Chapter 79: Ruan Zeqiu: My Sister will not do it!
"She was attacked by the members of the snake tribe. I don’t know what happened or how they attacked her, but now... but now my sister is gravely injured; her insides are nearly hanging out of the cut on the side, and she is bleeding... There is so much blood. It’s terrifying," Nan Zhi spoke sobbingly. He raised his hand and wiped the tears from his eyes before saying to Ruan Chanchan, "I know that I treated you rather roughly. But please, I beg you, save my sister’s life. She once saved your life—consider it as repaying an old favour."
Nan Zhi never thought that he would one day be begging in front of Ruan Chanchan like this, but he would rather throw away his pride than watch his sister die in front of him. He didn’t want to lose her. She was the only one who truly cared for him. Even his father and mother didn’t treat him well. These days, without his sister, Nan Zhi felt like he had fallen into an ice cave.
His father didn’t bother with him and paid special attention to the young ones, feeding them all the meat that Nan Zhi exchanged after bringing the herbs back. His father was worried that if his sister didn’t return, then their family would fall back to the position they were in before Nan Wu awakened as a warrior kind.
Thus, his father started paying more attention to his younger siblings who hadn’t awakened in hopes that they would one day awaken as powerful beast warriors. As Nan Zhi had already awakened as a small, clear-sighted owl. Though he had many skills, he was not good at hunting, which made his position rather peculiar in the tribe.
His siblings, who hadn’t awakened, on the other hand, still had hope. So how could his father not depend on them? If Nan Wu died, then Nan Zhi knew that his parents would pour all their attention on his siblings, and as a beast mer, if he didn’t get enough meat, he might end up dying. He couldn’t allow that!
Without his sister, he would not be able to live, and that was not the only reason why he wanted to save the life of his sister. The biggest reason was that Nan Zhi truly cared for her!
Ruan Chanchan pursed her lips. She didn’t say anything to the man in front of her; however, just because she was silent didn’t mean that she was not paying attention to the plight of Nan Wu. Instead, she was discussing the matter with Xiao Xi.
"See this? This is the reason why I told you not to get involved with this tribe. Now what are we going to do?" Ruan Chanchan was a bit worried. She could take care of the poison and parasites in the stomach. They were simple treatments, and she was a novice who could do them without a worry. However, this didn’t sound simple from any angle at all!
"You don’t need to worry about this, Darling," said Xiao Xi as he confidently smiled at Ruan Chanchan. "Just go and take a look at this woman; I will scan her injuries and then bring out the most decent package for you to buy with your goodwill points. Don’t worry; I will make sure that your package will be really cheap, darling!"
Ruan Chanchan didn’t believe Xiao Xi in the slightest, but she still decided to trust him this one time.
"Alright," she said to Nan Zhi, who was already preparing another speech to speak to Ruan Chanchan, paused when he heard Ruan Chanchan say that she was willing to take a look at his sister.
"Are you speaking the truth? Are you really going to take a look at my sister?" Nan Zhi asked, sounding hopeful and ecstatic.
Ruan Chanchan nodded, but she still raised her hands in the air and said to the mer, "But there is no guarantee that I can treat her alright? At most, I can try my best to help you out."
She didn’t want the mer to think that she could save the life of his sister for sure. Ruan Chanchan herself was relying on someone else. How could she let anyone rely on her?
"As long as you can help her," Nan Zhi knew that his sister’s injuries were too severe, so, even though he wished that Ruan Chanchan would miraculously save his sister, he knew that it was too much for him to hope for. After all, he had heard all kinds of rumours about how the victims of the Black Tribe never survived.
It was too much for him to put this kind of pressure on Ruan Chanchan, but what choice did he have?
By the time Ruan Zeqiu heard about Ruan Chanchan coming to see Nan Wu’s injuries, it was too late. Carrying the beast leg on his shoulder, he was so scared that he almost dropped the meat that he was carrying. If he weren’t worried about it getting stolen, he would have totally done it.
"Nan Zhi, you!" Ruan Zeqiu rushed to where the rest of the tribe was and glared at the mer who was the cause of this trouble. Dragging the hind leg behind him, he said to Nan Zhi, "Do you want to see us getting kicked out or something? How dare you drag my sister into this mess?"
Nan Wu was attacked by the Black Snake Tribe warrior; bringing her back to life was equivalent to fighting with death itself. How could Nan Zhi ask his sister to do such a thing?
Nan Zhi shrank his shoulders the second he heard Ruan Zeqiu’s roar. He knew that things were going to become even more problematic now that Ruan Zeqiu was here. He went looking for Ruan Chanchan, thinking that the mer was not in the territory and he would be fine. Who would have expected that Ruan Zeqiu would return just as he convinced Ruan Chanchan?
