Chapter 24 The Secret of Su Bei City

"What did Sheng Chenjin say? He's not stopping them?"

Shi Xinxin's eyes widened.

"You two are already so outstanding and good-looking, I'll just refine them a bit more!"

The little girl, having received affirmation, lost her earlier nervousness but dared not linger.

"Thank you, beautiful lady, handsome gentleman, goodbye!"

The young girl, as happy as if she'd received candy, scampered away and vanished.

Shi Xinxin still couldn't understand.

"Mr. Sheng holds such a high position, yet he can be so magnanimous. I, this humble woman, am impressed."

Shi Xinxin spoke sarcastically, feeling that Sheng Chenjin was deliberately going against her.

She didn't give Sheng Chenjin a chance to retort, and carrying her drink, she returned to her car and drove away with a flourish.

Leaving Sheng Chenjin alone at the shop entrance, he chuckled softly.

"Heartless."

He uttered the words lightly, yet his mood was exceptionally pleasant.

He returned to the company just before 1:50 PM and, without much preparation, proceeded to the conference room for a meeting.

The atmosphere in the entire meeting was surprisingly good. Those who had been nervously awaiting scolding were bewildered, finding Sheng Chenjin's gentle demeanor even more terrifying.

They dared not look at Sheng Chenjin and instead cast curious glances at his assistant, Bai Feng.

Bai Feng endured their gazes with an expression of pride.

See, these people were still trembling with fear. The President's meeting with Miss Shi must have gone well, which explained his good mood.

Otherwise, the usually strict Mr. Sheng wouldn't have let them off so easily. They should just be thankful.

"Alright, meeting adjourned."

Sheng Chenjin uttered the words without emotion, but his posture as he stood and exited the conference room looked exceptionally relaxed.

Everyone in the conference room breathed a collective sigh of relief.

"Did the President get possessed today? If so, I hope this entity stays for a few more days. I never want to be scolded by the President again!"

The one with the wildest imagination said weakly.

"Bai Feng, I heard the President rushed in right before the meeting. What happened to make him so happy?"

"How many multi-trillion yuan contracts must he have signed?"

They nodded in unison, unable to imagine anything that could make the great demon king happy.

"You wouldn't understand. The President's mood is not something mere mortals can casually speculate about."

"What if the iron tree bloomed?"

Bai Feng couldn't help but show off, adding a mysterious sentence before closely following Sheng Chenjin to the President's office.

He left the others behind, racking their brains.

"This is huge news! Could it be that the President has found love?"

"I think it's very possible. What kind of person is worthy of the President's immense wealth... no, what kind of person could make this thousand-year-old tree bloom again!"

"Stop guessing. Your reports haven't even been approved, and you're still slacking off here. The President's future wife will eventually reveal herself. Why are you more anxious than the President?"

The department manager slammed a folder onto the young employee's head, his face stern but his words humorous.

"You're calling me a eunuch!"

The young employee, hit on the head, pouted tearfully.

...

Shi Xinxin considered going back to the company, but the matter of the key lingered in her mind, a thousand unanswered questions swirling around her.

They disturbed her peace.

She decided to drive to the prison instead.

The Su family's case had been investigated quickly, and the individuals involved were all convicted. Their meager assets were confiscated, and they were sent to prison. However, upon arrival, the family was separated.

Regardless of whether he spoke or not, Shi Xinxin wanted to gauge his reaction.

Thinking of the Su family's potential involvement in her parents' murder, her gaze turned cold.

She visited him under the guise of being Su Beicheng's business partner. Upon hearing the word "partner," the prison guard processing her visit sighed.

"How many partners has he had now? He's probably the CEO of the company who's offended the most people I've ever seen."

"Don't be too harsh when you speak to him. If he has a psychological breakdown, your issues won't be resolved."

The prison guard said earnestly, his tone practiced, as if he were used to this.

Shi Xinxin simply nodded, indicating she understood.

She followed the guard into the visiting room and sat outside the glass window, quietly awaiting Su Beicheng's arrival.

Soon, the iron door inside clanged, and Su Beicheng entered with a somber expression. Bruises were visible on his face, and his hands were cuffed. The moment he saw Shi Xinxin, a flicker of fearful evasion crossed his eyes.

Shi Xinxin caught his expression, deepening her confusion. If he hated her, she would understand. But fear? She didn't quite grasp that.

With a probing curiosity, Shi Xinxin picked up the phone in front of her.

"My former father, are you well?"

Shi Xinxin emphasized the word "father" with a heavy, mocking tone.

"You couldn't kill me, so seeing me in this sorry state must be quite satisfying, right?"

Su Beicheng sneered. In prison, after racking his brain, besides this daughter who had never treated him particularly well, he couldn't think of anyone else who would go to such lengths to torment him in this manner.

"Mr. Su, what are you talking about? I'm not here to gloat over your misfortune today. I've returned to the country and haven't had the chance to visit you in person yet. I didn't expect our first meeting would be in a place like this." As she spoke, Shi Xinxin glanced around the small visiting room. "I wanted to see how you've been lately and, incidentally, ask about... past events."

Shi Xinxin stared intently at Su Beicheng, not missing a single expression on his face or in his eyes.

Indeed, when Shi Xinxin uttered her last sentence, he showed a look of "I knew it."

Su Beicheng's eyes paused upon hearing this. It seemed the inevitable had arrived.

"Don't you know better than anyone else how I've been doing?"

Su Beicheng deliberately ignored her last sentence.

"How did you know I was asking about the past and not about my situation at the Su family?"

Shi Xinxin didn't take the bait, seizing the opportunity and asking Su Beicheng with a sharp gaze.

"Finding Su Luo, whom you claimed to be, was merely a coincidence."

Su Beicheng's expression remained unchanged, as if this were the factual truth.

"Coincidence? My entire Shi family has lived abroad permanently. How could you have 'found' me? And why was it precisely you?"

"If you found me, why didn't you search for my birth parents? Wasn't your Su family powerful and influential? Wouldn't it have been easy to find someone?"

Shi Xinxin couldn't believe Su Beicheng. His words were riddled with too many holes.

"It seems no matter what I say, you won't believe me."

Su Beicheng spread his hands, appearing somewhat at a loss for words.

"Because you are lying. How can I believe you?"

Shi Xinxin's tone was firm, refusing to let Su Beicheng off the hook.

"Haha, you Su Luo, oh no, Shi Xinxin, are indeed much smarter than Su Li."

"However, you should have come to ask me earlier. Perhaps, before, whether you coerced me or threatened me, I might have magnanimously told you."

"But now, it's truly unfortunate. If I don't want to say it, there's nothing you can do to me."

Su Beicheng's attitude became somewhat arrogant, as if he had thought of something.

Shi Xinxin's gaze sharpened, realizing the situation had become more difficult.

Su Beicheng seemed to have no fear of death anymore.
