Chapter 318: Agreement of the past

The demons always knew that they could not defeat Xytherion by themselves. At the same time, they amassed their forces in the shadows, feigning defeat for thousands of years. The goal is to deal a significant blow to the dragons by killing the strongest one. Only that can change the dynamic of the continent entirely.

So, they learned and gathered knowledge of every form from the past and present, information about everything they could find. Certain demons excelled at devising strategies that leveraged information to their advantage. Both Bilvur and Jezos granted them the highest authority in this matter, provided they could find something that would help them. What they were searching for were actually relics and weapons that could have a significant effect against the dragon race or amplify the power of their own demonic energy.

But they found no such specific tools. While the Demonic Energy itself could indeed counter the Dragon’s aura incredibly. It wasn’t enough to bridge the colossal gap in physical prowess of the Dragon race. They were too strong; their wings were too mighty. The Dragon Roar of each dragon was the number one mass destruction move that no one could stand against on a similar level of power.

While the demons could not find any specific tools that could be used against the Dragons, they requested the help of the other races to find anything that could aid them. The remaining races were obliged to comply with the request, as more pressure would be exerted upon them if the demons lost and the dragons won. Something that they did not want in the slightest. Finally, a demon scholar stumbled upon a peculiar piece of information.

The humans, who had been left alone for the past 5000 years, had significantly developed, but their strength remained pitifully weak as a race. The report said that the humans had created a special form of arcane magic, something that they used to summon a being from another world. To be precise, it was a human but from a different world. This had happened more than 200 years ago, as it was kept a secret by the royal family of that time. Humanity was under one banner, operating as a whole.

A mid-level demon was sent to the region where humanity lived, in the most barren part of it. Just that one demon should have been more than enough to terrorize the entire society. Assuming humanity was particularly weak. But the demon that was sent never returned. Another demon was sent, stronger than before. But this one never returned as well. More demons were sent, stronger ones and in greater numbers. But the result was the same.

Eventually, one of the two strongest demons was forced to enter human territory in secret, and the situation had become serious. Jezos went into the human territory, crossing the continent. It wasn’t easy for him to come here, especially if the Dragons caught the wind of it; it could be serious. But regardless, it was an important matter he had to attend to.

The moment he drew near the capital of the human land. He halted in his tracks as he sensed a colossal mass of energy at the very center of the royal palace of human rulers. The energy was strong enough to rival his own. No... maybe even stronger.

That powerful being also noticed him, as Jezos’s hair stood on end. His face turned serious. Only the Dragon King could make him feel this way. To feel so small. Of course, the power wasn’t on the level of Xytherion, but it was definitely more than what he himself had. He did not go closer and remained on top of a large building. The energy form moved out of the royal palace. Using teleportation magic, it appeared in front of him, and he was stunned by what he saw.

A woman so beautiful that he couldn’t take his eyes off her. She was mesmerizing. Even the most attractive of the Elven women could not compare to her beauty. The women attacked him with no warning whatsoever. Both of them took the battle to the skies. Jezos indeed felt overwhelmed by the power of the human women. But the gap in strength wasn’t too significant.

"You’re strong, unlike those pests that came before," she commented dryly.

"And you? What are you? Are you even human? How can a human be so strong?" Jezos replied with a serious tone.

They both introduced themselves. Jezos explained the reason why he was here. Though the strength of the human woman was truly frightening, on the inside, Jezos was smiling like the evil demon he truly was. He explained everything from the beginning, knowing the human race was extremely isolated and did not know the actual situation of the continent. And he was right. The humans indeed did not know of the problem. Jezos capitalized on the hatred humans had towards the Dragon.

The reaction of the women was relatively lackluster; she did not seem to care too much, nor did she seem entirely convinced by his words. So, Jezos took another approach. Since he revealed a lot of things, he asked about her. If she was truly an otherworldly being summoned by a magic developed by humans?

She was a bit surprised by the fact that they knew so much, and revealed that to be indeed the case. There was no need to hide it. Jezos could feel that there was no other individual in the human race nearly as strong as her. Without her, the human race was indeed by far the weakest. So, he proposed a deal.

Suppose she helped him in the final fight against the Dragon King. The demon race would protect humanity for the next 10,000 years. But the valkyrie did not like the nature of the deal. She proposed something else.

"The Demon Race must protect humanity when it does not have a valkyrie protecting it. And the period of time when the summoned valkyrie is not strong enough yet. Till the 100,000th year mark."

Jezos obviously protested highly against such a deal. That was too long a time, just for one-time help.

But the valkyrie added further, "By protection, I meant to say that the demon race only needs to act as a deterrent against the other races, for the times when a valkyrie is not present to protect humanity or is only at the early stages of their power. Besides, if the demons win this war, I doubt you will stay quiet. The remaining races will be too busy dealing with you demons to pay any attention to us."

Jezos chuckled darkly. That was indeed the case. Their real goal would come after they had won the Dragon-Demon war. As for humans, they didn’t care about them. This region was just too barren in energy for them to have interest in it. They sealed the agreement on that day. This eventually led to the death of the Dragon King.

And that impossible feat of the valkyrie cautioned the other races not to dare take any action against humans. The demon race also warned the different races not to take action against humanity. Of course, they were not stupid; they found out that the humans did not suddenly gain strength as a whole. But the summoned valkyrie was protecting humanity alone, and she alone was enough.
