Chapter 369 Unavoidable

Ding Muyu deliberately pretended to understand Sheng Chenjin well. "I say, it's not easy for you either. A woman, especially a woman like you, with nothing, finally finds a rich man. What she wants most is to marry him."

Hearing these words, Shi Xinxin clenched her fists tightly. "Even if he uses you as a pawn, I hope he won't hurt you."

Shi Xinxin's mind was filled with hatred. What did she mean by 'don't hurt her'? Wasn't being used as a pawn already a form of harm?

Unknowingly, Shi Xinxin fell into the trap Ding Muyu had set for her again.

"I asked her to wait two more days, and then she brought you to the villa again. I threw a tantrum, and to appease me, he promised that after he dealt with your aftermath, we would get married and then go to Australia for our honeymoon."

After taking a sip of coffee, Ding Muyu continued, "But you know Sheng Chenjin, he's a kind-hearted person. He promised me, and he even bought me the estate, but he hasn't been able to deal with your aftermath. He really can't bring himself to tell you. He's just too soft-hearted."

Ding Muyu said helplessly, "So I thought it would be easier for us women to communicate, which is why I'm telling you. After our last encounter, I knew you were a straightforward woman."

Shi Xinxin couldn't quite grasp what game Ding Muyu was playing. Ding Muyu's shift from her previous gentle demeanor to her current grace made Shi Xinxin feel somewhat uneasy.

Furthermore, the two different stories she had received from Ding Muyu and Sheng Chenjin left her unsure of whom to believe. However, the contract laid out in black and white on the table made it impossible for her to continue believing Sheng Chenjin's words.

"Since that's the case, then Miss Ding, you don't need to say anything more." Shi Xinxin had been in a daze for a while, but now, she felt a surge of strength from somewhere and just wanted to leave the coffee table as quickly as possible.

She stood up, picked up the contract, and as she was about to leave, she was called back by Ding Muyu, "Wait a moment."

Shi Xinxin stopped in her tracks. "Is there anything else?"

"Is there anything else? The matter isn't resolved yet. I still don't know what your attitude is," Ding Muyu said, sitting in her chair with a victorious air as she looked at Shi Xinxin's retreating back.

"You've already bought the estate and are going on your honeymoon. Are you still worried about me chasing you abroad to harass you? Don't worry, my salary as a white-collar worker isn't high enough for that."

"Miss Shi, you're quite good at dodging the question. Going abroad for a honeymoon is true, but what about the days in China?" Ding Muyu's repeated questioning made Shi Xinxin lose her temper.

Shi Xinxin had originally planned to find Sheng Chenjin and ask him to clarify his intentions. But now, with Ding Muyu being so aggressive, she had abandoned that idea entirely.

"Alright, I promise you. From now on, I will never actively contact Sheng Chenjin again, nor will I see him. Are you satisfied now, Miss Ding?" Shi Xinxin said, tightly clenching the contract in her hand. In her heart, she wished she could be gripping Ding Muyu's beautiful mouth instead.

"I'm not satisfied. Miss Shi, you live up to your reputation as an editor. You always like to play these word games."

Shi Xinxin didn't understand what she meant and didn't reply. Ding Muyu stood up and began to gather her belongings. "You can promise not to contact him proactively, but who knows if you'll come up with some trick to make Chenjin have to find you?"

She picked up her handbag and walked a few steps forward, walking alongside Shi Xinxin. "You're currently holding the title of Chenjin's fiancée. Anything you do outside could easily attract overwhelming media attention. How could he not step in to resolve these issues then?"

She slowly walked in a circle around Shi Xinxin, finally stopping in front of her. "Let me state the conditions. I want you to, from now on, regardless of the reason, not have any contact with Chenjin. And, concerning future media reports."

Ding Muyu added, "As long as Chenjin publicly breaks off your engagement, you must publicly acknowledge it and not interfere. Don't cause any trouble."

Shi Xinxin let out a cold laugh. "Don't worry, Miss Ding. Severing ties with someone like him is something I've been longing for."

As Shi Xinxin spoke, she glared fiercely at Ding Muyu. Although Ding Muyu was causing her so much trouble, her true hatred was directed at Sheng Chenjin.

Seeing her so angry, Ding Muyu was very pleased. She smiled as she watched Shi Xinxin's retreating back.

Shi Xinxin tightly clutched the fake contract in her hand. It contained no information about her. Even if the truth came out one day and Shi Xinxin presented the contract, Sheng Chenjin would still not blame Ding Muyu for it. She could also claim she was deceived, that it was all a misunderstanding.

Seeing Shi Xinxin leave, Ding Muyu walked out of the office building with satisfaction. The thought of Sheng Chenjin returning to her side made her incredibly happy.

Shi Xinxin, whose office was only a few floors away from the coffee shop, couldn't remember how she ended up sitting at her desk. When she came to her senses, only the contract for the purchase of the estate was on the desk. The dense English text made her feel lost. Even if she couldn't understand the rest, the "Sheng Chenjin" written in pinyin on it was still there.

She couldn't control her gaze, staring fixedly at those few letters. At this moment, an intern brought a document to her side.

Seeing her dazed expression and the single document on her desk, the intern felt a little worried. So many people had been bothering her these past two days. What had happened?

The intern hesitantly tapped her shoulder. "Sister Xinxin, are you alright?"

Shi Xinxin snapped back to reality and forced a smile. "I'm fine, but I feel a bit unwell. I need to take some leave and go home."

As soon as she finished speaking, Shi Xinxin got up, grabbed her backpack from the back of her chair, and casually stuffed the document from the desk into her bag. Before the intern could react, she had already left her seat, asked the editor-in-chief for a day and a half of leave, and then left the magazine agency like a zombie.

Once in the elevator and out of the office building, she looked at the bustling world before her and the surrounding skyscrapers. She couldn't help but sigh inwardly. The gap in status was truly insurmountable. She had trusted Sheng Chenjin countless times, but she had never realized that his explanations were always so casual. Aside from a few words, she hadn't seen any other explanations from Sheng Chenjin. It was all her own fault for being too naive.
