Chapter 39 Hostility

The moment Su Ling's words left her lips, Zhang Miaomiao, Li Yunlong's girlfriend, immediately retorted.

She was clearly shaken, her condition not at all good.

Nestled in Li Yunlong's arms, her body still trembled uncontrollably.

Zhang Miaomiao didn't disbelieve Su Ling, but rather, she found it hard to accept the reality.

Suddenly falling unconscious, only to wake up and see living people transformed into the zombie-like beings from movies, biting at anyone they encountered – anyone experiencing this would struggle to cope, break down, and despair.

She hadn't recovered from witnessing her boyfriend and friends cleaning up zombie corpses.

Then, being hit by a headless corpse Su Ling threw out, her already fragile nerves and consciousness were pushed to the brink of collapse.

Li Yunlong held Zhang Miaomiao tightly. He looked at Su Ling and said, "I'm sorry, she's been frightened."

Su Ling had no desire to explain or argue with Zhang Miaomiao's doubts.

Everyone's psychological resilience differed, and Zhang Miaomiao's reaction was normal.

"I understand," Su Ling replied to Li Yunlong, then, holding her Tang knife, she took out her keys and stepped aside to lock the warehouse door from the outside.

Having done this, she prepared to leave with her Tang knife. Li Yunlong called out to her, "You're not safe alone. If you don't mind, you could team up with us. We have a car and are planning to leave here before dark."

From Li Yunlong, Su Ling sensed the kindness and goodwill of a post-apocalyptic world.

After Li Yunlong's proactive invitation to form a team, Chen Jiakai and Xu Lin also nodded at Su Ling.

The three of them hailed from the military and possessed formidable combat skills.

The zombies on the third floor had all been dealt with by the three of them, and the survivors had been moved to a safe zone.

In their perception, Su Ling was part of the general populace, needing their protection.

Furthermore, they knew Su Ling was not simple and must have considerable skills. Inviting her to team up would be beneficial without any downside.

However, it was evident that while the three young men sincerely invited Su Ling, the other two women were not very welcoming.

Especially Zhang Miaomiao, she was the first to step forward and protest, "I don't agree to her joining us."

After saying this, Zhang Miaomiao looked at Su Ling with hostility, "Minmin and I are already liabilities to the team. If we bring her along, our journey home will be even more difficult. And we truly don't know what the situation is like outside."

"Her sudden appearance here is inherently suspicious. I don't trust her and don't agree to her joining."

She said this, but Zhang Miaomiao knew the truth in her heart.

From the fact that Su Ling could throw a headless corpse, it was clear that Su Ling's own strength was not lacking.

The reason she resisted Su Ling joining was likely out of jealousy.

She was jealous of Su Ling's beauty, her harmless appearance that easily evoked a protective instinct in men.

But in reality, beneath that harmless facade lay a decisive and iron-willed operative.

Jiang Zhimin and Zhang Miaomiao were close friends. Seeing her friend speak up, she also chimed in, "Yes, Yunlong, we're going home. Her route is different from ours. I think she wouldn't agree to join us either."

As she spoke, Jiang Zhimin looked at Su Ling, "Right, Su Ling?"

"Of course," Su Ling interjected, her expression blank, "Firstly, I have no intention of teaming up with anyone. Secondly, we are strangers with different routes. Lastly, I don't want to clean up other people's messes."

"What do you mean!" Zhang Miaomiao and Jiang Zhimin immediately became angry.

To them, who lacked combat ability, Su Ling's words were automatically interpreted as mocking their weakness.

Su Ling ignored the two, only looking at Li Yunlong and the other two, "Supplies are paramount for survival in the apocalypse. I wish you a smooth journey home."
