Chapter 21 Ambush

"Hey!" Bai Ye said, "Where are those guys robbing you?"

Victor gasped, "Highway 403?"

Bai Ye asked, "After they robbed you, where was the destination for escorting the supplies?"

Victor replied, "They have main bases on both Highway 403 and 404, but their escort point should be the main base at the end of Highway 404."

Bai Ye inquired, "Reason?"

Victor explained, "The main base on Highway 403 is near the ruined city, while the main base on Highway 404 is at the end of the road. Calculating the distance from where they robbed us, the main base at the end of Highway 404 is closer." 138 Reading Network.

Bai Ye realized, "I see, so you can intercept them from both ends, and if successful, send the goods to the closer main base. Then, how long ago did they rob you?"

Victor answered, "Four or five hours ago. Why are you asking?"

Bai Ye said, "Although I can't save you, your wish to kill those guys, I can help you fulfill."

Victor was stunned for a moment, then exclaimed in surprise, "You're going after the Highway Knights? Are you crazy? You'll die!"

"That's my business," Bai Ye smiled, raising his gun and pointing it at Victor. "Do you need my help?"

Victor stared intently at Bai Ye, then said, "Please tell them, I'll wait for them in hell."

"Alright!" Bai Ye pulled the trigger. "Goodbye!"

With the gunshot, Victor's body slumped backward, his head tilted to the side.

Bai Ye brought an oil drum, siphoned the gasoline from the car into his motorcycle, and poured the last bit onto Victor's body before tossing a lighter.

The jeep quickly burst into flames.

Amidst the fire, Bai Ye got on his motorcycle and rode back towards the highway.

Four or five hours ago...

Bai Ye wasn't entirely sure if he could catch up to the Highway Knights, but since a mission had suddenly appeared, it must be completable. Impossible missions didn't exist, so it all depended on whether Bai Ye could seize the opportunity.

Bai Ye didn't overthink it. Missions were about doing your best and leaving the rest to fate; sometimes, luck played a part.

And this time...

Bai Ye's luck seemed to be good!

Before passing through the Red Rock Mountain area and returning to the highway, Bai Ye spotted a convoy on the road from afar.

The convoy wasn't large; in fact, calling it a convoy was flattering, as there were only three vehicles. However, these vehicles had undergone formidable modifications.

The lead vehicle was a pickup truck with its doors removed, two massive metal scythes mounted at the rear, and a Gatling gun added to the roof. The front bumper was reinforced with two layers, making it look very sturdy.

The second vehicle was a combination of two car shells welded together, with giant tires reaching a person's height. The front was hollowed out, with the engine exposed, and four blades, each at least as thick as an adult's arm, were welded to the front. If hit by this thing, there would be no outcome other than the destruction of the vehicle and death.

But the most terrifying was the third vehicle. Those guys had somehow acquired tank tracks, using scrapped cars for the body. Eight tires on each side complemented the tracks, and the armament on the roof was formidable, with machine guns mounted at each of the four corners.

Simultaneously, gear-like saw blades extended outwards from the front and rear of the vehicle. The front bumper was also reinforced and fitted with giant cone spikes, each as thick as an adult's thigh.

Only the Highway Knights, led by the Undead, possessed such modified vehicles.

The four or five-hour journey had allowed him to catch up. They must have been delayed by something or taken a break on the road.

However, the reason was unimportant to Bai Ye; what mattered was that he had found them.

Bai Ye grinned and accelerated, moving swiftly through the desert, quickly leaving the three vehicles behind.

After about half an hour, Bai Ye had put considerable distance between himself and the three vehicles. He stopped his motorcycle, placed the Frost Sword in the middle of the road, and then rode his motorcycle away, positioning himself behind some large rocks in the desert.

Bai Ye knelt on the ground, took out the bipod and high-magnification scope from his gun case, attached them to his Aug assault rifle, and then lay prone on the ground, steadying the rifle.

The enemy vehicles had been violently modified, bristling with weapons all over. Bai Ye only had an old motorcycle, so a direct assault would be suicide. To take them down, he needed to set up an ambush and force their vehicles to stop.

Using the high-magnification scope, he scanned the road. The three vehicles were slower than he expected; he couldn't see them yet.

"While I'm waiting..." Bai Ye suddenly remembered he had one gacha pull left for the day. Since he needed to wait anyway, he decided to pull it. "Might as well do a pull."

The gacha machine appeared beside him, and with the whirring sound of the mechanism, a large capsule rolled out.

Looking at the capsule, Bai Ye blinked slightly. It was black.

The rarity of the capsules was distinguished by color, ranging from white, green, blue, black, red, and finally gold.

White, green, and blue were considered low-level capsules, while starting from black, they were considered high-level.

This was because the items produced by the capsules underwent a qualitative leap from the black ones.

"Indeed, this is my turn for luck? After so many bad experiences, things are bound to get better."

Bai Ye thought this as he twisted open the black capsule.

Yin-Yang Reversal: A profound technique from the supreme martial art, Tai Chi. It utilizes the body's Yin and Yang energy to create a vortex around the body. This vortex can absorb surrounding projectiles for up to nine seconds, after which the absorbed objects can be expelled by the vortex.

"Wow, it's a martial arts move!"

Judging by its description, it seemed to absorb attacks and then reflect them. However, its true effect would only be known when used.

But regardless, it was a black capsule. Based on his past life's experience, from black capsules onwards, the only variation was whether it was a good item or a "skip" – like that damned "Try Again" slip that had made him cry tears of blood.

However, there was little doubt about its power; items from black capsules were generally good.

And at this moment...

The sound of engines echoed from afar.

Bai Ye quickly used the high-magnification scope to observe the road.

The three Highway Knights' vehicles...

They had arrived!
