Chapter 123: The Twins
~AMBROSE’S POV~
Watching Odette walk away from me made something in my heartache. She was so devastatingly beautiful.
She lifted her hands behind her head and gently tugged on the band, pulling the ponytail down, her moonlight white hair drifted and flowed effortlessly in the breeze, her hair capturing the sun’s rays on every wave and flick of the glittering strands.
She walked like art, just leaving me standing in wonder as her figure grew smaller and smaller.
I shook my head and tousled the top.
My nose still had a slight throb, resetting it before it healed wrong. Bruising on my ribs already gone.
Now to meet up with Damon and prepare for the meeting with the twin alphas.
"Beta Damon, do you have the information they asked for when they arrived last night?"
"Yes, alpha. I’ve also arranged for any clean up that may be needed for after the meeting." Leave it up to Damon to prepare for the possibility of damage control. I chuckled inwardly.
"And this, Damon, is why you are the Beta, always prepared for the unknown and the inevitable." I was proud.
"I live and breathe for my pack and my alpha. Of course, I’m ready to clean up any mess my alpha needed to make." Damon was being sarcastic, but his joke was wrapped in professionalism.
"Meet me in my office. Not my personal one in the room, but the official one." I directed Damon.
"Yes, Alpha." He answered before I closed the chat.
I walked back to the room to shower and change. When I arrived in my office, it was quiet and empty. The kind of quiet that wasn’t peaceful, but the calm before the storm. A servant had left 4 glasses of water and a black coffee for me on the table that sat between the four seats.
My official office was pretty basic. Walls that were colored a light grey with black trimming. My chairs had soft, black cushions. My desk was large, wooden, and painted black. The room was simple but screamed power and demanded obedience from the very air inside the room.
To anyone else this room would seem oppressive and heavy. But to me, it amplified the feeling of strength and dominance.
I sat in my large black office chair, if a throne could be made into an office chair, it would be this chair.
Sipping my black coffee I waited.
Knocking at the door forced me to look up from my coffee.
"Come in Damon."
Damon came in with his usual smile and rays of sunshine.
"How do you do it, Damon?" I asked.
He looked at me puzzled "Do what, Alpha?"
"You smile and bring such, I don’t know light in a room, but your ability is knowing everyone’s lies and yet never being able to lie yourself? I’m miserable knowing about it."
"Because some people I’m around never lie. Not truly. And that gives me hope, it’s a personal and solid reassurance that good people exist. And to me that’s a reason to be happy." He sounded so casual like trusting people was easy. But I guess if you can never truly be lied too, it might be easier.
"Who doesn’t lie? Everyone lies." I argued.
"True, everyone lies, but some people only lie about feelings they haven’t realized. Which I barely count." He paused and then smiled "Princess Odette is someone who doesn’t lie to people and only lies to herself."
"Emalea is weird, she breathes and exhales honesty." For a moment I swear I saw a hint of admiration and maybe even affection?
Hmmm...
"Emalea? I didn’t know you knew her well enough to know her level of honesty." I held a cold questioning expression, but inside I was grinning.
Someone has a crush.
I watched his face go through three emotions in a blink, I couldn’t help but chuckled to myself, doing my best to maintain my own indifferent expression.
"Oh, I don’t... I... I just... I’ve had a few conversations in and passing and you know I’m the ears of this palace, and any conversation I’ve ever heard about any subject she has just been unapologetically honest. And I think it’s cool." Damon tried so hard to sound professional.
I let my smile show and opened the channel "Beta Damon, are you crushing on an Omega servant?"
His expression and the color drained from his face.
Gottem.
Knocking at the door interrupted us.
"You’re secret is safe with me." I laughed.
"Alpha King Ambrose, Alpha Anderson and Alpha Andres are here to meet with you, as requested." Hector said through the door.
"Enter." My words short, my tone superior.
The door opened and the twin alphas walked in. Alpha Anderson bows with respect but Alpha Andres’ bow was gift wrapped in arrogance.
"Take a seat." I only acknowledge Alpha Anderson, ignoring Alpha Andres.
When both alphas went to sit, Damon stepped forward "Alpha Andres, you were not asked to sit, only Alpha Anderson. Please remain standing until your Alpha King permits otherwise."
"Excuse me, do you think your..." Alpha Andres was quickly silenced once I released my aura, it was choking and forced him to his knees. All three of them on their knees.
"You, Alpha Andres, have a status lower than my beta’s and you are far less valuable and useful to my pack and all shifters to EVER raise your voice of speak to my beta like that. Remember your place, pup." I growled. My every word dripped with authority and commanded obedience.
Alpha Andres posture went rigid. He wore his anger as a cape protecting his embarrassment and humiliation.
I let up on my aura so Damon could stand and Alpha Anderson, looked to be annoyed and ashamed.
Maybe he doesn’t even like his brother.
"If I may be bold, I apologize, my brother is a bet untamed and a little disgusting. But because my parents weren’t sure which one of us came out first since we’ve been mixed up a lot, we sadly share the title. But that is no excuse for his disgusting behavior or how it reflects on me and my pack." He spoke with all the respect and understanding expected of an alpha and subject of the king.
"Alpha Anderson, we will be having the conversation. If your brother speaks, I will have Beta Damon whip him."
