Chapter 38: The Use of a Corpse

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: The Use of a Corpse

What are they doing? Packing.

Packing what? Huang Yaru.

Pulling the sheet from the bed, Tang Xiaoquan and Du Jian lifted the completely dead body inside, then packed it into a bag.

It sounds simple, but it’s actually quite difficult to do.

Not to mention that her shattered head is hard to manage; the stench from her zombified body is already unbearable.

Tang Xiaoquan took the sealing bag from the survival kit, and sealed and reinforced three positions on the body bag: upper, middle, and lower, for reasons such as:

One: to mask the smell, preventing the stench from attracting insects.

Two: to prepare for the next step.

So, what does Tang Xiaoquan plan to do next?

After finishing the sealing, Tang Xiaoquan removed the disposable plastic gloves, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and panted, "Du Brother, let’s take the body out together."

"Take it out?" Du Jian paused, wiping his right hand on his sweat, quite puzzled: "Isn’t it more appropriate to leave it in the room?"

According to the guy’s idea, since the body was packed, closing the door was the best way to stop the stench, but he clearly misunderstood Tang Xiaoquan’s intention.

Shaking his head slightly, Tang Xiaoquan wiped the sweat off his face again, but the stuffy room felt like a big steamer, causing his sweat to drip.

"Brother Du, the zombies in the corridor are already showing signs of agitation, so I plan to throw this body bag down to make some noise and divert their attention."

Raising an eyebrow, Du Jian showed a surprised expression: "You mean to throw it down?"

Nodding affirmatively, Tang Xiaoquan gave his answer.

"This~ seems a bit disrespectful! As they say, rest in peace. Although we can’t give her a proper funeral now, as long as the body is here, we can make it up later." Due to his rural customs, Du Jian still valued some things passed down by the ancestors.

However, to the ears of the 21st-century youth Tang Xiaoquan, his argument was hard to understand:

"Brother Du, you’re right. Just abandoning Huang Yaru’s body like this is indeed a bit inappropriate, but at this critical moment, we really can’t afford those formalities."

"Exactly!" Tang Xiaoquan was in the middle of speaking when a low voice came from outside the door. Then Wang Qiang pushed the door open and said: "I agree with Tang’s proposal!"

Without any fuss, Wang Qiang went straight to the point: "Brother Du, you have to know that if we don’t take action against those zombies out there, it’s only a matter of time before we bring disaster to this room! So seize the day, Yaru’s death pains me too. But the deceased is gone, and the living continue, moreover, her zombified self is no longer human. Now we should be considering how to survive, to live on for her share too."

Tang Xiaoquan stared blankly at Wang Qiang beside him, somewhat doubting if this was still the carefree guy he knew.

Clearly, Wang Qiang’s previous words were quite insightful, at least they sounded reasonable, advantageous, and modest.

The bedroom fell silent again. Du Jian stared at the body bag on the floor for a few seconds, then sighed deeply, seemingly making a significant decision, and shook his head helplessly: "Alright, since you both say so, let’s do it your way."

With unified opinions, without delay, the three of them together lifted the body bag to the kitchen window, then exerted force to push it down together.

Huang Yaru, about 1.68 meters tall, weighing around 100 pounds, although slightly reduced after zombification, her weight still mattered.

So under gravitational acceleration, the sheet containing her corpse created a muffled sound the instant it hit the ground.

"Bang!" Their hearts trembled, and Tang Xiaoquan and the two others held their breath.

Outside the small room, following the noise, the corridor fell briefly silent, then shuffling footsteps started getting chaotic, as if the once confused zombies now received some sort of pull, began heading toward the bottom of the building one after another.

Tiptoeing back to the living room, the Tang Wang Du trio made every effort to keep their voices down, fearing an unintended disturbance to the zombies outside rushing to "watch the show."

After about 2 hours, the agitated corridor finally gradually calmed down, and the silent survivors were exhausted by the insufferable ordeal.

They each did a quick wash-up in the bathroom, and since the clothes they wore today hadn’t been washed, the three men ended up bare-chested.

However, with Huang Yaru gone, for the moment, this indecent attire wasn’t a problem.

Another sleepless night, as the sunrise rose again from the horizon, Tang Wang Du had gathered by the window to check the situation outside.

In their view, clusters of zombies dragged weakened legs, wandering aimlessly back and forth, just like morning pedestrians strolling along the street.

Upon closer observation, you would find that where the zombies gathered most was precisely the spot where the body bag dropped last night.

Only the tightly wrapped body bag was now shredded to pieces, with the insides showing Yaru in an unwatchable state.

Tang Xiaoquan stared unblinkingly at the body bag, with his gaze entirely focused on Yaru’s disorganized body.

"Hey, Tang, what are you thinking?" Seeing his friend’s dazed and foolish look, Wang Qiang curiously asked.

"Ah~" A slight shiver brought Tang Xiaoquan back from his thoughts. He laughed awkwardly twice: "Oh, nothing. By the way, Brother Du, where’s that van you mentioned?"

The van was undoubtedly the most crucial step in Tang Xiaoquan’s escape plan,

As Du Jian had stated, the car was parked on the street outside the corridor, and even though it’s old, he maintained it regularly, so its overall performance was reliable.

"There it is." Du Jian immediately replied.

Following the direction of his finger, Tang Xiaoquan finally spotted the van.

The car wasn’t far from their building, about 100 meters away. However, the narrow street, with both-side lanes blocked by random parking and street stalls, made it highly complicated, so passing smoothly won’t be easy.

But this was clearly not something they needed to consider now; how to escape from the corridor and get to the car was the urgent issue they needed to solve.

Returning to the living room, A-Cheng was already lazily yawning while sitting there. Clearly, he had a good night’s sleep, unaffected by the noise in the adjacent room.

Just...

"Uncle, was there any issue in Sister Huang’s room last night?"
