Chapter 20: Chapter 20
"Oh my gosh! Oh goddess!" Laura screamed as she tried to make her way into the room.
She had just seen Maria move her body from underneath the blanket. Her eyes got glassy with tears as she felt the joy of her daughter trying to recover.
Laura pushed open the room door and walked inside. Reynolds stood outside the door, also wanting to enter. Mozart stopped what she was reciting and turned towards them.
"You’re distracting me. If you keep shouting and trying to come inside the room, I won’t be able to concentrate."
"I’m so sorry," Laura apologized and walked out of the room. She shut the door behind her and went back to her place at the window, where she was watching everything that Mozart was doing.
Laura felt a thick hand on her shoulder. It was Reynolds who was standing behind her and placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Mozart resumed reciting the spells. The candles flickered as she spoke and Maria’s body kept twitching under the blanket. Laura tried to resist the urge to scream, but she was feeling excited and couldn’t hide the excitement.
"Our daughter would soon be awake," Reynolds said to Laura.
Mozart continued closing her eyes and reciting the mantra. Suddenly, as if an unseen force pulled it, the blanket which covered Maria’s body was pulled off. Mozart stopped what she was doing and was perplexed as she saw the blanket come off her body.
Maria began shaking uncontrollably like one that was having a convulsion. But her eyes were still closed and she was still unconscious.
"What’s happening?" Laura screamed from outside the room, and Reynolds also had a perplexed look on his face.
Also, a strong gust of wind blew through the room, putting off the candles and sending the room into a dark state.
"Mozart! What’s going on?" Laura screamed on the top of her voice as she was scared of seeing Laura shaking uncontrollably.
Laura moved to the door to open it and enter into the room. But as soon as she pulled the door open and was ready to step inside, a strong wind blew in her direction, making the door shut.
Laura continued twisting the doorknob, but nothing seemed to be working.
"Open the door," Laura shouted from outside the room.
"Open it," Reynolds also added.
"It’s not my fault. I didn’t lock it." Mozart responded as she was also shocked of why her powers were backfiring on her.
Laura paced around the room in a worried manner and continued looking into the window to see what was happening. Maria jerked violently and had fallen off the bed to the ground. The Luna screamed loudly, and her screams alerted some of the pack members.
The guards rushed towards her, asking what the problem was. They also tried to open the door, but it was stuck. Mozart looked around the room in confusion, unsure of what to do. She tried many spells, but it seemed as if nothing was happening.
"Mozart, open the door of the room." Reynolds shouted.
"I’m trying, but nothing is working." Mozart said in a panic filled voice.
Laura leans on the door, pushing it severally, together with the guards who were trying to help. Finally, the door opened and Laura fell into the room on the floor.
Reynolds reached towards his wife and helped her to her feet.
Laura rushed to Maria who was on the floor and supported her in her arms. Maria was still unconscious and shaking vigorously. Blood was coming out of her nose and Mozart was confused, not knowing where the problem came from.
"What happened to her?" Laura questioned as she stood up from where she was leaning by Maria’s side.
"I don’t know. It seems like something went wrong with my spells."
"If you didn’t know what to do, then you should have simply told us." Laura continued to scold her. "Were you trying to kill her? I always knew witches could not be trusted."
"I didn’t have any bad intentions. It’s just that..."
"Just leave, you’ve caused enough damage." Laura said angrily.
"But I can still try again and help." Mozart said in a gentle voice, despite the fact that Laura was shouting at her.
"I said leave!" Laura’s voice came out louder this time.
"Let her just try a second time." Reynolds placed a hand on his wife’s shoulder, trying to calm her down.
"She shouldn’t. Can’t you see that Maria is bleeding? The witch has only made matters worse."
"I’ll leave, but make sure you don’t call me again." Mozart said as she walked towards the door. "I won’t return here a second time."
With that last statement, she left the packhouse. Reynolds squatted towards Laura’s level and carried her from the floor to the bed.
Laura took a cloth and cleaned the blood which was running down Maria’s nose.
"We need to call the physician." She said as she looked at her daughter who looked paler than before.
Message was sent to the physician, requesting his presence. He arrived in the packhouse in less than an hour and headed towards Maria’s room.
He took out his tools and began assessing Maria’s unconscious body. Then he professionally cleaned the blood which was running down her nose and put a gauze over the wounded area.
"What happened to her?" The physician asked as he addressed the alpha and Luna.
"We tried to get help, but it only made things worse."
"Worse?" The physician whose name was Adam chuckled. "She seems to be getting better and may recover in a few days." Adam paused for a while to scratch his beard before continuing. "I’d advise that you should continue whatever treatment method you used on her."
Laura’s eyes widened in surprise as she processed Adam’s word.
"Does this mean we should get the witch to return back?" She whispered to Reynolds and he shrugged his shoulders as if telling her that he already warned her about sending Mozart away.
"By the way, what treatment did you use on her?" Adams asked.
Laura ignored his questions. Her head was filled with thoughts as she regretted sending Mozart away. Now, she had to bring her back, but Mozart had already sworn not to return.
"How would I convince her?"
