Chapter 302: Chapter 281: Did You Cause the Gu Family’s Bankruptcy? _2

He succeeded, she indeed felt life was too painful to bear, and today, exposing Zhou Xiaoyu’s identity had become an irony.

He never loved her, he just thought of a way to sleep with her and then kick her away; to let her fall in love with him and then abandon her; he even fabricated an ex to humiliate her. His kindness towards her was nothing but revenge.

And she, day and night, lay in the same bed with the man who killed her father. Now, she even carries his child; just a moment ago, she was complacent about saving their relationship for the sake of this child.

"Miss, you have arrived at your destination." The driver stopped the car at the foot of the Pujing Government Building, calling out twice to the girl lost in thought in the back seat: "Miss, Miss."

Gu Qili shifted her gaze from the roof of the car to his face, and after a long look, she grabbed her purse and got out of the car.

"Miss, you haven’t paid yet." The driver called out anxiously.

Gu Qili opened her wallet, not sure how much she took out, and threw a handful of money onto the car seat.

"Miss, you’ve given too much, hey hey." The driver tried to call her back, but she had already quickly walked away.

Mu Shuoqian sat for a while, then gestured for a waiter, knowing she liked iced mochas, so he ordered one. If made now, it would be perfect for when she arrived, especially with the weather so hot outside; an iced mocha couldn’t be more perfect.

Waiting is always boring, yet Mu Shuoqian’s face only showed anticipation. Even knowing that his demeanor would inevitably be cold when meeting her, and it wouldn’t change anything, having the chance to talk to her up close, even if it meant hurting each other, was something he welcomed.

Mu Shuoqian waited a bit longer and the iced mocha he had ordered was served. Just as the waiter left, a slender and familiar figure appeared at the entrance.

Mu Shuoqian immediately sat up straight and once again fixed his hair against his phone screen. He well knew she would never come back to him, but maintaining his best appearance in front of her seemed to have become a habit.

Gu Qili also caught sight of Mu Shuoqian in an instant. She suppressed the complex emotions in her eyes and quickly walked towards him.

Mu Shuoqian looked up, about to speak, when the girl standing across the table suddenly grabbed the large cup of iced mocha and splashed it towards him. Caught off guard, he was drenched in the cold coffee, the cream sticking to his freshly changed clothes, making him appear slovenly.

There weren’t many people in the coffee shop, but still, a couple of tables turned their attention to the commotion, looking over with curiosity.

The handsome man, usually proud and unruly, was now in a sorry state covered in coffee. But he wasn’t angered; instead, he simply gazed with dark eyes at the petite girl in front of him, furious yet delicate.

Some people were worried for the girl, fearing the handsome man would react violently, since she had made him lose face in front of so many.

But the man didn’t move at all, not even bothering to wipe off the coffee stains on him.

Gu Qili calmed the breathlessness caused by her quick walk, and placed the now empty coffee cup heavily on the table, staring at the man in front of her, the man she once loved to her marrow, and hissed through clenched teeth: "Mu Shuoqian, I only have one question for you; you just need to answer ’yes’ or ’no’."

Mu Shuoqian watched her silently, beneath his calm exterior, a bad premonition slamming against his insides.

An endless fear assailed from all sides, turning his complexion paler by the second.

Gu Qili took a deep breath, striving to stay calm. She stared into his eyes and spoke slowly but firmly: "The Gu Family’s bankruptcy was your doing, wasn’t it? And your kindness to me was just a means of revenge, right?"

Those few seconds seemed to stretch into an eternity for both of them, their gazes locked. They were so close to each other, yet separated by a chasm of differences.

Gu Qili admitted that at that moment, how she wished he would deny it. If only he said ’no’, she would immediately believe him, just as she had unreservedly in the past.

Yet, she watched as Mu Shuoqian’s perfectly shaped lips parted slightly, issuing a single syllable.

He said: "Yes."

It felt like a punch to the chest, and Gu Qili staggered, nearly falling to the ground. She grasped the edge of the table, her fingers gripping it tightly.

It was as though there was a knife violently twisting inside her, the pain so intense she couldn’t breathe.

It was only a minute, but it felt like a century. Suddenly, she looked at him, forcing a smile, a smile so bitter with an intense hatred.

It was as if Mu Shuoqian had been slapped across the face. He watched in panic as this intense hatred churned in her eyes—the very expression he feared most to see on her face. Even when they broke up, she had never looked at him with such despair and anger. Goosebumps erupted all over his skin, every cell in his body screaming in turmoil.

The thing he had feared most finally happened, the outcome he least wished to see was upon them.

"Mu Shuoqian," Gu Qili said between clenched teeth, laughing out of sheer rage, "What exactly did the Gu Family do to make you go to such lengths? Wasn’t driving my father to his death enough? What more do you want from me now, my life?"

Mu Shuoqian remained silent. He could not tell her about the things Gu Dezhong had done in the past; he could not bear to break her heart by revealing the truth about this person she loved and revered most in the world. Let him bear all the sins and hatred of the older generation alone. Let her vent all of her hatred on him while she continued to preserve those precious memories of her father.

After the pain subsides, there will be peace; after the rainy days, there will be clear skies. Her future can still be bright.

Let it be this way, let it end this way.
