Chapter 808: Fleshy Mech Zombies

Chapter 808: Fleshy Mech Zombies

The traps, even as simple as wooden stakes, still work against the half-flesh half-machine Zombies.

Soon, the snipers who got a kill or two confirmed the name of the Zombies before Diana could even check the notifications from the system.

“They’re called Fleshy Mech Zombies!” They shouted.

“Whoa~ I actually got a first kill! They’re Mid-Tier Zombies!”

One of the snipers on the tower shouted. She was Loreen with a Rare Talent called Enhanced Reflexes.

[ You have eliminated a Fleshy Mech Zombie. ]

[ Congratulations! You are the first to eliminate Fleshy Mech Zombie, a mid-tier zombie! ]

[ Hint: Only the first elimination of each Mid-Tier and High-Tier zombie can provide special rewards! ]

[ You can select one reward: 3 Instant Experience Potion, 500 Zombie Cores, 3 Random Giftpack ]

Loreen thought for just a moment and swiftly selected the 3 instant exp potions.

“Fleshy Mech, huh…” Diana muttered.

As she watched the horde charge through the traps and was about to reach the walls, the other defensive structures were activated.

WHIRRRR! KRAKKA-KRAKKA-KRAKKA!

Automated turrets opened fire from their fortified walls, shredding the first ranks with a storm of energy bullets!

Flame-thrower emplacements had also ignited as belching arcs of fire that turned clusters of zombies into writhing infernos.

“Keep pressure on them!” shouted one of the tower gunners.

From above, snipers took aim through their scopes and pierced through their skulls.

Well, despite having those mysterious engines on their backs, they were still Zombies that would die after their heads exploded.

Just like that, archers also rained down with flaming arrows as they struck their targets.

The battlefield had soon become chaotic…

Yet even after traps, turrets, and flames thinned their numbers, the remaining horde still advanced.

Their unusual engine-backs rustled and growled as though urging them onward.

Soon, they were about to clash against the shelter’s barrier.

Whoom~

A translucent dome of light was empowered as they clashed against the Zombies…

Boom!

The first wave of fleshy mech zombies slammed into it head-on and it didn’t bode well…

BZZZZT!

The barrier sizzled as their claws and bodies pressed against it, but the shield held, holding the abominations at bay. It was even burning their skin!

“Now…” Diana said as she turned to the ones handling the gates…

“Release the Wardens.”

The gate rumbled as it opened, and fifty Warden Units marched out in perfect formation.

Their shields locked together and formed a solid wall of steel…

Behind them, their swords were unsheathed in unison.

Just like that, both sides faced one another, fifty Wardens against three hundred or so fleshy mech zombies.

The clash began the moment all of the Warden Units advanced beyond the barrier.

CLANG! CLANG!

Their tower shields met the charge of the Fleshy Mech Zombies…

Their claws screeched against the reinforced alloy of the shields, but the shrieks of the abominations didn’t do anything against the Warden Units.

They were already immune to sound-based attacks at this point.

But Diana quickly noticed what made these creatures truly different.

The strange, bone-and-flesh “engines” on their backs were like living furnaces.

They continued coughing black smoke into the battlefield.

Every time the engines roared, the zombies seemed to move with sudden bursts of strength…

They’re slamming into shields harder, leaping higher, and clawing ruthlessly…

“Interesting… Those things are powering them. This isn’t just some sort of mutation. It’s as if they’re made to be like that.” Sandra muttered as she saw what was going on.

They just couldn’t imagine how a Zombie Virus would result in a Zombie with engines on its back.

It just didn’t make sense. It means that these Zombies were modified by others, or perhaps, some modified humans had just been infected by the virus instead of the other way around.

At first, snipers and archers still managed to land a few clean shots.

A handful of zombies fell with exploding heads, as their engines sizzled out.

But soon, the battlefield was drowned in choking darkness.

SSSHHHHHHHH!

A wave of black smoke poured out, rolling across the ground like a living fog.

It wasn’t just thick… The dark smoke even clung to the Wardens, wrapping around their armor and blinding their sight.

“Visibility dropping fast!” Loreen shouted, her enhanced reflexes straining as she tried to track movements through the black mist. “I can’t snipe them accurately anymore!”

Inside the fog, the Wardens relied on their sensors for movement to target the Zombies…

Still, their formation faltered as they started getting overwhelmed by the swarm of Fleshy Mech Zombies…

Several Wardens were struck as they were pressured under the raw strength of the monsters.

“Not good…” Diana muttered as she started noticing that the Warden Unit’s accuracy was also starting to drop.

The black smoke wasn’t just for concealment… It also interfered with targeting sensors and aura perception alike. It was getting dangerous.

However, Diana didn’t panic.

She had prepared for this exact kind of nightmare. To be exact, Shane had already warned them before. She then turned to a team carrying some grenades with them.

“Support teams… Deploy the grenades!”

The chosen fifty Survivors pulled from their belts a special device…

Electric Shock Grenade!

[ Electric Shock Grenade ( Exceptional ): A tactical grenade that emits a powerful electric shock upon detonation, stunning zombies and temporarily incapacitating them. Ideal for crowd control and creating escape opportunities. ]

It must be remembered that they were only items bought in the Survivor Store. Still, she knew that they would be very effective here!

Just like that, several canisters were thrown.

FWOOSH!

Fifty grenades were then thrown into the smoke-filled battlefield.

At the same time, the Warden Units released their Sentinel Sphere to avoid being caught by the grenade!

KA-KRZZZZZTTTTTT!!!

The next instant, the battlefield was filled with light. Bolts of electricity rampaged across the black fog, hitting the hundreds of zombies inside!

In just a few moments, the seemingly overwhelming Fleshy Mech Zombies shrieked in unison.

“Now! Push them back!” Diana roared as this order was given not only to the remaining Warden Units but to the rest of the Survivors!
