Tian Jing did not intend to ask Zeng Jingchu, but Zeng Jingchu came to find her.
She had just finished washing up and changed her clothes when Zeng Lin arrived carrying Zeng Jingchu on his back.
"Tiantian, have you seen Jixiang? Does he miss me?"
Tian Jing glanced at him, "I went to attend to important matters. I didn't even have time to say a few words to my own son, how could I have time to see your son?"
Zeng Jingchu didn't care about Tian Jing's taunts. He asked, "Then didn't you say you wanted to take me to see that woman? When are we going?"
Tian Jing sneered, "Do you miss her?"
Zeng Jingchu was stunned, then shook his head, "Seeing her is incidental, seeing Jixiang is the main thing."
Tian Jing looked at his leg, still in a cast, and said, "When you can walk like a free person."
Zeng Jingchu pointed to Zeng Lin beside him, "Zeng Lin can walk like a free person. I'll just ride on his back."
"Are you getting too bold?" Tian Jing's face darkened, "Is that a place anyone can enter?"
"Not only am I busy recently, but Zeng Jingrong is also busy. Ji Shiyi is about to give birth. Only you are idle and causing trouble."
"Zeng Lin, carry your young master away. Come back to me when he's a hundred days old."
"Before you come to me, tell Zeng Jingrong to find Mr. Sun to have a chat with him, otherwise, I'll break his legs and make him have another hundred days."
"Yes!"
Zeng Lin reached out to carry his young master.
Zeng Jingchu was uncooperative, "Tiantian, I'm not leaving. I'll have dinner here."
Zeng Lin simply scooped him up in a bridal carry and took the troublesome Zeng Jingchu out of the courtyard.
Tian Jing rubbed her temples. For the past half month, her ears had to listen to reports from over two hundred team members every day, filtering out useful information, and her mind was constantly typing on the keyboard to input data into the computer. Her head was about to explode.
Being bothered by Zeng Jingchu as soon as she got back made her so depressed that she wanted to smash his mouth.
Mother Li returned with a bowl of pheasant soup from her eldest grandson, "Tiantian, drink some soup first and then rest. I'll make dinner now and call you when it's ready."
Tian Jing nodded, "Thank you, Mother."
The pheasant soup was at the perfect temperature. After drinking it, Tian Jing went to the west room to sleep. For the past half month, she hadn't had a proper night's sleep.
When she woke up, it was completely dark. Her husband was leaning against the headboard, blocking the light from the bedside lamp.
Li Zhengguo put down the document in his hand, "Awake? Go wash your face. Mother is waiting for us to eat."
"What time is it?"
"It's past eight."
The couple entered the kitchen. Mother Li was heating the soup.
"I thought you'd be awake by now. You must be exhausted these past two weeks. You've lost weight."
Tian Jing yawned, "It's okay, I just haven't been sleeping soundly."
Li Zhengguo took a bowl and served rice, "Eat and then go back to sleep."
While eating, Tian Jing asked about her mother-in-law, Lin Hua'er, and when she was due.
Mother Li said, "She's gone to the health clinic. She went in yesterday. The due date is still about ten days away, and the two babies still haven't moved."
"Xiao Fu was a bit worried, so he took her to the health clinic. The ultrasound showed the fetuses are very healthy."
Tian Jing nodded, "It's better to be there. I'll go see her tomorrow."
Of course, she couldn't go empty-handed.
The next morning, Tian Jing and her mother-in-law, carrying gifts of fruits, vegetables, milk powder, and oatmeal that they already had at home, went to the health clinic.
Helped by her husband and mother-in-law, Lin Hua'er, who was strolling, smiled and greeted Tian Jing, "Little Aunt is back?"
As soon as she was helped back to the ward, and Tian Jing put down the items in her hands, Lin Hua'er's stomach began to hurt.
Lin Min looked at her sister-in-law and smiled, "Sister-in-law, did you come to induce labor?"
Tian Jing smiled and nodded, "It seems these two little ones want to come out and see their Little Aunt."
Mother Li had already gone to call a nurse.
The nurse took a look and told the family not to worry, that it was still early.
Lin Hua'er's cries of pain grew louder. The nurse came in twice and found that she was already two centimeters dilated, so they sent her to the delivery room.
Three hours later, Chen Jinian and Chen Jiyang were born.
The names were chosen by Chen Fu, simple and fitting for the Year of the Sheep.
Chen Suozhu had no objections. His eldest grandson Ji Qing's name was also chosen by his eldest son, sounding pleasant and good.
He was happy just to hold the babies, these were truly twin grandsons.
Seeing her husband's beaming face, Li Min asked playfully, "There are three now. An'an doesn't know how many she'll have. How much money are you planning to save for your grandsons' weddings?"
Chen Suozhu was stunned. Did his grandsons' weddings have anything to do with him?
"Heh heh," Li Min chuckled, "Think about how money is becoming less valuable, and how the betrothal gifts are getting heavier."
Chen Suozhu scratched his head, "Perhaps I should open a shop in the new village?"
Li Min asked, "What kind of shop do you plan to open? What do you know how to do? I'm quite happy collecting rent, why are you messing around?"
"Then what do you want me to... uh." Chen Suozhu's words were cut off by his wife's glare, "I was wrong. I'll work hard. Whatever you say, wife."
"What can you do?" Li Min gritted her teeth, "Aren't you still working at the nursery?"
"Yes," Chen Suozhu nodded, "The work at the nursery is quite time-intensive. Maybe I..."
Chen Suozhu's words trailed off under his wife's angry gaze.
"Hahaha." Ouyang Meihua, who had rushed to the health clinic upon hearing that her nephew's wife had given birth to twins, couldn't help but laugh at her brother-in-law's dazed expression.
"Suozhu, your wife is speaking indirectly now. She's displeased because there are no granddaughters, only grandsons."
"The one worrying about grandsons' weddings is her son, it has nothing to do with her, and nothing to do with you. She just wants to hear you complain about not having a daughter. She was hoping for a dragon and phoenix combination."
Chen Suozhu looked at Li Min, "Wife, daughters will get married and leave. I'll miss them."
Li Min slapped her husband on the shoulder, "My mother didn't miss me!"
Mother Li added, "I missed you."
Li Min grinned happily.
Mother Li then added, "I didn't miss beating you, I missed beating you ten times. You're causing me so much grief on such a happy occasion, I might as well kill you."
Mother Li raised her hand as she spoke.
Li Min quickly grabbed a small baby from the bed and handed it to Mother Li, "Mother, you've become a great-grandmother again. Aren't you happy?"
Mother Li tenderly took the tiny infant, who was closing his eyes, frowning, and about to cry, "Oh oh, Jiyang, my dear, your grandma is just a scoundrel. Don't cry, Great-Grandma will give you some water to drink."
While coaxing her great-grandson, Mother Li still glared at her daughter, "Why aren't you back to get chicken soup?"
Li Min quickly pulled her husband away.
Tian Jing held the other baby in her hands, feeling the strength of its kicks, and said with a smile, "It's no wonder Xiao Fu took such good care of the mother and children. Each weighing five pounds and one ounce, and born full-term, they are very healthy."
Mother Li nodded, "Xiao Fu is meticulous. If it were up to his mother? Who knows what these two babies would be like."
After playing with the babies for a while, Tian Jing decided to go home.
"Mother, I'm going back to cook. I'll come back to relieve you after eating."
Mother Li nodded, "That's fine. I'm not at ease with just Minmin helping here alone."
When Tian Jing returned home, Li Zhengguo had already gotten off work and was cooking in the kitchen.
"You're back now, Mother hasn't returned yet. Did Hua'er give birth?"
"As expected of Mayor Li." Tian Jing teased her husband.
Li Zhengguo smiled at Tian Jing and continued to chop vegetables.
Tian Jing washed her hands and helped, "After dinner, I'll go relieve Mother so she can rest. By the way, have there been any leads in the Tian family case?"
Li Zhengguo shook his head, "Although people with keen minds find it suspicious, there's no evidence to arrest anyone."
"All the Tian family members were poisoned, except for the older ones who had milder symptoms, the younger ones were more severely affected."
"Tian Ping was also severely poisoned, while the paralyzed Old Mrs. Tian was the least affected."
Tian Jing's hands paused, "Who gave Old Mrs. Tian the food?"
"Tian Daxue. The police haven't investigated Old Mrs. Tian, have they?"
"That's quite cunning, isn't it?"
Li Zhengguo agreed, "Who would say otherwise? My gut feeling is that this wasn't planned by a single person."
Tian Jing only mentioned it in passing and then forgot about it. She wasn't an agent of justice and didn't need to solve cases for the Tian family.
The case of Lin Er'lai had already caused her enough trouble.
