Chapter 194 Spring Aquarium

Watching him leap, the few of us ran to the edge of the rooftop. I thought the bomb would explode when he fell, but the detonator was placed on the balcony's edge. Cai Mingjie didn't take it with him.

I quickly retrieved it. With a bang, Cai Mingjie was dead from the fall. Unexpectedly, it happened precisely at the moment his wife and daughter were getting out of the car.

Witnessing their husband’s death, both were so shocked they collapsed to the ground.

Liu Yuning and I shook our heads in frustration. We were so close to success, but ultimately, we couldn't save him.

As we went downstairs, the forensic team arrived and was already collecting the body. I saw Cai Shangshang sobbing uncontrollably, repeating one sentence: "Why were you so foolish? By doing this, you've lost everything..."

Cai Mingjie's neck was broken, and his body was severely damaged. As we lifted his corpse, blood splattered everywhere. His wife and daughter were almost unable to walk from crying, needing our assistance as police officers to get them into the forensic vehicle.

The bomb on Cai Mingjie was disarmed by Xia Hou and sent to the forensics department for detailed examination.

With Cai Mingjie dead, we couldn't get the origin of the bomb from him this time.

Liu Yuning and I had no choice but to visit his home, with Cai Shangshang present.

Cai Shangshang told us, "I was just angry at the moment and said those hurtful words to him. I never expected he would do something so foolish. Now, thinking back, if I hadn't said that, he probably wouldn't have died!"

"It's all in the past, Miss Cai. Don't be too sad. We need to investigate the house thoroughly!"

"No problem, feel free to search anywhere!"

"Yes, but have you received any mysterious packages in the past few days?"

"I left three days ago and don't know what happened after that. Perhaps he received that bomb in those few days!" Cai Shangshang said. I observed her micro-expressions and found them to be normal.

Liu Yuning and I split up. I entered the room and searched through Cai Mingjie's belongings. I checked his computer and investigated his recent online shopping records but found no useful information.

While checking his room's trash can, I discovered a very exquisite packaging box. The shipping date was within the last two days. I examined the box carefully, thinking this was likely the package for the explosive clothing.

However, there was no return address. It was likely delivered in person. If it was similar to Chen Kaicheng's case, we might be able to see who left such a package from the surveillance footage.

I quickly went out of the room and asked Cai Shangshang, "Do you have any surveillance cameras installed outside your house?"

"No, but it's a public road. This isn't a private housing complex, so we can only rely on public surveillance."

"Alright, we need to take this computer and this packaging box back with us!"

"Take whatever you need! I hope you can find the person who sent the package quickly!"

"We will, thank you for your cooperation, Miss Cai. We'll notify you as soon as we have any news!" I replied, and then Liu Yuning and I left Cai Mingjie's house. Afterward, we obtained road surveillance footage from convenience stores near Cai Mingjie's home.

Back at the police station, we first sent the packaging box for analysis. The result showed traces of gunpowder residue, proving that it had contained the explosive clothing.

This was as I had expected. Now, we just needed to check the road surveillance footage outside Cai Mingjie's house. Following the time provided by Cai Shangshang, we quickly found the footage. However, the situation was not optimistic, as we couldn't see anyone approaching Cai Mingjie's house; the package simply appeared.

"How could it be so bizarre? Did that person go invisible?" Gao Mingqiang exclaimed in surprise.

"That's impossible. It's likely the surveillance was tampered with. Since the culprit could do that before, it's no different this time. He wouldn't expose himself now; this doesn't fit his modus operandi."

"I agree with He Sheng's assessment. It will be very difficult to find the sender. Firstly, we don't even know where Du Yuting sent everything. Secondly, it's likely already been sent, and that person will definitely be in hiding," Liu Yuning said.

He Xin raised a doubt, "So, we can only find all the dangerous weapons but not catch Du Yuting?"

"That depends on you. You're the only one with that capability here!"

"Not necessarily. Let's investigate from multiple angles. If Du Yuting appears again, I'll find a way to catch her!" my uncle suddenly said.

"She hasn't been seen on Sky Eye recently," He Xin reported.

At this point, we were at a loss for how to proceed. In such a passive situation, everyone had to disperse for the time being and rest.

Only He Xin, Yuan Hezheng, and others remained at the computers, ready to respond to any sudden developments.

If they got tired, others would take over the watch.

The prolonged exhaustion made my head ache, feeling as though it had been severely hit, with a lingering echo. My nose was also stuffed, and I realized I had caught a cold.

If not for this cold, I would have forgotten that people could get sick.

Seeing my poor condition, Xie Chuchu came over and prescribed some medicine, telling me to go back to the dormitory to rest. I initially wanted to refuse, but Liu Yuning nudged me out of the police station. Unable to resist her, I eventually took a taxi home.

Upon returning, I collapsed onto the bed and slept with abandon, sleeping so deeply that I was oblivious to everything. When I woke up, I was drenched in sweat but felt much better.

I went to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and let the hot water cascade over me. It was incredibly refreshing. The feeling of recovering from a serious illness was indeed wonderful. No wonder people used to say it was one of life's three great joys.

After my shower, I changed my clothes and checked my phone. No one had called. I assumed nothing had happened yesterday. Just as I was about to head to the police station, my phone rang, "He Sheng, are you feeling better?"

"Much better. Is there a new case?"

"Yes, this time it's an aquarium. It seems to have been locked down internally, and several aquarium staff and some tourists are being held hostage by a perpetrator. I'm on my way."

"Okay, I'm coming right over! Send me the exact address!"

Soon, I received the information on my phone. Following the GPS, I drove my car towards the crime scene: Spring Aquarium.

This aquarium is quite large for our city, Fuming. During the Spring Festival, many parents bring their children to visit, and of course, fish enthusiasts also enjoy coming here for sightseeing, taking pictures with their phones and cameras.
