Ling Mo Han, unwilling to watch Chu Chen Yi pace back and forth before him any longer, offered him comfort for the first time in such a considerate manner.
However, this comfort did little to alleviate Chu Chen Yi's worries. His wife was lying inside, her fate uncertain. Ling Mo Han, on the other hand, seemed unconcerned, having the leisure to make sarcastic remarks.
After another cup of tea, seeing no movement from within, Chu Chen Yi could no longer contain himself.
Regardless of the consequences, he had to go in. It was better than being kept outside in ignorance.
Unable to wait any longer, Chu Chen Yi stood up and walked towards the door. Today, he would break down the door if he had to.
Sensing Chu Chen Yi's intention, Ling Mo Han lost his appetite for tea. However, he remembered Feng Jin's instructions and knew he absolutely could not let Chu Chen Yi enter at this moment.
Ling Mo Han quickly stood up and blocked Chu Chen Yi's path. "Please calm yourself. If you rush in now, you'll only create more trouble. It won't do Lin Yu Wei any good. Wait patiently for a while longer; they'll be out soon."
"No, I can't wait any longer. It's not Feng Jin whose life is in danger inside. If it were Feng Jin, you would have lost patience long ago!"
He had already waited for a considerable amount of time and couldn't bear another second. If he waited any longer, he would surely go mad with worry outside. His only thought now was to enter immediately and see Lin Yu Wei safe and sound. Only then could his heart be at ease.
Discarding all caution, Chu Chen Yi exerted all his strength to break free from Ling Mo Han and rushed towards the room.
Just as his hand was about to touch the doorknob, the tightly shut door swung open from within, and Feng Jin's figure appeared. Chu Chen Yi, caught off guard, froze for a moment, almost falling to the ground.
"Didn't I tell you to wait outside? What are you making such a fuss about? Are you a three-year-old child who doesn't know right from wrong?"
Feng Jin's voice involuntarily rose in anger. She had repeatedly warned them not to barge in, but they still wouldn't listen, clamoring to see what was happening inside.
If she hadn't opened the door herself, Chu Chen Yi would likely have kicked it down in the next moment.
"Your Highness... Your Highness also worried, which led to this desperate measure!" Chu Chen Yi, knowing he was in the wrong, lacked confidence in his speech, his tone light and clearly lacking in spirit.
After an awkward pause of a few seconds, Chu Chen Yi impatiently inquired about Lin Yu Wei's condition. "How is she? Is she seriously injured? Can I go in and see her now?"
Chu Chen Yi bombarded Feng Jin with a series of questions, all revolving around Lin Yu Wei.
What pleased Feng Jin was that Chu Chen Yi's first question was about Lin Yu Wei's condition, not about the child in her womb.
It seemed Chu Chen Yi still had some conscience. For the sake of his concern for Lin Yu Wei, she decided not to make things too difficult for him.
"She's fine. Her condition has improved a lot, but she still needs plenty of rest. Most importantly, you must absolutely not let her get angry. Pregnant women are most susceptible to emotional instability, which can harm the baby in her womb. In severe cases, both mother and child could be injured..."
"I've explained everything to you. You're on your own now. After all, not every situation ends with such good luck and no harm. Think carefully about it yourself."
At this point, she had done all she could. The future was theirs to live together, and how they would live it was their own choice.
Even the wisest official can't settle domestic disputes. She couldn't always be there to clean up their messes for them.
"Now that things have come to this, think carefully for yourself. You can't come looking for us for help every time something happens!"
Ling Mo Han was also annoyed by their affairs. Dealing with them had already cost him too much time. He had planned to take Feng Jin and their child out for an outing today, but now, because of their issues, he didn't have time for that.
This time, he would stand firm with Feng Jin and prevent these two from constantly bothering them. It was simply too tiresome.
Feng Jin turned and shot Ling Mo Han a glare. He was quite good at seizing an opportunity; his timing was impeccable.
"Stop your sarcastic remarks. Didn't I ask you to keep him in check and stop him from entering? What did you do? You almost let him rush in and nearly caused a major disaster!"
"I tried to stop him! He acted like he had mad cow disease, charging in like a lunatic. He almost injured me..."
Ling Mo Han's tone was one of great grievance. He had indeed tried to stop him and had even reasoned with him, but Chu Chen Yi was stubbornly determined and completely ignored his advice. He genuinely couldn't stop him.
"Stop the nonsense. Both of you leave now. I'll have someone call you when she wakes up."
Feng Jin intended to dismiss them. They couldn't help anything by staying, and would only cause more trouble. It was more efficient for them to leave quickly.
"Alright, I'm leaving now." Ling Mo Han was now completely obedient to Feng Jin's words. Hearing Feng Jin's command, he immediately grabbed Chu Chen Yi and started to pull him out.
"You're a henpecked husband! Spineless! I look down on you!"
Chu Chen Yi hadn't expected Ling Mo Han to actually drag him away. He knew Ling Mo Han was obedient to Feng Jin's words, but he hadn't anticipated such complete submission.
Feng Jin would probably scare him so much that he'd wet his pants if she so much as sneezed. Such uselessness, being so afraid of his wife was truly embarrassing!
"Say a few less words. If you were so capable, why didn't you just barge in earlier? Why did you retreat?"
Ling Mo Han's words hit Chu Chen Yi's sore spot, like a hand around his throat, leaving him speechless.
"I... I did that because... because..." Chu Chen Yi thought for a long time, stumbling over his words and unable to find a suitable reason.
"Stop with the nonsense. I know you well enough. I'm giving you a way out, so take it quickly!"
Ling Mo Han cast a disdainful glance at Chu Chen Yi. With his limited courage, he was now acting bold. Didn't he almost lose his soul when he saw Feng Jin earlier?
If he truly had the guts, he would have rushed in then, instead of spewing nonsense here. He probably only dared to complain to Ling Mo Han.
"Why have you become so pathetic? Do you intend to be suppressed by Feng Jin for the rest of your life? Don't you want to turn things around?"
"I'm perfectly happy with it, and it's none of your business!"
