Chapter 118: Chapter 118 (Massage chair Extra Chapter)
"Now, it has been half a year since the Saint’s return, yet the Holy Throne Challenge Trial remains unannounced. If this continues, dissatisfaction among disciples from the various peaks will surely stir unrest," Althea spoke with a measured concern, the quiet urgency behind her words growing.
"As we know, the holy throne is a prize given to those with true ability. Numerous disciples eagerly await the chance to challenge the Saint. Without opening the trial soon, the sect’s peace may fracture."
Lyralei frowned, her eyes narrowing in thought. "Seraphina was gravely wounded in the Spiritual Path Trial, losing three of her protectors. She must recover properly. Forcing her into the Challenge now would be unjust."
Althea pressed on, "But... half a year has passed. Even life-threatening wounds should have nearly mended. The prolonged absence risks discontent and fractures sect unity. Empress, you understand the dangers better than anyone."
Without veiled words, Althea laid the matter bare.
"You came here to bring this issue to me?" Lyralei asked calmly.
"Yes," Althea replied plainly.
"Then you may leave. The sect’s internal affairs are under my control. The Holy Throne Challenge Trial will commence soon," Lyralei assured.
She added, "Seraphina continues her seclusion for recovery. Should you doubt this, feel free to visit and judge for yourself."
Althea nodded silently, cupped her hands, and departed.
Half a month later, the Empress announced the Holy Throne Challenge Trial would begin in seven days.
The news electrified the Azure Origin Dao Sect instantly.
Disciples who had long remained in retreat or obscurity emerged, polishing their skills and preparing eagerly to compete.
Though only one person would ultimately claim the holy throne, many sought the trial as a stage to showcase their talents.
Proving oneself within such a grand arena often secured sect recognition—and unexpectedly fast promotions, perhaps even ascending to direct disciple status from ordinary.
Near the serene shores of Serene Mirror Lake, footsteps echoed upon frosted stones.
Two men walked side by side, catching the eyes of many passing disciples.
One was old, robed in dark cloth, white beard flowing. His posture was upright, steps steady, and spirit bright despite his years.
Beside him strode a young man, handsome and regal as a towering pine swaying against the wind.
His brocade robes gleamed with noble prestige, radiating command and power.
Both figures clearly were no ordinary disciples. Their attire starkly distinguished them from the fashion of Azure Origin Dao Sect’s disciples.
Close enough, whispers seized the air.
"Look! Those two seem strange—do they even belong to our sect?"
"Really odd. The clothing matches no known peak within the Dao Sect. Where could they be from?"
"Could they be spies from rival sects, sent brazenly?"
"No, that’s absurd. Spies don’t risk open visibility like that."
"Perhaps they are ambassadors from other sects, here for some deal."
"Disciples do communicate — haven’t you heard? This is common."
"Enough speculation. If you’re so curious, approach and ask. There’s no shame in seeking answers."
The crowd buzzed with lively debate.
Suddenly, a clear voice cut through.
"Senior Sister Liana!"
Heads turned to see Liana emerge, her silver hair cascading like moonlight and robes flowing like clouds.
The usual disciple chatter hushed in her presence.
"Senior Sister Liana, we’re heading to the tomb," one disciple said softly.
"Whenever she visits Serene Mirror Lake, she always seeks out Ethan." Another chimed.
The proximity of Ethan and Liana was well known in these parts.
The young man caught sight of her straight ahead, his expression shifting; a rare flicker of surprise touched his eyes.
Even a seasoned man who had seen many beauties could not dismiss her grace.
"Who is this young man?" Liana blinked, scanning him curiously.
He appeared strange, oddly dressed and unfamiliar—certainly not a disciple known to the Azure Origin Dao Sect.
He said nothing at first but suddenly grabbed Liana’s arm.
After a brief shake of his head, he muttered.
"Excellent bones, exceptional talent, but lacking special physique. Her affinity is with fire-element cultivation."
Liana froze, breaking free quickly, suspicion mounting.
"Who are you? Do we know each other?"
Her eyes narrowed, anger barely repressed.
"Woman, watch your tone!" the old man beside the youth growled.
"Should I mind my tone? You should control your manners!" Liana snapped back.
Her sharp rebuke drew a ripple of shock from surrounding disciples.
Clearly, the two strangers had arrived with hostile intent, threatening the sanctity of the Dao Sect.
The growing tension summoned dozens of disciples who hastened to surround the newcomer and the elder.
"Huh?" The young man raised an eyebrow, amused.
"A band of rabble, trying to be heroes saving a beauty?" His tone dripped with disdain.
At his arrogance, many disciples’ expressions soured dramatically.
Even Ethan had never been so brash after his rise to fame.
"Who the hell are you?" someone shouted fiercely.
The old man moved to retaliate but was restrained by the youth.
"Mr. Willow, no need for combat," the elder said, shaking his head quietly before disappearing.
The disciples cast puzzled glances, eyes searching for the unseen assailant.
Suddenly, Liana’s voice rang out sharply.
"Retreat! Quickly!"
Before her sentence ended, the youth had appeared beside the disciple who questioned him.
Without warning, he seized the disciple’s throat with one hand, lifting him off the ground.
The disciple thrashed, face flushing purple as he fought for breath, summoning spiritual power to resist.
Yet, a violent force overwhelmed him, tearing through his body and meridians.
Blood sprayed freely from his nose and mouth.
With a sharp snap, his neck broke.
The body dropped lifelessly like a deflated rubber ball.
"Are all disciples in the Azure Origin Dao Sect worthless?"
The man sneered. "You claim first-class status, but..." He spat on the ground, scorn thick in his voice. "This is laughable."
With final contempt, he kicked the corpse aside, turning to face the crowd.
