Chapter 317: How the mighty have fallen

But the threatening words of the mighty dragon king had the opposite effect of what he wanted. The two powerful demons were standing on two sides of the valkyrie. The demons, now healed, laughed aloud in a chilling, mocking ridicule. Their unhinged demonic laughter resounded through miles and miles. The sound of it filled the whole battlefield between the two races.

All the other battles had stopped by now, on a mutual concession. The focus of the whole continent was on the primary battle that would decide the ultimate winner. Who would be the ruling species of the continent? Even the Elves, Orcs, Ogres, Serpentines, and the Ghost race. All had their eyes glued on the fight that would determine the future course of the continent. But the shock on their faces was palpable that a human woman was taking the lead on the fight against the single strongest being of the continent.

As the evil laughter of the two great demons echoed like a haunting cry of the approaching doom for the Dragon King. The mighty dragon became even more enraged and rushed towards them, using its four legs, unable to fly, and without its large tail keeping the balance, its movements were wholly unnatural.

Then, for the first time since the appearance of the red-haired woman, she smiled, being affected by the ridicule-filled laughter of the two demons. She spoke, her voice carrying a dangerous edge that was hard to dismiss, "Kill all the humans?"

It was more of a statement than a question. But then she declared in a tone of finality, pointing her sword forward, "THAT IS ONLY IF YOU CAN SURVIVE THROUGH THIS BATTLE, DRAGON KING Xytherion."

Just as the enormous claws of the dragon were about to crash onto the three of them with full force, she slashed semi-horizontally, blocking the attack. But she could not hide the immense force it took her to block the attack as cracks spread through the ground beneath her feet. She was forced backwards a few meters, but that in itself was an impossible feat: a mere human had managed to block the physical attack of a dragon.

She shouted immediately, "Bilvur, Jezos NOW....."

The two demons dashed forward at full speed as the Dragon halted momentarily, something that shook the dragon king to his core.

"Hold him, Valkyrie," Jezos replied while Bilvur remained silent, focused on the task ahead. Both demons manifested their wings and took flight. Using the demonic energy, Jezos controlled and structured it into a 500-meter-long scythe, radiating an aura of death. The demon Bilvur constructed a gigantic spear made of his own demonic energy, equally dangerous.

Both attacked downward with every ounce of their demonic energy, leaving a trail of pure destruction in the air. The Dragon was wide open for the attack and felt his doom approaching; it tried to move away. But with the tail gone, its body was unbalanced. At this crucial moment, its injured wings now felt like a burden instead of its greatest asset. The human attacked the dragon again, an arc of silver energy leaving the sword, leaving a large, deep cut on the Dragon King’s face.

It used Dragon magic to put up a powerful shield to protect itself, but it was a crude operation of magic since the dragons rarely used that racial advantage of theirs. They believed in their overwhelming strength, which nothing could stand against. Then... what happened was nothing short of painfully brutal.

The attack of both of the malevolent demons pierced through the back of the gargantuan Dragon. The human also attacked, blinding its eyes. Countless attacks by all three parties, nonstop, the dragon’s cry that had injected primal terror into every living being of the continent now only echoed with helplessness and pain. It was almost sad.

The Dragon King’s wings were cut off, as well as its four limbs. It was a brutal sight to behold. All the other dragons were obviously fighting madly to come and help their king. But it was hopeless. Xytherion, knowing that he had lost and that his race had also lost this war. He commanded one last time to his fellow Dragons in a defeated tone, "FALL BACK, MY DRAGONS, WE HAVE LOST..... I HAVE LOST.

BIDE YOUR TIME, UNTIL THE TIME IS RIGHT."

The dragons started to fall back. Swallowing all shame and rage they felt. They knew that if they pushed too far, the other races might join in and seize this opportunity to eliminate them. However, it would not be without a cost. But it was possible nonetheless. The Dragon King knew that as well. So, he commanded them all to fall back since almost one-third of the Dragons had died on that day.

Jezos laughed in gleeful triumph, seeing the pitiful state of the most arrogant being on the continent. Now lying under his feet. The demon sneered in disdain, as its red eyes glowed in evil light,

"Oh...Xytherion, how the mighty have fallen."

No response came from the Dragon, who once believed the world itself moved with its command. With a dark chuckle voiced by the demon, the Dragon King’s head was finally cut off from its body. The two demons both roared to the skies in boundless joy. The enemy who had humiliated them for multiple hundreds of years was now finally dead. The dragon race, which had treated demons like training machines for their younglings, was now forced to retreat after losing the war.

The damn mighty race of the winged lizards that remained untouchable, unquestionable, and unbeatable for 65,000 years since the day of the first calamity, was now forced to experience defeat. The whole continent cheered at the defeat of the arrogant and overbearing dragons who had occupied the most significant number of territories all alone in the eastern region of the continent. The place that was most filled with the densest energy. That marked the beginning of how Demons became the continent’s most potent force, overthrowing the undisputed status of the Dragons.

The red-haired human did not join in the infectious, joyful cheers of the hideous demon race. She only stated coldly towards the two demons before leaving the area and going back, "Keep your words, Demons. Otherwise, it will be the heads of the two of you that will fall next."

Jezos laughed in response while looking upwards into the sky, "Kara Evercrest, we couldn’t even break the agreement even if we wanted to. After all, Prime Nexus will make sure of it."

Kara vanished into thin air, no more words needed to be said, while Jezos kept looking high towards the darkened sky. What an irony it was, on this historic day, the purple eclipse was happening again. The bright three moons were devouring the giant, evil-looking purple moon, except that this time they signified the two demons and the human valkyrie. At the same time, the Purple Moon represented the dead Dragon King.
