Chapter 23: Chapter 23
Triton’s POV
"My favourite brother," Lucy squealed in a bubbly voice. She pushed me aside and entered inside, as though the room was what she came to see.
"Father has been trying to get to you. He thinks you don’t want to see him." She was now seated on my bed, running her hand through the sheets and scattering what I had just arranged.
Lucy was my sister, younger than me by five years and always had her way of annoying me.
She stood up from the bed and walked to the shelves by the corner, pulling out their contents.
"You don’t have any snacks in here," She sighed, before returning to the bed.
"If father sent you to convince me to see him, tell him I’m not going."
"He didn’t,"
I gave her a firm stare with a raised brow, obviously knowing that she was lying.
"Fine, he told me to convince you," She confessed. "What has father done to you? Why don’t you want to see him?"
I scoffed at her statement. She was the only girl among three of his children. She had only seen the soft side of my father, and she knew nothing more of him.
"Go back and tell him I’m coming."
"Really? You’re going to come?" She asked in a surprised tone.
I nodded my head in affirmation. She wore a smile on her face before walking towards the door. She ended up pausing midway and turned towards me.
"There’s this guy I’m seeing. We’d get married soon." Her voice was full of excitement and I smiled, even though I knew the relationship had a huge chance of not working.
She went on to feed me details about the man and I half listened to her. I knew Lily to be extremely picky. She had rejected her mate, because he was too short, and had also rejected relationship offers from other guys because of some silly reason.
"He sounds promising," I chipped into her story at some point.
"I should be leaving. He’s waiting for me outside."
"You came here with him?" I asked as she adjusted her shoes.
"Yes," She said, before leaving my room.
I reclined in the bamboo chair in my room. My wolf Leo had been restless all day. He was forcing himself to take control and run wild in search of our mate. He was also angry with me for rejecting her. When I first encountered my mate, he kept forcing himself to mark her, but I held him down. Clara was still on my mind. Now, both women are gone, Clara and my mate.
I let my wolf take control, but only to mindlink my beta. I wanted to know if there was any news about my mate. Sam arrived in a short moment. His expression seemed hopeless, and before he said anything, I already knew the search was futile.
"I can’t find any women matching your description, not even the eye color. Only 2 women have hazel eyes." He paused for a short moment.
"Continue,"
"One of them is a grandmother."
I raised my brows, almost choking on my saliva. That was unexpected.
He continued. "And the other is fat, not fitting your slender description."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves, trying to calm my wolf as well. But Leo refused to be calmed. He forcefully took control of my body, snapping my cloth out of place until I was in my wolf form. The next thing that occurred was a loud howl, filled with the pain of losing my mate.
When I was done, I fell to the ground, transforming back to my human form, naked and exposed. My breathing was ragged and I knew Leo was extremely distressed to have taken control of my body in such a manner.
"Triton, it’s going to be okay. We would find her," Sam said as he crouched down to my level on the floor with my clothes in his hands.
I slipped into my long pants and wore a loose shirt. Beads of sweat surrounded my forehead and face.
"Have you received any letters from the rogue king?" I asked as I cleaned my face with a cloth.
"Not even one."
"I wonder if he’s playing with me. I can’t keep on shielding him if he’s being so stubborn." I spat in annoyance.
"Perhaps you should pay him a visit." Sam suggested.
"Let’s give him one more week. If he doesn’t respond to my letters, I’d take action."
"Fair enough." Sam said in response. "By the way, I saw Lucy leave as I was coming in."
"She came with news about my stupid father. I wonder what the old man wants this time." I said in a voice filled with disgust. I took out a scroll from my drawer and sat in the chair.
Inside the scroll were lots of writing about my pack rules. My father gave it to me on my 20th birthday, the same day my brother was thrown out. It had been with me for years. Why did I feel like my brother being thrown out of the pack was a setup by my father?
I grew up in the pack by the north, also called Lycanthia. I needed to return back soon as I had important matters to attend to. But first, my mate should give me a sign that she was out here.
"I would go to meet my father tomorrow," I told Sam.
Sam’s reaction was mixed and I could see that he was taken aback. "I thought you swore never to meet him."
"Something came up, and he’s the only one who knows the answer. The same way he only wants to meet me when he needs something is the same way I’d meet him now that I need something from him."
"We should start making arrangements then."
"Yes. We leave for the north by tomorrow."
Sam nodded his head and left the room. Before he left, he handed me the list of the women with hazel eyes, just in case I still wanted to meet them. It would be of no use because my mate wasn’t a grandmother, neither was she fat.
I fondled with my beards as I was lost in deep thoughts. Would I ever find her?
