Chapter 226 Iced Watermelon Juice
Ye Shenggo quickly waved her hand and walked back. She couldn't stop elders from disciplining children, but she could provide some supplies. After all, she had so much in her space, why not make everyone's lives a little easier?
Ye Shenggo walked home under the scorching sun, ate a few bites of food, and went back to her room to enter her space. She took two large watermelons from the storage and quickly juiced them in a juicer. She then put them in the refrigerator to chill.
Ye Ma didn't have to tend to the sheep in the afternoon. She cooperated with her daughter, even arranging for someone to see her go out for a while. In reality, she just found a cool spot to sit for a bit.
Ye Shenggo and Ye Ma, working together, were secretly chuckling at home. Each carrying a bucket, they headed towards the fields of the two families.
"Dad, Eldest Brother, Brother Zi, come and have some water."
Ye Shenggo's sweet and soft voice echoed from the field, drawing everyone's attention. Zi Yisheng and Ye Mu'en quickly dropped their sickles and ran over.
Ah Can and the others, without needing to be called, also ran over. Only Ye Dad walked slowly, observing the villagers' reactions as he went.
"Why are you here again? Look at the sweat on your head."
Zi Yisheng picked up the towel around his neck and wiped the little girl's face first.
This made Ye Shenggo quite disgusted.
"Your towel is full of sweat, and you're wiping it on my face."
Ye Mu'en also glared at Zi Yisheng with disgust. He was the first to pour a bowl of watermelon juice and knew from the first sip that this was watermelon from his sister's space.
"Mom bought watermelon in town?"
Ye Shenggo nodded with a smile. It felt so good to have her family watch out for her. She took a bowl from the basket, filled it to the brim, and took it to Ye Dad, who was behind her.
"Dad, quickly cool off."
Zi Yisheng was jealous, very jealous. He thought the little girl was serving him.
Ye Dad's eyes crinkled into a smile. See, his daughter still cared about him. Everyone else could step aside.
The villagers working in the field looked at the Ye family with envy. At the same time, they were noticed by the educated youths who had been assigned near the Ye family's vicinity that day.
"Dandan, the new people in the village look very strong."
"What? Do you want to find someone to help you with work again?"
Liu Dandan rolled her eyes at Zhao Ling, truly proving that old habits die hard.
Zhao Ling stared at Ah Can and the others, as if evaluating them.
"It's their honor to help me with work. Didn't you see how the villagers can't take their eyes off us when they see us? These men will be the same, they're all villagers."
Liu Dandan looked at the tall, well-built man. He didn't look like a villager at all.
"No matter who you find to work for you, don't let them come to our doorstep and scold us again. We don't want to be disgraced along with you."
Zhao Ling's sore spot was hit, and her face immediately turned ugly.
"What disgrace am I causing? Did I ask those people to help me work? They're the ones who shamelessly came forward."
The other educated youths didn't say anything. They didn't have the ability to find people to work for them. They'd rather spend their time working more to get more grain.
Regardless of what others thought, Zhao Ling simply couldn't stand working under the scorching sun anymore. After thinking for a moment, she threw down her sickle and walked towards the edge of the field.
Ye Shenggo was also sipping her special small cup slowly. She hadn't even had time to drink it at home.
Zi Yisheng whispered sweet nothings to the little girl as he drank.
"Comrade, are you guys drinking water? Can I have a cup?"
A woman's voice, speaking in a pinched tone, made the few people who were enjoying the cool drink shiver. Ah Long, standing at the very edge, turned to look and quickly stepped away. He was a germaphobe, and as soon as this woman approached, he smelled the stench of sweat.
No one on the scene paid any attention to Zhao Ling. Ye Shenggo was sitting under a tree and was blocked from view. She curiously peeked through the gap to watch the show.
Zi Yisheng amusedly ruffled the little girl's hair and stood up.
"Hurry back, go back and rest well. We're still planning to take you fishing tonight."
Ye Shenggo's eyes lit up at this. Ye Mu'en also put his bowl back into the basket.
"Let's go back. It's too hot. Don't drink too much cold stuff when you get back."
Ye Mu'en was the first to leave, without looking at Zhao Ling at all.
Zhao Ling stared at Ye Mu'en, her eyes fixed on him. She had completely forgotten her earlier embarrassment. It was the first time she had seen such a tall, strong, and handsome man.
"Hey, comrade, I'm an educated youth from the countryside. Can you give me a bowl of water? I'm really thirsty."
The remaining people also quickly left. Zi Yisheng pulled the little girl up and handed her the water bucket and the basket.
Zhao Ling watched everyone leave and was so angry she could have bitten her teeth off.
She then saw a girl of breathtaking beauty and immediately felt a pang of jealousy. But thinking that this girl must be a family member, she decided to try to get close to her.
Zhao Ling hid the jealousy in her eyes, put on a smile, and immediately walked towards Ye Shenggo.
"Little sister, can I have a cup of water?"
Ye Shenggo smiled apologetically.
"Sorry, it's all been drunk."
This was true. A bucket of watermelon juice wasn't enough for a group of big men. Two bowls per person weren't even enough, and the bucket was completely empty.
Zhao Ling's embarrassed expression was hard to control. Today was clearly not her day.
Ye Shenggo bypassed her and left. She didn't want to be bothered by someone whose intentions were written all over her face.
"Hey, don't go, I don't even know your name yet."
Zhao Ling reached out and grabbed Ye Shenggo's arm, quite forcefully.
Ye Shenggo disliked being touched, and the pain on her arm made her frown slightly. She used her body to break free from the other's hand.
"Comrade, if you turn right for a hundred meters, there's a well. Drink your fill if you're thirsty. It's no use bothering me."
Ye Shenggo hurried away. It was such a waste of time. It was truly not as quiet in the village as it was in the city.
Zhao Ling looked at Ye Shenggo's receding back and spat fiercely on the ground.
"What kind of person is she? Still a country bumpkin."
Ye Ma had also returned. Bai Yuanhao, who had just had some iced watermelon juice, almost hugged his aunt and cried.
After Ye Shenggo returned, she went back to the room with her mother. They locked the door and indulged in snacks and cold drinks.
Ye Ma drank half a cup of iced fruit juice in one go before she felt alive again.
"The weather here is really unbearable. It's not as comfortable as living in a place with distinct seasons."
Ye Shenggo kept peeling mangosteens, her mouth full.
"It's too hot, with no fans or air conditioning. The hot season is too long, it's really uncomfortable."
Ye Ma looked at the scorching sun outside and felt scared. There wasn't even a shady spot to escape the sun when she went out.
"We came here with nothing. If we were ordinary people, it would be fine. But now, with money and supplies, our lives should be good. But can we even get through this?"
Ye Shenggo wasn't too worried. Her father was a meticulous person, and he wouldn't have chosen to come to Bai Rong Township unless everything was arranged.
