Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Victor: I hate it so much!
General Philip’s words really moved Logan.
At the same time, he also picked up on how fixated the top brass were on [Supernova].
After he hung up, Logan immediately converted 800 billion in supplies into 800,000 points.
To mislead outsiders, Sophia split the points into three parts: Logan held 400,000, while Yelena and Sawako each had 200,000.
On top of that, over the past few days Steve and the others kept sending monster corpses to Yelena and Sawako. Soon, all three of them had over 300,000 points, taking the top three spots on the leaderboard.
This amount also broke the all-time record of the Genius Training Camp.
Seeing the result, Sophia rubbed her temples. "Logan, bring Sawako and Yelena. You’ll redeem your rewards in my office right now."
She pulled a long list from a cabinet and handed it to Logan. "Pick from this. The system’s prizes aren’t good."
Logan took the list, skimmed it, and was instantly drawn in by the rewards.
[Soul Sea Training Method (Special): Strengthens a familiar tamer’s Soul Sea, greatly boosting their mental power and control. There are 12 tiers. Each tier adds one extra familiar contract slot. Price: 100,000 points.]
[Familiar Gene Fusion Method (Special): Lets you selectively fuse familiar gene fragments so the familiar tamer’s body gains a familiar’s talent. There are 12 tiers. Each tier lets you fuse one more familiar talent. Price: 100,000 points.]
[Familiar Stat Resonance Method (Special): Lets you engrave rune arrays on a familiar’s body so all of the familiar tamer’s familiars get a stat boost. There are 12 tiers. Each tier increases the stat boost by 20%. Price: 100,000 points.]
...
Looking at this long list of familiar tamer training methods, Logan’s eyes blazed.
As expected, the real good stuff wasn’t public. The starting price alone was 100,000 points.
Yelena and Sawako stood beside him, also checking the list. When they saw the price, both stuck out their tongues.
"Whoa, this is way too expensive!" Sawako’s eyes went wide with shock. "Even if someone in the Genius Training Camp grinds until graduation, they probably still can’t earn 100,000 points!"
"Maybe these were never meant for regular students," Yelena calmed down fast and looked at Sophia. "Instructor, these are prizes for first place in the Genius Training Camp, right?"
Hearing Yelena’s guess, Sophia lowered her eyes and sighed. "No. Even the top student in the Genius Training Camp isn’t qualified to redeem them. There’s only one condition: earn 300,000 points within six months by your own skill. Because any one of these prizes was provided by past [Supernovas], including the training methods you’re seeing."
Hearing this, Logan and the others were full of awe.
He hadn’t expected humans to have so many brilliant minds who could create such strange and powerful training methods.
Training methods were always the most widespread knowledge in the Human Federation, but also the least valued by familiar tamers.
Even Logan hadn’t thought that top-tier familiar tamer methods could develop such rich and strong abilities.
Seeing Logan and the others overwhelmed by choices, Sophia didn’t rush them. She waited quietly on the side, letting Logan decide for himself.
While they were picking rewards, Victor had already reached the valley.
The moment he landed, he rushed to the administrative center to redeem his points.
But as soon as he stepped through the door, the noisy scene grabbed his attention.
Right then, the staff of the Genius Training Camp were crowded together, excitedly talking and arguing, nothing like their usual orderly selves.
Seeing how worked up they were, Victor moved closer.
When he squeezed into the crowd, his eyes were drawn to the big screen ahead:
[Leaderboard: Phase 1]
[1st: Logan (401500/401500)]
[2nd: Sawako (320300/320300)]
[3rd: Yelena (310100/310100)]
[4th: Victor (101500/101500)]
[...]
Seeing himself suddenly drop to fourth, Victor’s eyes went red.
He clenched his space ring with both hands, wanting to smash the screen right there.
But thinking about the consequences and the setting, he took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down.
"Instructor, hello, I want to redeem my points," Victor said, trying to get the noisy staff’s attention.
But everyone was talking about Logan and the others. No one paid Victor any mind.
This was a heavy blow to his pride.
Furious, Victor lost control. His body swelled as he triggered familiar possession, gaining the Golden Behemoth’s power.
"I said I want to redeem my points! Didn’t you hear me?" His loud roar cut through the noise and the busy administrative building fell silent.
Seeing that Victor looked ready to start a fight, the staff frowned and went back to their stations.
An instructor took Victor’s space ring, pulled out a calculator, and started checking the value of the goods inside.
But after just a few taps, his face grew serious.
Right in front of Victor, the instructor calmly picked up his phone and sent a message to the Saint Heart City military.
About an hour later, Victor stared at the instructor, clearly impatient. "Are you done yet?"
"Almost," the instructor said, brushing him off while still tapping on the calculator.
"That’s the eighth time you’ve said ’almost’!" Victor’s impatience was obvious, and his attitude kept getting worse.
The instructor didn’t get angry. He kept pretending to tally the numbers.
Victor stared at the leaderboard, his expectations rising. "Just you wait! It’s only three or four hundred thousand points. Once I exchange seven hundred billion in supplies, I’ll have eight hundred thousand points on my own!"
But just as he was imagining how he’d show off and mock Logan and the others, a group of uniformed familiar tamers walked into the lobby of the administrative building.
A middle-aged officer with a colonel’s insignia stepped forward and gave Victor a cold look. "Are you Victor from the Tattalia family?"
Faced with the sudden arrival of soldiers, Victor was a bit stunned.
But he’d always been arrogant and lawless, and he showed the officer zero respect. He answered with his chin up, "What? Didn’t your superior teach you to be polite to members of the Tattalia family?"
"Polite, my ass!" the officer snapped, and slapped Victor hard across the face.
With a sharp crack, Victor’s pale cheek turned red.
Blood oozed from his nose and the corner of his mouth. He looked a mess.
Before Victor could get up and strike back, the officer gave the order to the soldiers behind him: "Take him back for questioning."
Hearing the word "questioning," Victor forced himself to calm down. "You have no right to interrogate me. I’m from the Tattalia family!"
But the soldiers didn’t care.
They grabbed him by the arms and started to haul him away.
In a panic, Victor threw them off with all his strength, ignoring rank and setting.
Seeing Victor show Master-level combat power, the officer’s eyes flashed with a hint of approval. "Your Tattalia family is suspected of major crimes. General Philip has ordered a full investigation. If you come quietly and explain things, I can make it a little easier for you."
As he spoke, a cold, deadly aura rolled off him, carrying the pressure of a true Master. Sweat broke out on Victor’s forehead.
Victor might have Master-level combat power, but he wasn’t truly at the Master level yet. Facing this officer, he knew he had no chance.
So, for the first time, he tried to reason. "I have the right to know what crime I’m accused of!"
The officer saw Victor’s defiant look and grinned. "Intentional assault on free familiar tamers. Robbery of their property, with amounts in the tens of trillions. Killing, crippling, and injuring hundreds of free familiar tamers. Hundreds of Tattalia members took part directly. Does that count as a crime?"
Victor was stunned.
What was this? Could it be that old Barzini had been caught by the military?
At that thought, his heart went cold.
"You can’t detain me. I’m a member of the Genius Training Camp. Without direct evidence, I have immunity!"
Seeing Victor argue, the officer took the space ring from the camp instructor and waved it at him. "Ninety percent of the monster remains in this ring are lifeforms unique to the Blood Cultivation Realm around Saint Heart City. I have reason to suspect you’re using point exchanges to fence stolen goods."
Pfft!
Victor was so angry he spat blood.
This was the first time in his memory that an officer had turned the tables on him and tried to frame him.
In the past, which officer, judge, or sheriff didn’t speak to him politely?
But the officer in front of him was unfathomably strong. Victor could only grit his teeth and leave the valley with the soldiers.
With this cooperation in the investigation, Victor would be locked up for at least seven or eight days. Thinking about how the resources he’d finally gotten still weren’t converted to points made him feel sick.
"I hate this so much! Logan, Yelena, Sawako, just you wait!"
