Chapter 27 The Scare

A few disbelievers, thinking Su Ling must have hidden the supplies somewhere, gritted their teeth and searched the villa again.

They turned the villa inside and out for the second time, still finding nothing.

Outside, the sky had completely darkened, and the entire villa was pitch black.

"Damn, I must have seen a ghost," Wang Qiang spat in the darkness, cursing their bad luck. "We searched the whole villa, the person isn't here, nor are any of the food, yet there were fish bones and garlic remnants in the trash can."

In the darkness, someone replied, "Could this villa have some kind of underground storage?"

As one person spoke, another chimed in, "The delicious smell at noon couldn't possibly come from such a poor place. And her backpack was bulging when she came back from her stroll. As a young girl, she couldn't have possibly consumed it all by noon."

"Another thing, don't you find it strange? We've been here for so long, making so much noise, why haven't we seen that young girl? We clearly saw her enter the villa and not leave!"

"Perhaps she's hiding."

"Yes, hiding." In the darkness, the man's voice was barely concealed excitement.

Soon, Wang Qiang and the others realized something was amiss.

The voice that just said, 'Perhaps she's hiding,' wasn't from one of them at all, but a woman's voice.

Wang Qiang and the others, slow to catch on, felt the oppressive darkness suddenly become eerie.

Despite it being the height of summer, they felt a chill wind blowing.

"Are you looking for me?" The female voice sounded again, cold as frost, sending shivers down their spines in the darkness.

Among the group, Wang Qiang was the bravest. He roared at the empty air, "Show yourself if you're human or ghost, stop playing tricks..."

Before Wang Qiang could finish his sentence, the pitch-black villa instantly lit up.

They looked over and saw a ball of pale blue light flickering in the air.

And on the second floor of the villa, by the railing, a person wearing a pale white mask with blood-red lips stood there. Dressed in white, she tilted her head slightly, her dark eyes peering down from behind the mask.

The next second, the person suddenly disappeared.

The second after that, she reappeared.

Wang Qiang and the others had seen their fair share of the world, but this scene still scared them out of their wits.

Then, the person standing on the second floor suddenly vaulted over the railing and jumped down, landing lightly in front of them. Before they could react, she vanished again from their sight, only to suddenly reappear before them.

"Ah, a ghost!"

Wang Qiang screamed and, abandoning his companions, became the first to flee.

Seeing Wang Qiang run, the others dared not linger and disappeared in a flash.

Once the villa returned to silence, Su Ling took off the white mask she was wearing. Holding the mask, she tilted her head and watched the fleeing figures outside the window, her lips slowly curving upwards, forming an icy, bloodthirsty arc.

"Truly, amusing."

The ball of pale blue and crimson flame jumped to her shoulder, kissed her cheek, and then burrowed into her body, disappearing without a trace. The villa once again plunged into darkness.

Su Ling, holding the mask and dressed in white, walked in the darkness. The night was as clear to her as day.

Wang Qiang and the others didn't climb over the wall to escape. Instead, they opened the villa door and fled.

Xu Yu, who had been beaten unconscious, groggily woke up to the wails. Before he could ascertain what was happening, something heavy landed on his chest. Wang Qiang stomped on his chest with a foot, and then his entire weight pressed down on him.

However, the foot remained only for a moment before disappearing. Before Xu Yu could catch his breath, the next person stepped on him.

"Ugh—" Xu Yu vomited a mouthful of blood and fainted again.
