Chapter 74: Ruan Chanchan: Something Evil
Ruan Zeqiu didn’t really understand what Priestess Yuan meant by those words, but he still nodded.
His sister... she was meant to make big changes? Really? Though still in disbelief, Ruan Zeqiu was quite pleased upon hearing these words. Of course, she was destined to make big changes; who was Ruan Chanchan? She was his sister! How could she not be made for big things?
Overly pleased, Ruan Zeqiu turned on his feet and headed back to his cave while Priestess Yuan shook her head and returned to the cave. However, as soon as she entered, she saw Yuan Ni sitting in the corner, facing away from the entrance of the cave. Seeing him like this, Priestess Yuan frowned. She questioned, "Why are you looking at the corner of the cave? Did you find the entrance to the Heavens there or something?"
Yuan Ni huffed and glanced at his grandmother. "I wanted to avoid Ruan Chanchan. She came to see me, right? I met with her in the afternoon, and she acted all smug and arrogant as if she couldn’t be bothered to see me. But look, she came to look for me at night."
He paused and added, "I wanted to avoid any sort of ugliness, so I looked away just in case she didn’t get my response."
Priestess Yuan: "..."
"Who said to you that it was Ruan Chanchan who came to see you? She didn’t come. It was her brother, Zeqiu, who came to ask some questions regarding his sister. You also know that Ruan Chanchan is getting better, and Zeqiu doesn’t know how to treat her. So he came to ask a few things from me," Priestess Yuan said to her grandson as she sat down on the floor with a plop. "Don’t give yourself too much credit. Not everyone is going to like you."
Yuan Ni’s expression became subtle.
He didn’t expect his grandmother to say such a thing; for a few seconds, he didn’t understand what kind of expression to make and simply stared at Priestess Yuan before pouting. "Grandmother, am I your grandson or is that Ruan Chanchan your granddaughter? Why do you support her more than you support me? So what if I made a mistake? It’s not like she heard me."
"I would die with my eyes closed if Ruan Chanchan were my granddaughter," Priestess Yuan said savagely. She didn’t hold back as she pointed the hind bone at her grandson and said to him, "She is much better than you at everything, and even if she is not better than you at anything, at least she will not cause any trouble for me. I remember telling you to stay away from Shao Xia. Did you listen to me? No."
Even today, her grandson came smelling like that woman, and Priestess Yuan knew that he had once again gone to look for her. Even though she wanted to stop him, she didn’t. Yuan Ni was not a fool; he was old enough to understand what was wrong and right for him. If he were deliberately ignoring all the wrongs that Shao Xia was doing, then there was nothing that she could do. Unless he was willing to open his eyes and see things carefully.
Yuan Ni blushed in shame. He lowered his head and stated, "But she is kind to me."
"Hah! Even a beast would be kind to me if I fed it three times a day." Priestess Yuan spat the bone from her mouth and stated, "Just wait. You will soon understand why your old grandmother refused to let you get close to that woman. And believe me when I say that you will regret it very much!"
**
On the other hand, Ruan Zeqiu returned to the cave when he returned. He saw his sister putting the fat of the beast on the stone slab and then breaking open a beast egg before pouring the liquid on top of the bubbling oil. He stared at the liquid that had hardened and smelled really good before turning to look at his sister.
"Sister!"
Ruan Chanchan glanced at her brother before snorting and turning to look at the omelette that she was making. It smelled better now that it had been cooked, and the fishy smell was diminishing. This made her feel like she could also eat it without any worries.
Ruan Zeqiu touched his nose and soon realised why his sister was upset with him and immediately reached forward to hug her. He said to her, "Sister, I am sorry. I was just worried since you once tried to steal the holy flame, and we almost got into a lot of trouble. If Chief Xie hadn’t vouched for us, we would be living alone outside with dangers surrounding us from everywhere."
When Ruan Chanchan heard his words, she was quite shocked. She immediately did a quick scan of her memories and was stunned to realise that Ruan Zeqiu was speaking the truth. The foolish host really did try to steal the holy flame. Maybe it was out of her childish curiosity, but she did try to move the holy flame, which caused a lot of trouble in the tribe.
Fortunately, Xie Daiyu caught her and returned the flame safely or else the old Ruan Chanchan would have caused a lot of trouble for her brother. Chief Xie convinced everyone that Ruan Chanchan was a fool and was just curious about the fire, which was why she did it.
Ruan Chanchan, however, didn’t think so. She had a feeling that there was more than that; however, she couldn’t remember anything other than what the foolish host of this body remembered. And as the memory of this body was not good, she didn’t remember anything other than snatching the fire and running out of the territory.
And this was the suspicious point. Why would the host, who had never left the cave, suddenly run to the edge of the cave? Unless someone asked her to come there.
