Chapter 86: Reckless Maid
Jaden finished reading the message and cursed loudly with widened eyes.
"What the fuck?!"
He lowered the camera and looked at the two little orange furballs staring at him with their big blinking eyes... He raised his hand and pointed at them with shaking hands as he murmured.
"These cute little balls of fur are actually B-ranked star beasts...? Is this a joke? All they do is eat faster! Also, why are they being named as hounds by the system? They look like puppies... wait! Are these just infants?"
Jaden fell into his thoughts. Just then, he heard a low sound, which was barely audible, but he was able to hear it clearly due to his enhanced hearing.
"Br..."
He came out of his reverie and looked at the devouring pups; both of them had tear drops glistening across their big eyes. He stood up in panic and, after picking them up, He asked.
"What’s wrong?" he stared at them as if they were supposed to answer him. He clicked his tongue, hid them in his outfit and stepped out of the room as he looked for the servants of the mansion. His eyes soon fell on a maid walking towards the staircase leading to the hall.
He walked towards her with quick steps and called out, "Miss!" The maid stopped in her tracks and looked at him before bowing and asking.
"Dear guest, may I help you with something?"
Jaden parted his lips to ask about the strange behaviour of the devouring pups, but stopped before saying anything.
’I can’t let anyone else know about the pups.’ He decided before asking. "Where is Lady Maria?"
The maid ended her bow and replied with a calm expression.
"Young Lady is not within the mansion at the moment."
Jaden frowned at her words, but he soon thought of another person and questioned.
"What about Jamie?"
"Young master is also not here," she replied.
His frown deepened, he paused for a moment and heaved a sigh.
"What about Maid Amelia? She must be here, right?"
"Yes. Do I call her?" she replied with a slight nod.
"Please do so," Jaden replied as he quickly stepped back inside his room. The maid stared at him before stepping towards the staircase and descending it.
Jaden once again sat on his bed as he caressed the devouring pups with a sweet smile on his face. His eyes, however, were heavy with concern for them.
’What happened to them? And where is this Amelia?’
A frustrated look appeared on his face as he waited for her, and soon a knock was heard at his door.
Jaden quickly stood up from his bed and asked.
"Amelia?"
A weak voice came from the opposite side of the door.
"Y-yes."
’What’s wrong with her?’ He thought of it, but threw them away. ’I need to ask her about the devouring pups.’
"You can come in," he said as he hid the devouring pups behind himself.
The door creaked open as Amelia peeked inside with her bright brown eyes and a slightly scared expression. She pushed further and stepped inside with a strangely meek demeanour.
Jaden looked at her with a bright smile as he spoke.
"It’s great that you are here, Amelia."
Amelia trembled a little as she replied.
"Y-yes."
"Ah! Please close the doors, there’s something I need you for." Jaden added as he rubbed his hands.
"O-okay," Amelia replied before turning around and closing the door.
Jaden looked at her with a serious look as he asked with his arms folded at his chest.
"First... promise me that you won’t tell others about it."
She shivered at his words and replied with a weak nod as she spoke.
"I-i won’t tell anyone."
He smiled at her and pointed at the pups sitting on the bed.
"Come here."
Hearing him, she thought back to the events that had happened a few minutes ago.
Amelia was chatting with her fellow maids. Suddenly, Jia came to her and said.
"Amelia, the guest is calling out to you... He sounded quite desperate."
She raised an eyebrow at Jia’s words, and suddenly, another maid spoke with a dark look. "Hah... It’s happening to us, too..."
Amelia looked at the maid with a frown and questioned. "Huh? What do you mean?"
"Well... You know how nobles’ guests ask their maids to do certain things... You understand what I mean, right?" the other maid responded, at which Amelia’s face went pale as she stuttered.
"I-i am not going then..."
"You have to; otherwise, the master would get a bad reputation among the nobles."
Amelia’s face paled even further as she walked towards Jaden’s room.
"Why did you lie to her?"
"I just wanted to tease her a little, hehe."

Back to the present—
Amelia looked at the velvet bed, and her body began to tremble. She tried to force herself, but her heart refused, beating against her chest like a war drum, and finally she closed her eyes and shouted at him.
"How could you force me to do something like this, Lord Jaden? Just because Lady Maria isn’t here, you think you can take advantage of me? I’d rather die than do that with someone I don’t like. LEAVE ME ALONE!"
She breathed heavily and opened her eyes to look at Jaden, who stood before her with a puzzled look on his face as he asked.
"What are you talking about?"
Her expression turned puzzled as she asked in a low voice.
"You didn’t call me to make me do things for you?"
Jaden’s frown deepened, and his eyes turned sharp as he questioned.
"Why would I call you for something like that?"
Hearing his words, Amelia frowned and mumbled.
"How this could be..."
She began reviewing everything that had happened in the past few minutes in her mind and soon remembered that Jaden or anyone had never said anything like that to her... She simply assumed it was one of those cases the other maid talked about.
She looked at Jaden like a drenched cat on the verge of tears as she muttered.
"I-i am s-sorry!"
