Chapter 365: Chapter 330 Why Are You Living Apart?
Mu Qinian, despite his youth, was also very astute; he actually realized the situation as soon as he saw the tombstone.
"Did you really not abandon me on purpose?" Thinking about the years of being teased for not having a mother, Mu Qinian felt very wronged. Besides, Ali was the bride he intended to marry in the future, and suddenly she became his dad’s bride, his mother. He felt deeply resentful, always feeling like his dad, that jerk, had stolen his thunder.
"No, I swear, I swear in front of your grandfather," Gu Qili quickly raised her hand, her eyes clear, shining with earnestness and determination.
Mu Qinian pouted and after a while, asked, "What kind of person was my grandfather?"
When she heard him call grandfather, Gu Qili was first shocked, then her heart warmed as if a warm flow surrounded the left atrium. Gu Dezhong, who had passed away, would be comforted if he could hear this. She couldn’t help but hug Mu Qinian and softly said, "Your grandfather was a very kind, magnanimous, and sincere person."
"How did he die?"
Gu Qili’s lips quivered, wanting to dodge the question. The death of Gu Dezhong was something she still could not let go, but she also clearly understood that she no longer hated anyone, not even Qiu Lan.
As she hesitated, a set of gentle footsteps came from behind, and both of them turned their heads to see Mu Shuoqian in a black coat. His hands were in his pockets, his handsome figure still upright in the cold wind, with his hair a bit disheveled by the breeze, his thin lips pressed into a line.
Gu Qili’s heart fluttered, thinking he was angry that she brought Mu Qinian to see his grandfather secretly.
"I..." She was just about to explain when she heard the man say, "A living man erects a tombstone for himself, have someone take it down tomorrow."
Gu Qili let out a sigh of relief, so he cared about this. Despite his usual cold demeanor,
"Mm, I also want it taken down as soon as possible." Gu Qili held Mu Qinian’s chubby little hand. "Let’s go, it’s cold on the mountain."
As they descended the mountain, Yuan Yi’s car had already driven away, replaced by the Maybach that Mu Shuoqian drove, which was still the very same one she had driven before.
Once inside the car, Gu Qili helped Mu Qinian take off his coat. Underneath, he wore a blue sweater, the one she bought for him in S City.
Seeing her gaze fixed on his clothes, Mu Qinian’s face turned red. He wouldn’t tell her how much he liked the sweater; he even seldom washed it because he didn’t want to wear it out.
"Where to?" Mu Shuoqian asked as he drove the car out of the cemetery.
"Please take me back to the winery," she requested.
At her politeness, Mu Shuoqian frowned but said nothing, steering the car in the direction of the winery.
This was Mu Qinian’s first visit to this vineyard and he immediately liked it here because, besides growing grapes, there were many fruit trees around, including several large hawthorn trees laden with fruit.
Meizi liked children, and Mu Qinian started playing with him the moment he arrived, currently climbing a tree with him.
Mu Shuoqian looked at the neatly kept vineyard in front of him and then at the woman who stood not far away watching Mu Qinian climb with anxious care, yet who had never neglected the management of this estate. The estate would probably continue to improve under her meticulous care.
After returning from Detroit, it seemed like they had a tacit agreement not to bring up those events of the past anymore. Their interactions became cautious; neither dared to pierce that paper window easily, fearing that any carelessness could lead to making things worse. He didn’t understand her feelings, she didn’t grasp his thoughts, and they watched each other like walking on thin ice.
"Mr. Mu, you are here too." Fan Bin’s voice came from behind, his hand carrying a pheasant: "Strangled by the wire fence, it’s freshly dead. The kitchen just so happens to have fresh mushrooms picked this year. If Mr. Mu doesn’t mind, please stay for lunch and try my pheasant stewed with mushrooms."
As Fan Bin spoke, Gu Qili also looked over.
Mu Shuoqian met her gaze and did not look away, nodding his head: "Okay."
His eyes burned into her with an undisguised intensity,
She hurriedly turned away, just in time for a bunch of hawthorns to be tossed her way, and the unexpected hit landed on her shoulder.
Mu Qinian on the tree didn’t expect her to miss it. Glancing at her shoulder struck by the hawthorn, he pouted and said, "So clumsy."
"Mu Qinian." The man’s low roar came, "Who taught you to throw things at people?"
"What are you yelling for? He didn’t do it on purpose, he just wanted to throw the hawthorns for me to eat," Gu Qili couldn’t stand his tendency to roar out of habit, picked up the hawthorns from the ground, and smiled at Mu Qinian: "Thank you."
