Chapter 477 Finally Back in Mingcheng
Ye Shenge had a restless night, but at least she could sit up. When her son woke up in the morning, he crawled onto his mother without a fuss.
"Awake now, does your throat still hurt a lot?"
"Mmm."
Just hearing the sound, one could tell it hurt terribly, likely damaging her vocal cords.
Zi Yisheng poured his wife a glass of warm water and slowly fed it to her. Seeing her wince in pain with every swallow made his heart ache.
Noticing his son monopolizing his wife, Zi Yisheng picked up his son and tossed him into the adjacent room. His son was never as obedient as his daughter; why did he seem so irritating?
"You're mean, you're a bad person, I want Mommy."
Ye's mother didn't know what was happening when her grandson was placed in her arms, causing quite a stir with his father.
"How did you bully Xiao Youyou? You just got back, shouldn't you be bonding with your son?"
Zi Yisheng listened to his mother-in-law's scolding, but his gaze was still locked in a standoff with his son.
"He needs to eat, and I was afraid he would disturb Shengge's rest."
"Oh, that's true. Xiao Youyou, don't disturb Mommy's rest. Mommy is very weak right now and needs to recuperate well."
"Grandma, I didn't disturb Mommy. I lay obediently next to Mommy, keeping her company."
Now, Xiao Youyou's speech was no longer as fluid as a two-year-old's; he could argue with you.
"Is that so? Then, Xiao Youyou, will you go find Mommy after you've eaten?"
"Okay, Daddy, go away."
Zi Yisheng shot his son a glare and left. Ye's mother, seeing the father and son, who hadn't seen each other for almost a year, start bickering on the second day, was speechless.
Zi Yisheng returned to the private room and was glared at by his wife, but no matter how she glared, he found her gaze beautiful. Zi Yisheng closed the door, leaned by his wife's bedside, and pressed his face against hers.
"Wife, I missed you so much. I truly thought I was going to lose you. You need to get better quickly and spend your life with me."
"Mmm."
Ye Shenge raised her hand and stroked Zi Yisheng's hair. She had been scared when her neck was grabbed and she couldn't break free, afraid she wouldn't be able to stay with her family and loved ones.
"From now on, when we return to Mingcheng, we will never be separated again. Even if I have to travel for work, I'll take you with me."
This man, really, what kind of leader brings his wife on business trips? It would damage his image if word got out.
"Do you know? Our daughter is truly beautiful, though still a little less so than you."
Would you dare say that to her face when she's older?
"It's just that our son is a bit disobedient; he even dared to glare at me just now."
Ye Shenge reached out and pinched Zi Yisheng's ear. This man was acting like he wasn't a father, bickering with his child.
"Ouch, wife, you don't like me anymore? I knew my place in your heart wasn't as important as that brat's."
Ye Shenge rolled her eyes in exasperation. This man was becoming more childish. She could imagine how chaotic their home would be in the future.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Zi Yisheng pouted and kissed his wife before going to open it.
"I'm here to see Shengge."
"Master, please come in quickly. Shengge's throat still hurts a lot."
"Of course, it hurts. She was almost choked to death. Don't expect her to speak for at least a month."
Elder Fan and Elder Dang saw their junior disciple and completely changed their attitude towards Zi Yisheng. Both smiled and sat by the bed.
Zi Yisheng, seeing that his daughter was also a hindrance, picked her up and carried her to the next room, not forgetting to bring her diapers. This time, it was Grandma Bai who received the child. After Zi Yisheng left, Grandma Bai and Ye's mother exchanged a look, unsure whether to be angry or amused.
"He's still the same. It's good that she's back with her life. We'll nurse her slowly; no need to rush."
Ye Shenge smiled and blinked her eyes. She wasn't in a hurry; she wasn't an impatient person to begin with.
"I'll ask Aunt Zhen to make Shengge a bowl of thin noodles. Eating porridge all the time isn't filling."
"She can eat it, but it needs to be cooked very soft. The medicine is also being prepared; she still needs to take it properly later."
Ye Shenge nodded and watched her two masters leave. She still lacked energy and got tired after sitting for a while. Zi Yisheng helped his wife lie down and poured some water into a basin to wipe her hands and face. He even carefully took out his wife's skincare products and applied them little by little; his wife was quite vain.
Finally, he heated a towel, wrung out the water, and placed it on his wife's neck. After four or five applications, Ye Shenge felt her neck was a little more comfortable.
"Master said he'll make you a medicinal paste when we get back. A few days of application will help with blood circulation and reduce swelling."
"Mmm."
"Wife, you don't have to answer me, I just want to talk to you."
Ye Shenge smiled and blinked her eyes. In reality, she had already drunk a lot of water from the spatial well, so she would recover much faster.
While Ye Shenge was listening to Zi Yisheng's rambling, there was another knock on the door. Zi Yisheng opened the door with an impatient expression.
"Young Master Zi, there's a telegram for you."
Ouyang handed him a piece of paper and smiled at Ye Shenge.
"Madam, are you feeling any better?"
Ye Shenge nodded. Why did she feel that Ouyang was being more polite now? Before, he used to call her Shengge directly.
"Tangtang was fussing to come over earlier, but I didn't let her. She's still upset with me now."
"Have the people outside guard the area. For the next few days, no one should disturb Madam's rest."
"Yes."
Zi Yisheng casually tore up the telegram, his expression grave.
"Reply, and arrest all members of the Shang family with full force."
"Yes, Madam, I'll take my leave."
After Zi Yisheng closed the door, Ye Shenge pointed at Ouyang. Zi Yisheng thought for a moment and didn't understand his wife's intention.
"You want to see Chen Tangtang?"
Ye Shenge looked up and held Zi Yisheng's hand, writing on his palm.
Zi Yisheng smiled when he saw his wife's question.
"It's because your husband got promoted again, so it's the protocol. You might encounter more situations like this in the future."
Ye Shenge nodded and gave Zi Yisheng a thumbs-up. How much higher could his promotion go? She couldn't imagine.
Ye Shenge suddenly seemed to recall something and wrote again. Zi Yisheng raised an eyebrow when he saw it.
"You want to start a business in the future?"
Ye Shenge wrote that she would definitely start a business.
"Then that's fine. It might be inconvenient for you, but you can give the money to our mother to help you make money."
Zi Yisheng never expected his mother-in-law to want to start a business.
"How did you know that private businesses would be possible in the future?"
Ye Shenge smiled and wrote: Because I trust you!
Such sweet words. Zi Yisheng, feeling pleased, took the opportunity to kiss his wife again.
"Yes, I'm working hard in that direction. It might still take a year or two."
Ye Shenge blinked. She believed it would be sooner.
"I might affect your future interests and aspirations. Will you be unhappy?"
Ye Shenge shook her head. She didn't have many interests or aspirations to begin with, except for making medicine, but she could teach her mother or the Bai family, and she could focus on research and development.
"Thank you, wife. When I retire early, I'll travel around with you."
Ye Shenge hugged Zi Yisheng. They didn't need to say thank you to each other; companionship was the best reward.
Aunt Zhen finally brought the food. Seeing Ye Shenge able to sit up, she burst into tears. She had been truly terrified.
"It's good that you're okay. Shengge, eat quickly. You don't know how the kitchen chefs were fighting with me to cook. I insisted that my madam only liked my cooking, and then they let go."
Ye Shenge smiled and nodded. She had truly gotten used to Aunt Zhen's cooking.
Zi Yisheng held the bowl and fed her the soft-cooked noodles spoonful by spoonful. Aunt Zhen watched the affectionate couple and smiled as she closed the door. She hadn't seen the two children yet today; she missed them terribly after not seeing them for a while.
To her surprise, when she arrived in the adjacent room, she found Xiao Youyou sitting on the bed with a pout, refusing to speak, turning his face towards the window, as if telling everyone to leave him alone.
Little Mi'er was still asleep, her little mouth occasionally moving. This child was very well-behaved, much more obedient than Ouyang's youngest.
"Xiao Youyou, Aunt Zhen will take you for a walk, okay?"
This carriage compartment was all their people, so there was no danger.
Even when Xiao Youyou was angry, he was still a child. The moment he was asked to go for a walk, he turned his head.
"Can I?"
"Of course, you can. You can go see Xiao Hehe; he probably hasn't woken up yet."
Ouyang He was a little fatty who loved to sleep late, often competing with his mother in who could sleep longer.
Xiao Youyou's eyes lit up when he heard that. He clearly hadn't played properly with Xiao Hehe for the past two days.
"Grandma, Great-Grandma, I'm going to play now."
"Okay, Xiao Youyou, don't run around."
"Okay."
The little guy put on his shoes and took Aunt Zhen's hand, not forgetting to wave back at his grandmothers.
"This child is smart and polite. You can tell he's different from ordinary children."
"We just wish for our children to live healthy and happy lives. I don't ask for anything else. Tell me, what else do they lack? Their father is capable, and their mother earns money. In the future, they just need to develop in directions that interest them."
"Yes, children born into our two families lack nothing. I think Zi boy must have made complete arrangements for bringing us back this time. Perhaps I'll see your fourth uncle soon."
Ye's mother stood up and massaged Grandma Bai's shoulders. She had truly integrated into this family over the years.
"Don't worry, Mom. Even if you don't say it, Zi Yisheng will think of it for us."
"Yes, I wonder if Mu En has lost weight from exhaustion and when he'll find a wife. When I go back this time, I'll arrange the marriages for all the young men in the family. I'm afraid I won't live to see it."
"What are you saying? You're in good health. Look at my dad; he's getting younger as he lives. You need to stay well with him."
Three days passed quickly. As soon as they got off the train, everyone followed Zi Yisheng into the large compound. There were guards checking at the entrance and exit, so security was completely ensured.
There were too many of them, and before the danger was completely eliminated, they all had to live here. Therefore, Zi Yisheng applied for two more houses, adjacent to each other, so they could visit daily.
Ye Shenge, Ye's mother, Aunt Zhen, and the two masters, along with Xiao Tiantian, Mo Lin, and Min Xing, lived in one house. This would also be Ye Shenge's permanent home, a two-story house with a large courtyard. Each floor had four rooms, which could accommodate them.
As soon as Zi Yisheng left, Ye Shenge got out of bed, locked the door, and entered the spatial realm. She wanted to take a proper bath; her hair even felt like it smelled. Ye Shenge was once again deprived of the right to take a bath. Heart disease patients were warned against prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Even with a shower, Ye Shenge had to use a chair to wash.
Even so, she had to drink water from the well twice during her shower to feel like she could endure it. After drying her hair, Ye Shenge lay down in the spatial realm and slept soundly until Ye's mother knocked on the door, waking her up.
As soon as Ye's mother entered the room, she smelled the familiar shampoo. She glared at her daughter.
"You're so fussy. If you actually cause trouble, see how you suffer."
Ye Shenge couldn't speak anyway, so she let her mother scold her freely.
"I just received a call from your father. He said he's in another province and won't be back for at least a year. He also said your brother has gone to the battlefield. I'm so worried."
Ye Shenge was also worried, but she believed her elder brother was lucky to be alive; otherwise, wouldn't their family of four have transmigrated for nothing?
"I think I might have to go find your father later. I wouldn't be at ease leaving you alone."
Ye Shenge knew that Zi Yisheng had deliberately arranged for her father to be far from Mingcheng, but sooner or later, he would bring him back.
However, Ye Shenge was mistaken. Zi Yisheng had absolutely done it on purpose, because once her father returned to Mingcheng, he would be living in the same compound as them, and wouldn't they pester his wife every day?
It was only many years later that Ye Shenge discovered this situation, and she decisively chose to leave home for the first time.
As soon as Elders Fan and Dang returned, they arranged for the necessary medicinal herbs for their junior disciple's recuperation. Poor Little Mi'er also had to be weaned prematurely after two months of her mother taking medicine daily. The little girl was stubborn and cried for three days, eating and drinking only a small amount of formula each day before finally succumbing to hunger.
Zi Yisheng felt both pained and helpless for his daughter. Every day after work, he would hold his daughter and go upstairs to accompany his wife. He had already engaged in several battles with Xiao Youyou, making him cry every day before he was satisfied.
Finally, Ye's mother couldn't stand it anymore. Whenever the scoundrel of a father came home, she would take her grandson to the Bai family for meals. Ye Shenge was also unhappy when she found out. While Zi Yisheng was at work, she wrote a lengthy complaint of three thousand words and stated that if he treated her son badly, she would take their son to live with the Bai family.
In the end, Zi Yisheng naturally compromised. However, Xiao Youyou held a grudge. He deliberately placed a live earthworm in his father's shoes and poured a lot of sugar into his father's teacup.
Thus, the "grudge" between the two was irreconcilable, but both were smart enough never to reveal any of it in front of their mother (wife). They both dealt with it privately.
While Ye Shenge was recovering at home, many family members living in the same compound wanted to visit the young leader's wife. However, Ah Can stopped them all, saying that Leader Zi had instructed that she should not be disturbed.
This earned Zi Yisheng a reputation as a loving husband who doted on his wife. Meanwhile, Min Xing, who was pushed around by Mo Lin for walks every day, became the target of the family members' advances, with many trying to introduce him to potential partners.
Of course, there were also the Bai family brothers, as they were relatives of Leader Zi's family. This scared the young men in the family so much that they didn't dare to step out of the house. One by one, they complained at home that life wasn't as free and comfortable as it was in the village.
Ye Shenge could finally speak after half a month. Her voice was still hoarse. According to Elder Fan, she would need to take good care of herself to regain her former soft and sweet voice, or it would remain slightly hoarse.
Actually, Ye Shenge didn't really like her old voice; it always felt a bit unfitting for her current age. A slightly hoarse voice was quite sexy.
