The next few days, Chen Yang basically went home every day to have dinner with his two little ones. He had been busy with factory construction and purchasing production lines these past few months, and had slightly neglected his family.
After Shen Xue reminded him, Chen Yang would also come back earlier each day to play games with his two little ones.
Usually, Zhang Ma and Shen Xue would take them to the Bund park to play. The two little ones weren't bored. Next year, they would be four years old and could go to kindergarten for a couple of years.
“Yanyan, Haohao, wake up! The sun is almost up, are you forgetting you promised Dad and Mom you’d pick up Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt, and Uncle at the station yesterday?”
Early in the morning, Shen Xue pulled the two little ones out of bed. It was Saturday, and Chen Yang’s parents and elder sister’s husband would be bringing their nephew Li Yi to Shanghai.
Shanghai was economically developed, and the roads were mostly paved with cement or stone. Chen Yang had also bought two sedans from Port City long ago.
So this time, Chen Yang planned to go to the train station with Shen Xue and their three children to pick up guests. The other car would be driven by Lei Baoguo, who would pick up Chen Yang's parents and elder sister and her husband.
“Oh oh oh, we get to ride Daddy’s little car again. Wuwuwu.”
The sleepy toddlers, who had wanted to stay in bed, perked up as soon as they heard they were going to pick someone up.
Although Chen Yang had a car, the two little ones rarely got to ride in it. They were overjoyed to hear they could.
“You two ungrateful little ones, you remember riding in the car, but you don’t remember Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt, Uncle, and little brother Yi?”
“Grandpa and Grandma bought you so much delicious food, don’t you remember? And Aunt and Uncle took you to so many places and gave you red envelopes, have you forgotten all of that?”
Shen Xue pinched the cheeks of the two little ones. They were only thinking about riding in the car. Even though children were immature, parents shouldn’t be. They should teach them, and they would remember after a few times.
“Yanyan loves Grandpa and Grandma the most. I’m happiest when Grandpa and Grandma come home.”
“I like Aunt and Uncle the most too, and also, uh, and also little brother Yi.”
Hearing Shen Xue’s words, the toddlers and Chen Hao immediately raised their hands and said they liked Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt, Uncle, and their little brother the most.
“If you like them, then hurry up and get up, brush your teeth, wash your face, and eat breakfast. Grandpa and Grandma will be here at nine.”
Chen Yang didn’t indulge them. He and Shen Xue each took one, lifted them up, and helped them get dressed.
The weather was gradually getting warmer, not as cold as winter. It was indeed time to get up early.
“Oh oh oh, let’s eat and then go pick up Grandpa and Grandma.”
The two little ones were incredibly happy. They ate their breakfast almost as if they were devouring clouds. Chen Yang was amused by the two awakened divine beasts.
Compared to his two rowdy older siblings, little Chen Peng was not to be outdone and had a bowel movement right then, forcing Shen Xue to bathe and change him.
There were no disposable diapers back then. They used a cloth diaper. It was fine if it was just urine, but for a bowel movement, it was troublesome. The smell would even seep through their clothes, and they had to be bathed.
After a delay, by the time Chen Yang and Lei Baoguo drove to the train station, the elderly couple Chen Liming and Qin Lifen had already disembarked and exited the station.
“See, I told you not to come pick them up, but you insisted. And now we’re here, and you’re not.”
After all, he was an old father. Even though his son was already a father himself, he couldn’t help but lecture him.
“Don’t scold our son in front of the children. Xiaoyi, this is your Uncle and Aunt. Come and hug them.”
Before Chen Liming could start his lecture, Qin Lifen cut him off. The old man had nothing to say, and then he happened to see his grandson and granddaughter.
“Grandpa’s precious darlings, come here, Grandpa will hold you.”
Chen Liming directly scooped up the toddlers and Chen Hao, one in each arm. Chen Yang was happy to let him.
“Grandpa, we missed you and Grandma so much.”
The two little ones snuggled into Chen Liming’s arms, very affectionate. Although they hadn’t been with their grandfather, they were old enough to remember how much their grandparents doted on them.
“Dad, Mom, please get in the car. It’s not Chen Yang’s fault today. He woke up early, but Pengpeng had a bowel movement, so I had to bathe him and change his clothes. That’s why we’re late.”
Shen Xue saw that her father-in-law was holding the two children and was clearly not angry, so she quickly helped her husband explain.
“Sister, brother-in-law, here, let me take that. I’ll carry it.”
“Yanyan, Haohao, greet them.”
Chen Yang and Lei Baoguo quickly stepped forward to take the luggage from Chen Juan and Li Zhengpeng. Hearing his words, the toddlers and Chen Hao quickly greeted them.
“Hello, Auntie. Hello, Uncle.”
The two little ones immediately greeted them sweetly. If the old man hadn’t been so happy, the couple would have wanted to hug and kiss them.
“Let’s not stand at the station entrance. Let’s go home first and rest.”
Chen Yang and Lei Baoguo put the luggage in the car and then came to pick up their little nephew. The little guy, with his big, curious eyes, was already starting to learn to walk.
He kept trying to wriggle out of Qin Lifen’s arms to walk on the ground. Chen Yang immediately hoisted the little guy onto his shoulders.
“Xiaoyi, Uncle will give you a horsey ride.”
In his previous life, Chen Yang loved his nephew the most. Although his nephew’s facial features were slightly different this time, he was still the child of his elder sister and brother-in-law.
A nephew resembles his maternal uncle. This nephew still had some of Chen Yang’s childhood shadows in his brows.
The little guy didn’t cry or fuss. He held onto his uncle’s head with his little hands, clearly happy.
“Look, this kid is quite close to his maternal uncle. He cries when others touch him, but he doesn’t fuss when his uncle plays with him.”
Li Zhengpeng looked at his son’s behavior and was quite surprised. His colleagues, who often visited their home, couldn’t even get the little guy to let them touch him.
Although Chen Yang was his maternal uncle, his son barely saw him a couple of times a year, so he should have been less familiar to the little guy than his colleagues.
But this little guy wasn’t afraid of him at all. The connection between bloodlines was sometimes so mysterious.
“That’s right. He’s his maternal uncle. Besides us two, his maternal uncle is the closest person to him.”
Chen Juan naturally felt happy seeing her son get along so well with her brother. She knew how much her brother had suffered for her and how good he had been to her.
If it weren’t for her brother, she would have been sent to the countryside back then. If her brother hadn’t returned, her husband’s parents might not have accepted her so easily, and they wouldn’t have been so polite to her now.
“Maternal uncle, maternal uncle, half mother, half uncle. It’s only natural for an uncle to love his nephew.”
Chen Liming was also happy to see his children getting along well. With children and grandchildren around, and close sibling relationships, wasn’t this their greatest happiness in life?
