungry bastard spins and controls the narrative. If it got out before I could create the narrative. It would be nearly impossible to quill.

Me handling things in private was for the better. I had too. It was the only way. I know Morrison is already skeptical Isabella is ready to try and eat her alive, which is another problem on their own. My wolf scent has been covering her odd scent that smells like neither vampire or mortal.

It’s been changing recently, almost like ice has been added to the smell. I noticed it when we were fighting. This crispness to it.

She was a mystery; one I want to spend the rest of my life figuring out.

"Just don’t go overboard, okay? They aren’t the enemy; he’s just an idiot reaching far outside his league." She turned and started walking away.

I grabbed her wrist ad spun her back around, making her face me. I moved a strand from her face to behind her ear. Her cheeks pinkened and warmed at my light gesture.

"Behave for me? Stay out of trouble?"

Her eyes sparkled like she was as entranced by me as I was her. She blinked slowly. Her long lashes batted gently.

"Maybe." She whispered low, her breath was staggering, just slightly. She tried to mask how effected she was by this small gesture of intimacy.

But failed, her body betrayed her. Giving her away.

I bent down and whispered in her ear, "I’ll get you back for my nose later tonight. When we’re alone."

She trembled under my light touch. And I couldn’t help but smirk. I turned and walked away leaving her wanting more. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. She was special. She had me hooked.
