Chapter 346: Chapter 344: Helping to Test Medicine
"Whatever he offers, I’ll double it."
Si Yuhuan glanced at Jian Xi and, with a wave of his hand, displayed the allure of money.
Jian Xi was somewhat speechless. So that was it; it seemed she had overthought things.
Shang Fu couldn’t help but purse his lips. "Then we’re much obliged to Director Si. We wouldn’t dare decline."
"I really didn’t see that coming. The famous Z Group also likes to jack up prices like this."
Shang Fu said candidly, "Man dies for wealth as birds die for food. No organization is an exception, especially those of us who constantly lick blood off the edge of a knife. If the money is right, we’d even give our lives."
Jian Xi’s lips twitched. "Makes sense. Save my son, and I’ll add another five million for each of you."
Shang Fu’s eyes bulged like brass bells.
"We will go through fire and water and shirk no responsibility!"
After they left, Si Yuhuan looked at her and laughed. "Starting to learn how to use money to make people risk their lives for you?"
"Following Director Si, I have to learn some of your finer points."
Si Yuhuan just smiled without a word. This woman was getting sharper-tongued by the day.
Si Yuhuan’s brother had administered the poison stealthily. Now, Si Junyan was in the hospital, writhing in agony. He repeatedly requested to see the Sect Leader, hoping they would find a better doctor for him, but his pleas vanished like stones cast into the ocean, leaving not a ripple.
He remained unconscious from the pain for three days.
Then, Xinxin arrived.
"Hello, Second Young Master. Long time no see. How have you been?"
As Xinxin entered, she removed her glasses. Her bewitching eyes glinted with a cruel smile as she scanned Si Junyan from head to toe, her gaze lingering on his severed arm. She clicked her tongue. "What a pity. Such a handsome man, now a cripple."
"Xinxin! You’re courting death!" Si Junyan gritted his teeth. The sight of her made him want to pounce and tear her apart.
But the pain was so intense he couldn’t move; his entire body was numb!
Xinxin arched an eyebrow and slowly settled into a chair brought by one of her subordinates. She crossed her legs, propping her chin on her hand with a proud, wicked air. Her entire demeanor radiated a seductive charm. "You’re hanging on by a thread, so why get so worked up? Si Junyan, has anyone ever told you? You look utterly ridiculous right now."
"You did this on purpose! You deliberately had my arm removed to vent your anger, to get revenge on me!"
"You guessed right! So what?" Xinxin laughed wildly. "You nearly got me killed by Si Yuhuan. Why shouldn’t I get my revenge? Si Junyan, don’t be such a hypocrite. This was just a small punishment to teach you a lesson. Who knew you’d be so useless that your wound would get infected and you’d nearly die?"
At this, boundless terror and panic flared in Si Junyan’s eyes.
"What are you planning? To discard me now that I’m no longer useful? Don’t forget, without me, that child won’t survive!"
"And without that child, you couldn’t possibly use him to threaten Jian Xi or Si Yuhuan!"
"Hmm, you have a point," Xinxin conceded. "But saving you would require a lot of money and connections. We at Secret Gate never engage in unprofitable ventures... unless..."
Si Junyan immediately cried out, "I can give you however much money you want! Just save me! I really can’t take this pain anymore, Xinxin! I was wrong before! I’ll never dare to do it again! Please, spare me, let me live! Find me the best doctors, I beg you!"
He scrambled up, devoid of dignity, and knelt on the ground, kowtowing to her repeatedly.
Xinxin looked down at him from her superior position, greatly pleased. "Alright. Since you’re so sincere, I’ll give you a way out."
"Thank you, thank you! I’ll get the money right now."
With that, like a dog, he called his trusted subordinates.
Soon, three suitcases filled with ten million in cash were brought in.
"Are you satisfied now? Quickly, find me a doctor!"
Si Junyan was drenched in sweat from the pain, looking utterly disheveled. He was hunched on the bed, shivering uncontrollably.
Xinxin picked up a stack of cash and leisurely began to count it. Her slow movements irked Si Junyan.
"I’ve already given you what you wanted! What are you dawdling for?!" His young master’s temper flared, and he roared.
SMACK!
A suitcase of cash was kicked over, scattering its contents.
Bright red bills littered the floor.
A nurse outside heard the commotion and pushed the door open. Seeing the scene, she quickly closed the door and fled.
Xinxin bent down to look at Si Junyan, her finger jabbing harshly at his forehead. "In Secret Gate, besides Foster Father, no one dares to speak to me like that. What do you think you are? You’re nothing but a stray dog we picked up, and you dare to bark at me?"
"Miss! My lady! You’re my savior! It hurts so much, please save me! From now on, I’ll be your dog, okay?"
"Heh, that’s more like it," Xinxin sneered. "Finally showing some awareness of what it means to be a dog."
Xinxin pointed to the money on the floor. "Pick it up. Stack it neatly for me. If I’m in a good mood, I’ll have the doctor come over right now."
"Okay, okay! I’ll stack it neatly for you right away!"
Si Junyan scrambled to pick up the money. The once arrogant Second Young Master was now like an animal, willing to do anything to survive. The men from Secret Gate around them roared with laughter.
"Alright, that’s good enough. Nicely done."
Seeing the suitcase of money neatly stacked, Xinxin was in a good mood and called for the doctor.
"There you go," she said. "The treatment for our Second Young Master was prepared in advance."
She commanded the doctor, "Treat him well. Ensure Second Young Master Si’s life is saved, and you’ll be well rewarded."
The doctor immediately began to examine Si Junyan.
"He needs some special, very expensive medication. It might be a bit difficult to obtain."
Si Junyan clenched his back teeth. "No matter how expensive! I have plenty of money!"
"Did you hear that?" Xinxin said to the doctor. "Second Young Master Si said he has plenty of money! Just proceed with the treatment."
Xinxin glanced at the key in her hand, raised an eyebrow, and left with a smile. She wouldn’t have wasted so much time here if it weren’t for obtaining this.
Her deputy approached. "Sister Xinxin, rest assured. The key was copied exactly from the original. It’s absolutely foolproof."
"He won’t find out, will he?"
Just half an hour ago, Xinxin had deliberately gotten close to Si Junyan. She had taken a key to a secret room from him, silently handed it to her subordinates to copy, and then returned the original.
"He absolutely won’t discover it!"
"Good."
Xinxin quickly returned to the hotel.
「The Laboratory.」
Jian Sirun, in a white lab coat and protective goggles, was intently focused on the medicine he was developing. He alternated between jotting down notes and adjusting reagents, his expression grave.
Outside, two assistants couldn’t help but mutter to each other.
"Why has the Professor been so focused on researching this type of addictive drug lately?"
"Who knows? He’s the greatest genius in a century! What he’s thinking, what he plans to do next—it’s beyond us. It’s probably for some academic research. We just need to assist diligently. If he wins an award, maybe we’ll get some minor credit. That would be enough to make our ancestors proud!"
"But for this drug, has the Professor found a test subject yet?"
"Ah... uh... He doesn’t seem to have given any instructions about that!"
One assistant stroked his chin, then said slowly and meaningfully, "I suspect there’s some special, mysterious person who will help test the drug!"
