Chapter 004 Moving Forward

"Damn it!"

Bai Ye cursed under his breath as he looked out of the elevator.

Even with the zombie falling, Bai Ye's danger was far from over.

The corridor outside the elevator was crawling with zombies. The moment the gunshots rang out, they all turned towards Bai Ye's direction, shambling forward with guttural hisses.

Without hesitation, Bai Ye quickly raised his hand, aimed, and fired.

Bang, bang, bang...

As the gunshots resumed, the two zombies in the front fell, their heads exploding like smashed watermelons.

Bai Ye's eyes brightened slightly. Although he had returned to ten years ago and his physical stats were now that of a weakling, his shooting skills hadn't changed much due to his retained memories.

After all, marksmanship was like riding a bicycle. Once learned, it was learned. His memories allowed Bai Ye to react instinctively. While undoubtedly weaker than in his previous life, he was still at a decent level.

The only thing that bothered Bai Ye was how much this body needed strengthening. The recoil from the gun made his wrist ache.

Thinking this, Bai Ye moved forward. With a flick of his wrist, he ejected the empty magazine and inserted a new one.

When he obtained this Glock 17 from the gacha machine, he had also received ten magazines.

The magazine was reloaded, and just as a zombie lunged at him.

Bai Ye smirked. The timing was perfect.

The next moment, Bai Ye shoved the handgun into the snarling zombie's mouth.

Bang!

A bloody hole burst in the back of the zombie's head, and blood splattered on the ground. The zombie then fell backward.

Bai Ye crouched down, tore a strip of cloth from the zombie, and wiped the blood off his gun. He then continued forward, a new wariness in his eyes compared to before.

The sudden zombie attack was a stark reminder. Although he had entered the Umbrella Corporation's underground base in his previous life, and the restricted zone missions hadn't changed, everything within the base wasn't static. In his past life, Bai Ye hadn't encountered any zombie attacks when exiting the elevator, but this time, zombies were lurking at the entrance.

This was normal; zombies weren't inanimate objects, they moved.

"However, while living things move, ..." Bai Ye said, glancing to the side, "...inanimate objects remain unchanged."

Passing through the metal-plated corridor, they entered an office area that looked like any ordinary office building.

But Bai Ye knew that normalcy would end here.

Beyond the office area, the corridor was still metal-plated, but rooms with one-way glass appeared on the sides.

Inside these rooms were metal laboratory benches, stained with blood and littered with disturbing tools.

Pliers, scissors, saws...

Anyone with a brain would know what kind of experiments the Umbrella Corporation had conducted here.

"Then, after the laboratory area, there should be the mess hall. From the corridor of Area A6, turn towards Area B3..." Bai Ye pushed open a large metal door and then smiled, "Found it."

This was a moderately sized room filled with rows of silver metal shelves. On them were countless silver bags, each with a small screw-top opening at the top.

This was the base's food storage warehouse, and the bags contained emergency nutrient fluid.

This was Bai Ye's target. To survive in the World Battlefield, food was essential. Therefore, while completing the restricted zone mission, Bai Ye also intended to gather supplies.

Bai Ye casually swept his hand across a shelf, and the emergency nutrient fluid bags began to disappear. In his inventory, they were replaced by: Emergency Nutrient Fluid: x50.

Bai Ye nodded with satisfaction and prepared to leave the food storage warehouse.

But at that moment...

Clang!

A sharp metallic impact suddenly echoed.

Bai Ye became extremely vigilant, raising his gun with both hands and looking up at the ceiling.

The metallic sound was coming from above.

Bai Ye's gaze quickly settled on the ventilation ducts and he began to move slowly.

Moments later, as the ventilation ducts made noise again, Bai Ye quickly pinpointed the location and raised his gun to fire.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang...

As Bai Ye pulled the trigger, the gunshots continued. Soon, holes appeared in the ventilation ducts.

From these holes, dark red blood slowly dripped down.

Drip, drip!

The blood landed on the ground, making a sound.

Killed it?

No, not yet!

Suddenly, a loud bang sounded, and the ventilation duct burst open, revealing a monstrous creature that lunged out.

The creature was vaguely humanoid but moved on all fours like a beast. Its entire body was devoid of skin, revealing pale red flesh covered in a viscous fluid. A massive maw occupied half its face, and its drooping tongue was at least three to four meters long.

Bai Ye bared his teeth. This was no ordinary zombie; it was a zombie from Wang Wei's poem – a Licker!

Bai Ye instinctively retreated backward, but it was a moment too late. The Licker's speed was incredible. With a twist of its head, its scarlet tongue lashed out, coiling around Bai Ye.

The next instant, Bai Ye's ankle was ensnared by the Licker's tongue, and he was instantly flung into the air.

Bang!

His back slammed hard against the wall behind him, the intense pain contorting Bai Ye's face.

The Licker crawled on the ground, rapidly approaching Bai Ye.

Bai Ye tugged hard at the Licker's tongue, realizing he couldn't make it release its grip. He immediately raised his gun and pressed it against the tongue.

Bang, bang, bang!

Continuous gunfire severed a section of the Licker's tongue. Bai Ye used this to break free. The intense pain caused the Licker to writhe on the ground, letting out agonizing roars.

A moment later, the Licker flipped over and, fueled by rage, its aura became even more violent. With a powerful thrust of its legs, it lunged at Bai Ye again.

Bai Ye scrambled sideways with all his might.

Clang!

The instant Bai Ye leaped away, the Licker crashed into the wall.

The embedded metal plate in the wall let out a deafening clang as it was forcefully dented.

The Licker slowly recoiled, shaking its slightly dazed head. It then turned back towards Bai Ye, its severed scarlet tongue dragging across the ground, leaving a trail of viscous slime.
