Chapter 408: Chapter 367: Something Strange
Just when Zhuo Yuqing made up her mind, her voice carried a hint of hoarseness: "Go to bed early."
Zhuo Yuqing should have felt relieved, but for some reason, her feelings were somewhat strange.
The old lady would never admit she was caught eavesdropping. She composed her previously flustered expression and greeted her seriously: "Yuqing, why are you up so early? Don’t young people like to sleep in?"
"I couldn’t sleep so I got up, Bai..." Zhuo Yuqing was about to call out Bai Chengxi’s full name, but suddenly remembered they were married; calling him by his full name seemed too distant, so she changed her words in front of the old lady and said: "Chengxi is still sleeping."
"Then come take a walk with me, the air is very fresh on the hill behind us, early in the morning."
"Sure, grandma."
"Hold on for a moment," the old lady went back to the room to put on the clothes Zhuo Yuqing gave her the day before and walked out the door holding her granddaughter-in-law’s hand in high spirits.
The old lady and she chatted about Bai Chengxi’s childhood while strolling down the street.
"Chengxi was a very naughty kid, constantly getting spanked by his father every other day. One time, his dad had just signed a major contract, and when he turned around, the contract was gone. Outside in the villa’s backyard, the lawn was full of paper planes, and some were even thrown into the water. As a result, he was locked in the room and whipped by his dad. If it weren’t for my begging on his behalf, he might have been beaten to death by his father. We all thought this kid would never settle down when he grows up, but to our surprise, he changed completely once he started high school, and now his business is growing bigger and bigger, truly astonishing everyone," the old lady sighed repeatedly.
Zhuo Yuqing never imagined Bai Chengxi was such a mischievous child; he appeared to be the picture of propriety.
"Yuqing, how did you and Chengxi meet?" the old lady asked curiously.
This question stumped Zhuo Yuqing. She couldn’t possibly say she was picked up by Bai Chengxi after getting drunk, and then things that shouldn’t have happened occurred between them, leading to marriage out of responsibility.
Such a reason would be hurtful to reveal, so she told a kind lie to the old lady: "We met at a friend’s gathering."
"I thought so, it’s called hitting it off. Otherwise, why out of so many people, you two managed to come together." The old lady laughed heartily, her eyes lighting up as she spotted an old neighbor and quickly pulled Zhuo Yuqing to catch up with her: "Mrs. Tian, come over and have a look at my granddaughter-in-law."
Zhuo Yuqing greeted Mrs. Tian and listened to her praises, but her mind was on what the old lady had just said.
Could it really be that they saw eye to eye? Otherwise, out of so many people, there was no need for her to marry him, but she actually went with him to register their marriage voluntarily, without any pressure, all on her own accord.
Perhaps, some people, some things, are destined from the very beginning.
After returning to the Bai Family’s house from the mountain, Bai Chengxi had already woken up and was chatting with Father Bai. Seeing her come in, he pulled out a chair beside himself: "Come eat, I’ll take you to work later."
"Look at my Chengxi, so considerate," the old lady feigned anger: "He never offers me, his grandma, a seat."
"Grandma, sit here," Yuqing quickly pulled out another chair on the side and helped the old lady sit down.
The old lady said with a smile: "See, Yuqing is the kind one. I’ve spoiled this grandson for nothing."
Bai Chengxi didn’t feel any less loved; on the contrary, he sent a meaningful look toward Zhuo Yuqing, which made her feel flustered, and she quickly handed the chopsticks over to the old lady.
After eating, Bai Chengxi drove Zhuo Yuqing to the magazine company.
"I’ll come pick you up for lunch at noon. Didn’t you say the magazine’s canteen isn’t tasty?" He leaned over to unbuckle her seatbelt for her.
"I get off work at twelve o’clock noon, so I’ll wait for you downstairs," Zhuo Yuqing got out of the car and waved to him, "Drive safely."
He gave a light honk of the horn and left.
As soon as Bai Chengxi left, Tong Bi popped out from who knows where: "Zhuo Yuqing, I didn’t expect that you’ve even snagged someone with a Bentley."
Zhuo Yuqing couldn’t be bothered with her and walked towards the magazine office with her bag on her shoulder.
Following leisurely, Tong Bi’s mouth was full of sarcasm: "Why are you walking so fast? Could it be that you’ve done something guilty?"
"Tong Bi, are you just so bored that you’ve got nothing better to do?" Zhuo Yuqing couldn’t help but look at her with a face of helplessness, "What does what I do have to do with you? Can’t you just mind your own business instead of watching others all the time?"
"Zhuo Yuqing, to be honest with you, I just can’t stand the sight of you. As long as you stay in this magazine one more day, I’ll make sure you’re miserable every single day. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll resign quickly instead of being an eyesore to me," Tong Bi said, lifting her eyelids with a superior attitude as if she owned the place.
"Well, I’m afraid I’m going to disappoint you because I’m planning to put down roots here. If you can’t stand the sight of me, you’re the one who should leave," Zhuo Yuqing didn’t pay her any further attention and hurried into the building.
To avoid taking the elevator with Tong Bi, she went around the elevator hall to take the stairs.
She had just reached the third floor when she received a call from Gu Qili. She stopped and stood by a window to answer it: "Qili."
"Yuqing, come to Pujing Hotel on the sixth of next month for my wedding, don’t forget," Gu Qili’s voice was filled with joy, the satisfaction and excitement of a woman about to be married.
"Really, so soon." Zhuo Yuqing was genuinely happy for her. Gu Qili had endured so many hardships along the way, she deserved her happiness.
"Actually, it’s just a simple meal with relatives and friends. There won’t be any car parade, and no formal ceremony since Mu Shuoqian and I don’t really like those things."
"Ah? So you’re just going to breeze through it like that?"
"Mu Shuoqian and I are going to take wedding photos tomorrow, it’s as if we’re combining it with our honeymoon. What about you, Yuqing? When can I expect to attend your wedding? You’re not planning to quietly just register your marriage without throwing a ceremony, are you?"
Zhuo Yuqing really hadn’t thought about the wedding, but she felt that the Bai Family would not treat the marriage lightly.
"If there is a ceremony, you’ll definitely be invited," Zhuo Yuqing hesitated before asking, suddenly thinking of something, "Qili, does my brother know about it?"
Gu Qili had two reasons for calling Zhuo Yuqing. One was to invite her for the wedding drink, and the other was to seek her opinion.
"Yuqing, do you think I should invite your brother to the wedding?"
After so many years, Tang Tianyou’s feelings for her were clear to her, and she had subtly let him know many times. But Tang Tianyou’s stubbornness wasn’t something she could change with just a few words.
With her married, he should give up. But actually inviting him to the wedding would be a form of cruelty. Yet beyond this cruelty, she didn’t know how else to get him to completely move on from this relationship.
She still believed the same thing: he deserved better.
