With a 'poof,' Bai Ye's blade flashed, slicing across the burly man's chest. A wound slowly appeared, crimson blood staining his clothes.
Clutching his injury, the man stumbled back, leaning against a large tree. "You are strong," he gritted out.
"Just a little," Bai Ye replied with a smile, holding up a finger. "A tiny bit stronger."
"With your abilities, you could have killed us without resorting to such tactics. Why go to such cruel lengths?"
"You ambushed me here, intending to take what's in the Mausoleum of the King of Huainan, right? Oh, and the fragments of the Stone of the Gods!" Bai Ye retorted. "You wanted to kill me from the start, didn't you?"
As he spoke, Bai Ye raised his serrated blade and thrust it deep into the man's abdomen.
'Poof!'
The man's eyes widened in shock. He coughed, blood spewing from his mouth.
"So," Bai Ye continued, his blade raking horizontally, slicing open the man's stomach, "what right do you have to demand my mercy?"
Clutching his wounded belly, the man slumped against the tree, slowly kneeling before finally collapsing at Bai Ye's feet.
Bai Ye casually shook his blade, then turned and walked towards the mountain path, eventually disappearing from view.
...
Following the mountain path down to the base of the mountain meant leaving Bagua Mountain, but not the immortal realm region.
Each area within the world battlefield was quite vast, containing at least three to five forbidden zones. Therefore, leaving an immortal realm region was no easy feat. Bai Ye's rapid exit from the Doomsday Ruins area was purely coincidental, as the Umbrella Corporation's underground base was situated on its very edge.
Consequently, it took Bai Ye a week of slogging through the wilderness before he emerged, disheveled and weary.
"Damn it, this should be the supernatural region up ahead," he muttered.
Bai Ye's next target was the spirit entity.
With his body temporarily enhanced by the T-virus and the continuous cultivation using the Five Spirits Incantations, Bai Ye felt he was lacking in one crucial area: a means of self-preservation.
He had possessed a spirit entity in his past life, finding it incredibly useful, capable of saving his life at critical junctures. He had escaped danger several times thanks to it, and he was unwilling to let this ability slip through his fingers again.
However, Bai Ye now faced other pressing concerns.
For one, his food and water supplies were running dangerously low.
For another, he seemed to have gotten lost.
His memories from his past life weren't infallible. Spanning a decade, his recollections of areas he had visited in his earlier years were hazy and lacked precise detail.
"Still, at least I made it out," he mused.
Bai Ye gazed at the area boundary ahead, a vast expanse of cyan light forming a colossal wall before him. As he stepped through...
"Hmm?" Bai Ye looked around, puzzled. "Why are there trees everywhere again?"
On the other side of the region boundary lay more dense foliage.
Upon closer inspection, Bai Ye noticed a difference. This wasn't a mountain forest. The terrain was remarkably flat, and the trees themselves were significantly different from what he had seen before. This appeared to be a tropical jungle.
"Does the supernatural region have jungles?" Bai Ye scratched his head. "Ah, well, time for a break."
He found a large tree and sat down, consuming a nutrient paste. He took stock of his remaining supplies; he had enough for at most two more days before running out of food.
Bai Ye pondered. Regardless of whether this place was a supernatural region or not, he needed to find food first. And before that...
"Let's try for a couple of draws first!"
Bai Ye checked the time. It had been twenty-four hours, and it was time for another 'one-shot-soul-enters-heaven-hell' draw.
While sipping the nutrient paste, he tossed out the gacha machine. Bai Ye gave it a casual spin, and soon, a white capsule rolled out, landing at his feet.
"Not this stuff again!"
Opening the capsule, he found a card that read: Great Inventor.
The memory of the solar-powered flashlight made his head ache.
"A person can't be this unlucky, can they?"
Bai Ye hesitated, then spun the gacha machine again. Soon, a blue capsule tumbled out.
This time, Bai Ye was satisfied. Though not a high-tier item, it was at least close. He opened the capsule and read:
Invisible Detonation (Ability) (Blue): Can create an invisible, remote-controlled bomb anywhere, with a limit of three at any given time.
Bai Ye knew this ability. He had drawn it in his past life, and it was quite useful, considered one of the better blue-tier rewards.
"Since my luck seems to be picking up..." Bai Ye rubbed his hands together. "Let's press our advantage!"
As he spoke, Bai Ye prepared to spin the gacha machine once more. Just then...
*Thump, thump, thump...*
Heavy footsteps echoed from deep within the jungle, their pace rapid and urgent.
Bai Ye tilted his head. Was it some kind of beast?
The footsteps grew louder, faster, and then...
Bai Ye froze.
A massive head suddenly emerged from behind a tree. It wasn't a lion, a tiger, or a bear, but...
A dinosaur!
It wasn't particularly large, perhaps two and a half meters tall, with a long neck, walking like an ostrich, and a long tail swaying on the ground.
A raptor!
Then...
The sounds of crushing leaves and grass became continuous.
One by one, raptors emerged from the jungle, appearing before Bai Ye.
Alright, Bai Ye decided to correct himself. This was...
A pack of raptors!
In the next instant, Bai Ye flipped over, scrambled to his feet, and bolted.
His move seemed to act as a starting signal. The raptors immediately gave chase, a dark mass surging in his direction.
"Damn it, why are there dinosaurs in the supernatural region?"
Bai Ye cursed as he ran fifty to sixty meters ahead. He flipped over a fallen tree and was finally caught up by the raptors.
A massive head lunged from the side, its jaws snapping open to bite at Bai Ye.
At that moment, Bai Ye could smell the putrid odor emanating from the raptor's mouth, the thick saliva dripping from its sharp teeth clearly visible.
In a hair's breadth, Bai Ye instinctively crouched. The gaping maw of the raptor brushed past his scalp.
Bai Ye quickly pushed off the ground with one hand, rolling to the side.
However, before he could get back on his feet, two more raptors lunged from his left and right, their heads lowered to bite at him.
Bai Ye swiftly grabbed the hovering Frost Sword and swung it down with all his might!
...
