Chapter 2 Accompanying the Dead

She knew people were treacherous and had long been on guard.

In the end, she still lost to a comrade with whom she had fought side-by-side through life and death for five years.

On the city wall, Yang Guang held a sharp blade, her expression cold, leisurely slicing the rope Su Ling clutched tightly.

"The Northern Survivor Base is stable, we no longer need you."

To be unneeded was to be discarded.

Clutching the rope tightly, Su Ling narrowed her eyes, her gaze as sharp as frost, "Was it worth it?"

For a position, sacrificing a friend she had known since childhood.

Yang Guang and Han Xu, truly poor at accounting.

The Northern Survivor Base was built by her. Without her, it would be like a loose pile of sand, scattered to the wind.

If she died, the Northern Survivor Base would crumble.

"If it wasn't worth it, we wouldn't do it," Han Xu said, implying it was worth it.

Yang Guang, wearing a hat, smiled like a flower, but her words were heartless, "A Ling, don't blame us. If you must blame someone, blame yourself for being too kind."

In this apocalypse, kindness would only become a weakness, destined to achieve nothing great!

"You don't need to worry about your adopted sister and nephew being left uncared for after you're gone, because they've been waiting for you below for a long time."

Smiling cruelly, Yang Guang looked up at the sky.

The sun blazed in the sky, scorching hot.

Su Ling's breath hitched, her pupils contracted, and her heart ached, "What are you talking about?"

"Don't you understand yet?" Yang Guang lowered her head, looking directly at Su Ling, malice unmasked in her eyes, "During this mission, I arranged for someone to kill your sister and your dear nephew after we left."

"Not only your sister and nephew, but even the siblings Bai Heqing and Bai Yuling, they all died by my hand."

'Pfft,' a mouthful of blood spurted out, the strong smell of blood stimulating the zombies below the city wall.

"They shouldn't have died, it's I who should have died. But fate spared me, every time I was in crisis."

"The god of destiny always reached out a hand to me, finding a few people to take the fall for me."

"Not just the Bai siblings, but even those who fell for me. They would never have imagined..."

"They risked their lives to protect me, yet I personally pushed them into the zombie horde to buy myself a chance to survive."

"Tsk tsk, how pathetic, not even bones left."

"And Shang Qi, he was also killed by me and pushed into the zombie horde to be devoured by them."

"Yang Guang, Han Xu!"

A heart-wrenching roar, Su Ling's eyes turned red, her mouth smeared with blood.

Her hands, gripping the rope, bulged with veins, and she exerted all her strength to climb up.

Yang Guang watched her and directly declared a death sentence, "A Ling, goodbye. If there is an afterlife, you must never know me, nor become my comrade."

Her grip loosened, and Su Ling plummeted straight down.

She looked at the people standing on the city wall, those familiar faces.

Each one was etched into her bones.

Those she had saved now watched her fall with indifferent expressions.

The human heart, truly terrifying.

Yang Guang and Han Xu had indeed betrayed her trust.

To the people she cared about most, I'm sorry...

'Bang,' a loud crash, Su Ling hit the ground, zombies swarming instantly, tearing pain engulfing her entire body.

Su Ling looked up at the high city wall, flipped her hand, drew her knife, pointed it at her heart, and plunged it in forcefully, "If I die, the city wall will be destroyed, ten thousand people will be buried with me, until death do us part."

Blood gushed out. As her eyes closed, she saw the zombies surging like a tide.

...

Opening her eyes again, Su Ling saw a skeleton with tooth marks in front of her.

With a single glance, she knew it was her body.

And she, at this moment, was a lone soul.

Wailing screams echoed in the distance. She turned to look.

The tall city wall had long since collapsed, turning to ashes.

The people within the city wall were already surrounded by a swarming horde of zombies, fighting for their lives.

She watched Han Xu, to survive, personally push Yang Guang into the zombie horde.

Even so, Han Xu's fate was no different, becoming food for the zombies.

She smiled with bloodlust, "No one can get away with anything from me!"
