"Ah, ah, ah..."
Adam retreated frantically, waving his arms, letting out a continuous wail.
The skin on his body was visibly corroding, quickly revealing fresh red flesh. Immediately following the corrosion, pieces of that flesh began to fall from Adam's body.
Soon, Adam collapsed to the ground, his wails gradually fading. The flesh on his body turned into a bloody pulp, slowly sliding onto the ground, leaving only a skeleton that was still sizzling and emitting white smoke.
"You have killed a participant (Biotechnology Civilization World)."
"As this is your first successful kill of a Biotechnology Civilization World participant, you are rewarded with: Initial Gene Modification Cell Fluid x1."
"You have obtained two fragments of the God Stone."
Bai Ye looked at the white bones not far away and the light that appeared before his eyes. He finally let out a sigh of relief, shifting his gaze away from Adam's corpse. He lay back, looking at the ceiling, and gasped for breath.
He almost died!
The feeling of surviving a near-death experience was wonderful!
After resting for a moment and regaining his composure, Bai Ye pushed himself up from the ground and walked towards the bank's entrance.
This time, no one could stop Bai Ye.
Limping across the street, Bai Ye opened the car door and got in.
"Drive," the Penguin shouted at the driver, then looked at Bai Ye and chuckled, "You look a bit more battered than I imagined."
"So what?" Bai Ye casually took out a laser engraving plate and tossed it to the Penguin. "As long as I have the item, isn't that enough!"
The Penguin's eyes lit up. He eagerly took the laser engraving plate and quickly inspected it.
"Yes, this is exactly what I wanted."
The next instant...
"You have assisted the Penguin in obtaining the laser printing plate from the Lex Bank vault, receiving a reward of: 3 million x1, Sin Value x100, Carrier Pigeon x1."
Bai Ye looked at the Penguin and said, "So, our transaction is complete, correct?"
The Penguin nodded, "Yes, it's complete. You did a beautiful job..."
Before the Penguin could finish speaking, his eyes suddenly widened, and he looked down at his chest, where a short dagger was plunged.
Incredulously, the Penguin looked back up at Bai Ye.
Bai Ye ignored him, instead drawing out the renowned sword "Blood Drinker" and then forcefully thrusting it back into the Penguin's chest.
He repeated this several times until the Penguin drew his last breath. The driver, clearly witnessing everything in the rearview mirror, froze in shock. By the time he realized what was happening and tried to stop the car to escape, it was already too late.
Bai Ye suddenly lunged, grabbing the driver's collar from behind and yanking him back. He plunged a knife into the driver's neck.
With the driver incapacitated, the car began to lose control and then...
Bang!
The car veered onto the sidewalk, broke through the guardrail, and crashed into a wall. The hood popped open, emitting black smoke.
Bai Ye opened the door, stepped out of the car, and watched as the Penguin's henchmen's car stopped behind him. He casually pulled out a grenade, pulled the pin, and rolled it onto the ground.
Boom!
The sound of the explosion echoed as a fiery inferno erupted.
Almost instantly, it consumed both the car and its occupants.
Bai Ye leaned against the car, took out a pack of cigarettes, lit one, and then walked slowly down the street.
Why kill the Penguin?
Because his mission was over, and the guy was no longer useful. And...
Bai Ye needed blood.
Blood Drinker (When in combat, after dealing damage to a target, it will absorb the target's blood to restore its own injuries and stamina.)
This was the effect of the renowned sword "Blood Drinker." Killing the Penguin wouldn't be enough to heal Bai Ye's current injuries, but it would at least alleviate them somewhat.
So, Bai Ye killed him.
Under the cloak of night, Bai Ye's figure soon disappeared.
...
City of Sin, Investigation Bureau!
Commissioner Gordon, his head wrapped in bandages, smoked a cigarette, lost in thought as he gazed at the ruins before him.
After an unknown period, Gordon stood up, left the boisterous Investigation Bureau, walked through the streets, entered a building, and took an elevator to the top floor.
The night breeze blew, carrying a chill.
Gordon approached a searchlight, removed the black cloth covering it, and then switched it on.
The searchlight pointed towards the sky, and beneath the beam, the silhouette of a bat appeared in the air.
Gordon took out his cigarette case, lit a cigarette, and waited in silence.
After an indeterminate time, a hoarse voice suddenly spoke from behind Gordon: "What do you want with me?"
Gordon turned around. Standing in the shadows was a burly man.
The man wore a black, form-fitting suit and a black cape. His muscles were clearly defined, and his face was largely obscured by a black cowl, revealing only his mouth.
Batman, the most paradoxical figure in the City of Sin.
Some called him a hero, for he consistently fought criminals and protected the City of Sin. Those he saved revered him as the city's last beacon of light.
However, to others, like Gordon, the man before him was also a criminal.
Yes, a criminal!
Because Batman also challenged order.
If everyone were to solve problems with their fists like Batman, this city would eventually collapse. Even though the man before him consistently did good deeds, Gordon still felt it was wrong.
Order should be built on rules and authority, not fists.
But Gordon no longer had authority.
The city's last vestige of authority had been shattered by Bai Ye.
Gordon got straight to the point: "Have you heard about the incident at the Investigation Bureau?"
Batman nodded. "I have."
Gordon continued, "I detest you. Your existence makes our work easier, but I never believed your actions were beneficial to this city. However, this time, I must seek your help."
Batman replied, "Catch him, right?"
Gordon nodded. "Yes, we must catch that madman. If he's allowed to roam free, our credibility in this city will be severely challenged. No one will trust us anymore, and people will only choose to escape when faced with crime. Perhaps, at this very moment, this city truly needs a hero to appear. Even though I dislike you, I must admit that you can accomplish what I cannot."
Batman asked, "Are there any leads?"
"Some, but not much," Gordon said. "I don't know his age, his appearance, or his height and weight. I was completely defeated this time, but I did speak with him on the phone, and my phone has an automatic recording function, so I recorded the conversation."
As Gordon spoke, he placed a USB drive on the ground.
"His voice is my only clue," Gordon said. "Can you find him?"
Batman pondered for a moment, then replied, "I'll try."
