Chapter 138 Ye Dad is Disliked
Party Elder, standing nearby, quite liked Ye Shengge's current demeanor. A girl should be lively to be endearing.
"Miss Ye, I have many ancient books of such eccentric theories. Would you like to take a look?"
"Yes, Elder Party, please lend them to me."
Ye Shengge was in dire need of books. She hoped to find something like a toxicology text, vowing to become the most formidable poison master.
In truth, Ye Shengge had read too many novels; poison masters didn't really exist, it was all her own fantasy.
"Alright, as long as Miss Ye likes them, I'll have my daughter bring them over. It would be a shame for them to gather dust at home. However, after you experiment, tell me about the effects and symptoms."
"Elder Party, please just call me by my name. If you're willing to lend me books, there's no need to be so polite."
Elder Fan watched the two of them interact as intimately as master and disciple and immediately felt displeased. Was this Elder Party fellow trying to snatch his disciple?
"Hmph, as if I don't have any. My dear disciple, tomorrow I will personally take you to my private collection to get books and let you read to your heart's content."
Elder Party shook his head with a chuckle. They were old men, yet they acted like children, jealous. Truly shameless.
Ye Shengge was delighted that her master approved of her 'unconventional' pursuits. She was even more eager to find experimental subjects, as no matter how much medicinal powder she made, she couldn't ascertain its actual effects.
Zi Yisheng, while unaware of what transpired in Ye Shengge's room, was privy to everything else in the household. Upon hearing that the little girl not only needed medical books but also experimental subjects, he acted silently.
Thus, on the evening of the next day, Ye Shengge found herself staring blankly at the man thrown at her feet by A Can.
"Miss Ye, please feel free to test your medicine on him. This person will stay here to assist you recently."
A Can said it casually, but Ye Shengge was timid. She had originally planned to go to school and see who was badmouthing her to administer some punishment. But to casually throw a man with whom she had no enmity at her was another matter. She couldn't bring herself to do it.
"Miss Ye, you have no idea how beastly this man is. He specializes in harming young girls and even abused his own mother at home. Don't you think he deserves some punishment?"
Ye Shengge nodded quickly. She felt her medicinal powder wasn't potent enough and she needed to make more tormenting concoctions.
"We'll experiment with one today, and try another medicine tomorrow."
A Can secretly wiped the sweat from his brow. It wasn't easy for him, having to persuade Miss Ye to agree to use a person, and yet he couldn't choose someone too wicked, lest he frighten Young Master Zi's little girl.
Ye Shengge asked A Can to take the man to the small storage room behind the villa, so as not to disturb the family.
Ye Shengge, wearing disposable gloves, sprinkled one-third of the medicinal powder on the man to observe the effects of different dosages.
In less than three minutes, the man on the ground, who had been in a stupor, writhed like an earthworm but remained unconscious.
After about twenty minutes, the effects wore off. Ye Shengge was somewhat dissatisfied with the medicinal powder in her hand; the duration was too short, and the level of suffering wasn't enough, as the man hadn't even woken up.
Ye Shengge then sprinkled the remaining two-thirds of the powder on him. This time, it took less than a minute for a reaction, and the man woke up in agony. He was even stunned by Ye Shengge's appearance, thinking he had seen a fairy in his dream.
But before he could speak, he was overwhelmed by an unbearable itching sensation. His hands and feet were bound, and he couldn't scratch. He could only writhe madly on the ground, his body acting on instinct.
Within ten minutes, the man let out a scream, and his body was covered in bloodstains. Ye Shengge kept an eye on the time. Mother Ye knew of her daughter's activities and had specifically moved a chair to the side to fan her daughter, fearing she might suffer heatstroke in the small, dilapidated room.
This time, Ye Shengge was relatively satisfied; it could last for at least an hour. Looking at the sweat on her mother's body, she felt that even if she needed to know the specific effects of the medicine, she shouldn't exhaust herself and her mother.
Unceremoniously, Ye Shengge took another packet of medicine and handed it to A Can. She wanted to go back and eat fruit.
Elder Party also stayed in Ye Shengge's room to ask for some delicious food and offered some guidance on the dosage of the medicine. This greatly annoyed Elder Fan, who also kept crowding in.
Mother Ye was gratified to see her daughter much more lively. She desired nothing more than for her child to live happily and healthily. Thus, she was content with her current life, much happier than when she used to earn a lot of money.
Ye Dad finally arrived in Qi City after two days and one night on the train. To avoid attracting attention, he hadn't notified anyone. He carried his large duffel bag and walked to his daughter's current residence. When he knocked on the door, everyone mistook him for a vagrant.
"I'm looking for Ye Shengge."
Ye Shengge, who had just walked into the yard, recognized her father and rushed over. Ye Dad dropped his belongings and caught his daughter's slender frame.
"Wuwuwu, my precious is so light now."
"Dad, I missed you so much."
Bai Leqi looked at her husband with disdain. She noticed that since arriving in this world, her husband had become increasingly unkempt, looking disheveled every day.
It was only after Ye Shengge pulled away from her father's embrace that she began to be critical. Her father used to groom himself meticulously every day, for fear of being disliked by her mother.
"Dad, you look so ugly now. You've completely lost that handsome uncle vibe."
Upon hearing this, Ye Dad was aghast and quickly looked at his wife. It was better not to look, but when he did, his heart broke.
"Dad will become a handsome uncle again right away. Hey, you, quickly take me to the bathroom to wash up."
Ye Dad bossed around Zi Yisheng's people without hesitation. He needed to quickly salvage his image in the hearts of his two darlings.
Mother and daughter exchanged a knowing smile as they looked at the man who had become a mere shadow of his former self. It was good; the family was finally reunited.
Ye Shengge thoughtfully got new clothes for her father and even provided a razor.
After regaining his handsome appearance, Ye Dad squeezed into his daughter's room. The family of three then resumed their feasting.
Ye Dad elegantly wiped the oil from his mouth, subtly using a pillow to conceal his protruding stomach. He needed to maintain his image at all times.
"Shengge, Dad has just settled in at the unit, and now you know about the hidden dangers behind the scenes. So, you won't be able to return to Mingcheng anytime soon."
Ye Shengge was somewhat disheartened, inwardly hating those who schemed behind the scenes. Everyone was on the verge of starvation, yet they weren't focused on solving the people's livelihood issues, but were solely intent on seizing power. When everyone was dead, who would they contend with?
"Your situation now is different from before. We were in a peaceful era before, but now this world is chaotic, and we don't know what the future will hold. So, to survive, we must strive."
Mother Ye also wore a worried expression. The Bai family was now implicated, and her husband carried a heavy burden.
"By the way, Old Ye, is that Zi Yisheng boy trustworthy? After all, our daughter is essentially in his hands. Don't stand behind his Zi family, only to have them stab us in the back later."
