In an instant, countless colorful thoughts flashed through Shi Xinxin's mind.
From her initial shock, anger bloomed, a fire raging in her chest. "Good, so while I was unconscious, you went off with someone else!"
Seeing the misunderstanding escalating, Sheng Chenjin, flustered and helpless, fearing Shi Xinxin would misinterpret, quickly explained, "I've been by your side the whole time. I absolutely did not go find anyone else."
Shi Xinxin naturally didn't believe he would do such a thing, but remembering Sheng Chenjin's odd behavior in hiding the bite mark earlier, she knew she had to employ some tactic to get him to reveal the truth about the mark.
She raised an eyebrow, half-doubting, her gaze drifting casually towards Sheng Chenjin with hidden meaning, "If what you say is true, then this bite mark was left by me on you?"
Shi Xinxin had said it casually, but Sheng Chenjin's expression froze slightly, and she suddenly understood.
Her tone immediately turned serious. Shi Xinxin frowned and stepped closer, "What's going on? How could I have bitten you, on your shoulder? What happened while I was unconscious?"
A hint of helplessness flickered in Sheng Chenjin's eyes. He covered the bite mark, "You accidentally bumped into me. It's not a big deal."
"How could it be just an accidental bump!" Shi Xinxin's voice rose in agitation.
A fleeting image flashed in her mind, and she no longer cared about embarrassment. She yanked down the collar Sheng Chenjin had just buttoned up.
Now, up close, Shi Xinxin could clearly see the distinct bite mark on Sheng Chenjin's shoulder. The impression was so deep it looked like it would bleed through his skin. A thin layer of ointment was smeared around the mark, but the green and red mingled, a shocking sight.
Shi Xinxin's fingers tightened on the fabric. She looked up blankly at Sheng Chenjin, seeing a hint of helplessness on his face.
"You have such a deep bite mark, and you didn't say anything? Or get it treated promptly!" Although Shi Xinxin was concerned, her words were blunt.
Her tone was somewhat anxious, "Why don't you care about yourself at all? If such a deep mark isn't treated in time, what if it gets infected!"
The last sentence was almost a desperate cry from Shi Xinxin.
She was truly worried now, no longer caring how the bite mark came to be. All she knew was that Sheng Chenjin had stayed here for her for so long, and even with a bleeding bite mark, he hadn't cleaned it properly.
Then, Shi Xinxin saw a smile on Sheng Chenjin's face.
The corners of his lips curved into a happy arc. "Xinxin, this is the first time I've seen such an excited expression on your face. Are you… worried about me?"
She was still angrily questioning him, and this guy had already forgotten everything she said, or perhaps hadn't heard a single word. His own wound wasn't treated, and he was already smiling foolishly!
The anger in Shi Xinxin's heart had nowhere to go. She felt both helpless and exasperated.
She glanced at the smiling Sheng Chenjin, "I'm so anxious I'm about to explode, and you're asking me if I'm worried about you? Did you lose your cerebellum on this trip?"
Despite her harsh words, Shi Xinxin still picked up the bedside medicine kit and gestured towards Sheng Chenjin with her chin.
Sheng Chenjin raised his eyebrows. Seeing that Shi Xinxin was preparing to apply medicine, his heart bloomed with joy.
He quickly took off his shirt, exposing his upper body to Shi Xinxin's gaze.
Shi Xinxin's hand, holding the medical tools, visibly paused.
Sheng Chenjin, who worked out regularly, had a healthy tan. His abs were well-defined, his lines perfect and superior. His lower torso was hidden by black pants.
Shi Xinxin paused, then slowly shifted her gaze to Sheng Chenjin's face, seeing his somewhat smug expression.
The next moment, Sheng Chenjin, who was waiting for his beloved to apply medicine, had a cotton swab thrown at his face, followed by Shi Xinxin's cold voice, "Since you want to show off your body so much, then you can apply the medicine yourself. It'll be a feast for the eyes."
Sheng Chenjin's eyes snapped open, and he reached out to grab Shi Xinxin, who was about to leave.
He quickly regained his composure, noticing Shi Xinxin's slightly reddened ears. His anxiety instantly turned to joy.
"Don't do that! I'm not a professional. What if I apply the wrong medicine and worsen the wound?"
Shi Xinxin exerted force, trying to break free from Sheng Chenjin's grip, but found that her strength was merely one percent of his.
So, Shi Xinxin turned her face seriously, "Who are you kidding? Don't think I don't know you were number one in history at Kyoto University."
These were the kind of accolades Sheng Chenjin had always detested, as he loathed being reminded of such empty honors. But upon hearing Shi Xinxin say this, he immediately puffed up with pride and raised his eyebrows, "Is that so?"
"I didn't expect my past fame to be so great that even you would know. It seems you used to admire me quite a bit."
Give him an inch, he takes a mile. Shi Xinxin decided to end the topic here, but couldn't resist adding, "Honestly, I heard about you from my roommates every day back then, so I barely managed to remember some things."
Shi Xinxin emphasized the word "barely" deliberately.
As expected, Sheng Chenjin's face instantly fell. Shi Xinxin continued, "And speaking of which, so many people in our college admired you. It seems you really enjoy being admired. Should I introduce those classmates to you?"
Hearing this, Sheng Chenjin realized Shi Xinxin was intentionally speaking in anger.
But even so, he was happy to play along. He sighed, "We've been together for so long, and it seems you still don't know one thing."
Shi Xinxin's expression was blank, "What else is there that I don't know about you?"
Sheng Chenjin chuckled softly, his words laden with ambiguity that stirred endless imagination, "I used to really dislike that blind admiration from people, and I also disliked those empty, useless things."
Before he could finish, Shi Xinxin pursed her lips, her grip on his hand unconsciously loosening slightly. She seemed to anticipate what he was about to say, yet a faint expectation lingered in her heart.
She felt annoyed by her own abnormal reaction and turned her head away.
"But if the owner of those things were you, then I would be more than happy to accompany you to the very end," Sheng Chenjin said slowly, his gaze fixed on Shi Xinxin's face as if glued there.
Shi Xinxin's eyes darted away, and she said slowly, "I never admitted to admiring you. Narcissism is a disease, and it needs to be cured."
Sheng Chenjin replied nonchalantly, nodding, "Alright, let's cure it. After all, the most skilled doctor is right beside me. What can't be cured?"
Shi Xinxin retorted, "Even if I were to save a stray dog, I wouldn't save you."
Her tone carried a hint of petulance that she herself didn't notice.
