Chapter 364 The Foodie

"Can you two stop arguing?"

Chen Wan'er's face was grim.

She and Lin Fan were discussing sacred medicine, and these two kept chattering endlessly, which was too annoying!

"Xiao Fan, I want to see for myself how you treat people. Can I?"

After much thought, Chen Wan'er made her request.

"Of course."

Lin Fan readily agreed.

He said to Su Yurou, "Why don't you go back first?"

"Xiao Fan, I..."

Su Yurou wanted to bring up Borun Pharmaceutical. This was a golden opportunity for her to soar to success, its importance was self-evident.

Lin Fan nodded at her, and a smile of excitement bloomed on her face.

"I'm leaving."

She waved and got up to leave.

Bai Jing glared at her, "Finally, no one is in the way."

Chen Wan'er stood up and said to Lin Fan, "Xiao Fan, what can we do to help you?"

"No need, I can manage alone."

Lin Fan felt too embarrassed to boss around Tian Mengyao's mother.

"I am a senior physician at the Provincial Hospital. If there's anything you need, just assign it."

Chen Wan'er said earnestly.

"Then... would you be in charge of the Western medicine cabinet?"

Lin Fan pointed to the place where Song Yue had once stood.

"Certainly."

A confident gleam flickered in Chen Wan'er's eyes.

"Let me get you some clothes."

Lin Fan took down a nurse's uniform hanging on the wall. "The size might not be perfect, but please make do."

"As long as it's something to wear."

Chen Wan'er took the nurse's uniform and put it on.

Bai Jing hesitated for a moment before asking, "Then what should I do?"

She flexed her wrists, looking very capable.

"You..."

Lin Fan didn't know her relationship with Chen Wan'er, but it seemed she didn't get along well with Tian Mengyao.

"How about you go chop some firewood?"

"What? You want me to chop firewood?"

Bai Jing's anger flared instantly.

She strongly suspected Lin Fan was retaliating against her.

Lin Fan pointed at the kettle by the brazier. "In the beginning, I planned to give Aunt Chen a heat therapy for her knees, but later..."

He trailed off, unsure how to continue.

Chen Wan'er's face flushed crimson. The feeling of being held tightly in Lin Fan's arms, her cheek pressed against his chest, seemed to return.

"Aunt Chen, what's wrong?"

Bai Jing keenly noticed Chen Wan'er's unusual reaction and was utterly bewildered.

"I'm fine."

Chen Wan'er chided, "I raised you for so many years when you were little. Are you really unwilling to chop firewood and fetch water for me now?"

"When did I ever?"

Bai Jing lowered her head, feeling wronged. "I'll go right away."

Chen Wan'er shook her head. With this girl's temper, how would she ever get married?

She suddenly thought that her own daughter, at least, wouldn't have to worry about marriage.

But her husband disagreed!

After years of hard work raising their daughter, she had even planned her future path step by step. Now, her daughter had suddenly gotten involved with a mountain village boy. It was infuriating!

Chen Wan'er went around to the back of the Western medicine cabinet, examining the medicines and tools while secretly observing Lin Fan.

As the saying goes, a mother-in-law looks at her son-in-law and likes him more the more she sees him.

Lin Fan was also a medical student. If he became her son-in-law, they would have someone to talk to about medicine.

Her husband, like her daughter, was not interested in medicine, which left her feeling greatly disappointed.

She had always intended to train her daughter to be a doctor, but she couldn't go against her husband's wishes, so she had no choice but to let her daughter pursue a career in officialdom.

"Miracle Doctor Lin."

Just then, a tall, sturdy man arrived.

Chen Wan'er's face lit up with joy, thinking a patient had arrived.

"Oh?"

The tall man, holding a paper-wrapped package, stood at the door, and his gaze lingered on the graceful Chen Wan'er, momentarily dazed.

"It's you."

Lin Fan smiled and introduced Chen Wan'er. "This elder brother and his two younger brothers carried their old mother to my clinic back then, and I helped her clear the phlegm that was blocking her throat."

"Oh~"

Chen Wan'er's eyes brightened, which made the tall man a bit embarrassed.

"Miracle Doctor Lin, we were plowing the fields today, and my mother found some bean worms. She fried them and asked me to bring them to you."

The tall man placed the paper-wrapped package on the counter.

"Bean worms!"

Lin Fan's mouth watered. "These are good stuff!"

When he was young, bean worms were cheap. He often went to other people's fields to pick up bean worms they dug up, then found a place to build a bonfire and roast them. They smelled amazing!

In recent years, due to the widespread use of pesticides, bean worms have become increasingly rare. It's said that in some places, they can sell for two to three hundred yuan a pound!

"Heh heh."

The tall man chuckled. "Miracle Doctor Lin, thank you for saving my mother. I'll be going now."

"Please thank the elder for me."

Lin Fan picked up the paper-wrapped package and weighed it. It was about half a pound. He wondered how far the elder had walked and how long she had spent in the fields to find so many bean worms.

Chen Wan'er sniffed the air, her face filled with joy.

Every time she saw patients present banners of appreciation in the hospital or heard words of gratitude from their families, she felt that she was engaged in a noble profession.

Bai Jing, having finished chopping firewood, came into the room and asked, "What is it? Why does it smell so good?"

"Bean worms."

Lin Fan opened the paper-wrapped package. Inside, plump bean worms, about the length of a thumb, were fried to a golden crisp, making them look appetizing.

"Bean worms? You mean bean grubs, right?"

Bai Jing was not only unafraid but also leaned in eagerly.

"Wow, they're so big. Are they wild?"

Her eyes were wide open, and she was drooling.

"Look at you."

Chen Wan'er placed her hands on Bai Jing's shoulders from behind. "A patient's family sent them to thank Xiao Fan."

"Aunt Chen, let's eat together. I'll get some chopsticks."

Lin Fan placed the paper-wrapped package on the coffee table.

"No, no."

Bai Jing had already forgotten the slight animosity between them and grinned greedily.

"Eat up."

Chen Wan'er knew her niece's nature well and said helplessly.

Bai Jing chuckled, extended her slender, fair fingers, picked up the fattest bean worm, tilted her head back, and popped it into her mouth.

"Crunch, crunch."

The crisp sound of chewing.

Bai Jing's face was full of enjoyment, making both Lin Fan and Chen Wan'er crave them.

"Mmm, good, very good."

Bai Jing nodded repeatedly. "It's just missing some pepper salt. Why didn't you add pepper salt? That's the soul of fried food!"

"Eat your own."

Chen Wan'er nudged her impatiently.

"Aunt Chen, you try some too."

The three of them gathered around the coffee table and enjoyed the meal heartily.

"I'm getting a bit greasy. Is there any water?"

Bai Jing had eaten the most. Soon, seeing that only a few were left, she finally stopped eating.

"Water... I'll get you an apple."

There was no hot water in the clinic, and Lin Fan thought it wasn't good to give people cold water.

"Okay, that works. Hurry up."

Bai Jing said casually.
