Chapter 961: Chapter 950: Xu Rongfei’s Persistence!
Following the driver into the Manor, Xu Rongfei kept scrutinizing her surroundings. She had heard about this place before—it was Situ Yuanhua’s private Manor.
But after Situ Yuanhua’s death, this place became abandoned. It had been auctioned off earlier, reportedly bought by an unknown individual along with the Situ Family’s assets.
Entering the main hall, Xu Rongfei spotted numerous men dressed in black tang suits standing on either side, with a middle-aged man with graying hair seated at the far end. His age appeared much older than hers.
“Xu Rongfei, it’s our first meeting. Allow me to introduce myself—my name is Situ Qingfeng, the new owner of this place.”
Situ Qingfeng gestured for the driver who had brought Xu Rongfei to leave. Rising to his feet, he slowly advanced toward Xu Rongfei, whose expression betrayed a hint of panic.
“…You said your name is Situ Qingfeng?”
Xu Rongfei snapped out of her thoughts, her face changing color. Situ Qingfeng, Situ Yuanhua—these two shared the same last name. What connection did this man have with Situ Yuanhua?
Situ Qingfeng nodded, unfazed by Xu Rongfei’s reaction, and continued speaking: “Indeed, my surname is Situ. However, there’s something I want you to understand: there’s no animosity between us. If you cooperate with me, I won’t do anything dangerous to you.”
This was a warning. If Xu Rongfei complied, it would be best for everyone. Once everything was over, he could let her go. But if she played any tricks or refused to cooperate, Situ Qingfeng had ways to deal with her.
Noticing the man’s piercing gaze, Xu Rongfei immediately understood just how dangerous he could be.
“What’s your connection to Situ Yuanhua? And what is your reason for bringing me here?”
Xu Rongfei voiced the two questions that now weighed most heavily on her mind.
Situ Qingfeng appeared unsurprised, as if he’d anticipated her queries. He responded almost instantly: “Situ Yuanhua was my younger brother. The reason I brought you here is that I need you to help me with something!”
So, this man had a close relationship with Situ Yuanhua—he was actually his elder brother!
But why would Situ Yuanhua’s elder brother bring her here in the first place?
Help him—with what exactly?
Although Xu Rongfei knew Situ Yuanhua, it was merely an acquaintanceship—nothing more than brief interactions. Her ties to Situ Yuanhua, or the entire Situ Family for that matter, were minimal. So why had Situ Qingfeng sought her out?
Questions flooded her mind one after another, leaving Xu Rongfei increasingly perplexed. She had no real grasp of his motives, nor any clue about the potential dangers she might face.
“Don’t worry. I know you’re eager to leave the country, but delaying for a few days shouldn’t be an issue. I brought you here simply to ask: regarding my brother’s death, do you know anything hidden beneath the surface?”
Situ Qingfeng chuckled lightly, as though Xu Rongfei’s vigilance amused him. To him, it seemed excessive, given that she was already under his control—a mere defenseless woman. Did she truly think she could conceal anything from him now?
Xu Rongfei felt even more bewildered upon hearing this and instinctively replied, “Situ Yuanhua is dead—what does that have to do with me?”
Situ Yuanhua’s death had indeed been odd. It had stirred quite the commotion in Zhonghai, a story Xu Rongfei had heard before. But this incident had absolutely no connection to her.
Now that Situ Qingfeng was asking whether she knew any hidden truths about it, Xu Rongfei found herself at a total loss.
“Everyone in Zhonghai knows my brother’s death was suspicious. Many people are saying his death has ties to the Xu Family, specifically to Xu Ruolan. Are you genuinely claiming to know nothing?”
Situ Qingfeng’s icy glare sharpened, his eyes cutting into her like a steel blade. It was as though no secret could escape his piercing gaze.
“I said I don’t know anything! You’ve got the wrong person. My family has nothing to do with your brother’s death!”
Xu Rongfei’s expression turned steely. Despite being face-to-face with Situ Qingfeng, she held her ground resolutely.
“Hahaha, whether you admit it or not, I’ve already uncovered the truth. The real killer of my brother couldn’t have been anyone else but Ning Fan, who was staying at your Xu Family manor. Who else could it be?”
Situ Qingfeng suddenly burst out laughing—a sinister sound resembling something born in the depths of Jiuyou.
Xu Rongfei’s face instantly paled upon hearing him state with certainty that Ning Fan was the killer. She couldn’t stop herself from exclaiming, “You’re accusing an innocent man! Ning Fan could never be the murderer!”
“Heh, seems you don’t know Ning Fan as well as you think. Do you truly see him as innocent and harmless? Or are you hoping your little schemes can evade my notice?”
Situ Qingfeng’s gaze turned even more dangerous. His eyes narrowed as he scrutinized her, a cold smile curling at the corners of his lips.
There was no doubt in Situ Qingfeng’s mind that Ning Fan was the killer. He had expended significant effort to uncover this fact. No matter how Xu Rongfei tried to defend him, it wouldn’t change the truth.
“I’m offering you a chance now. If you wish to stay alive—or if you want the entire Xu Family to remain unharmed—then help me lure Ning Fan out!”
Situ Qingfeng had already devised his plan. Xu Rongfei was the optimal choice to bait Ning Fan. As for why he hadn’t targeted Xu Ruolan or Xu Xiaoqing, it was because his men had discovered that both sisters were under the protection of skilled bodyguards, making them much harder to approach.
And so, Situ Qingfeng set his sights on Xu Rongfei—a woman whose relationship with Ning Fan seemed intriguingly complex.
This woman was unguarded. Moreover, after his investigation into Ning Fan, Situ Qingfeng was confident that Ning Fan would absolutely take the bait!
“Impossible!”
Xu Rongfei’s face darkened. The idea of her helping to lure Ning Fan was out of the question—she wouldn’t even consider it!
Situ Qingfeng’s intentions were all too clear to her now. He wanted to use her to lay an inescapable trap for Ning Fan, plotting to ambush and kill him.
If Ning Fan truly was the killer of Situ Yuanhua, there’s no way Situ Qingfeng would let him off. Xu Rongfei realized that agreeing to Situ Qingfeng’s plan would equate to setting Ning Fan up for a fall.
“So, you’re saying your own life, as well as your nieces’ lives, doesn’t matter to you?”
Situ Qingfeng issued yet another threat.
But Xu Rongfei sneered in response: “They’re untouchable. Ning Fan is with them, so if you have the capability, go ahead and try. I’m warning you—asking me to harm Ning Fan is a futile dream. You’d best abandon any hope of that!”
“Wretch!”
