"So what are you planning to do now?" Fu Wenwen asked Lin Feng.
Lin Feng shook his head. "We can only verify if this information is true first. We need to prove it one by one and get solid evidence. Without real proof, it's hard to catch the big fish later."
Just as Fu Wenwen was about to speak, a sharp screech of brakes came from outside the door. Fu Wenwen and Lin Feng had just reached the courtyard when Peng Tao, who had impatiently jumped out of the car, pushed the door open and rushed in.
"Kid, you were born for this! Something that takes others months to accomplish, you found something fishy about it the very next day." Peng Tao couldn't help but step forward and punch Lin Feng upon seeing him. Lin Feng calmly caught his fist.
"This is not a matter of you not even informing me about my own explanations," Lin Feng snorted coldly.
"This... Sister-in-law, I'm here again." Peng Tao ignored Lin Feng and smiled at Fu Wenwen. "Sorry to bother you."
"Don't be so polite, come in and sit! We can talk about anything inside." Fu Wenwen chuckled. Peng Tao and Lin Feng exchanged a look, and they went into the house and headed to Lin Feng's room.
Fu Wenwen beckoned the soldier driving the car to come in, but the soldier quickly shook his head. "Sister-in-law, no need to trouble yourself."
Seeing that he refused to come in no matter what, standing guard by the door, Fu Wenwen took some water out to him. "If you won't come in, I'll bring it out. You won't make me take it back, will you?"
"Thank you, Sister-in-law." Seeing that Fu Wenwen had put it that way, the soldier quickly picked up the cup and drank it in one gulp.
He only realized it was sweetened water after it went into his mouth. He looked at Fu Wenwen and nodded.
Fu Wenwen brought the empty cup back into the house. Lin An had just woken up from his nap, rubbing his eyes and looking for Fu Wenwen everywhere. Fu Wenwen quickly picked him up.
"Slept well?" Fu Wenwen asked with a smile, rubbing his face to wake him up.
"Mom, what was that loud noise earlier? I couldn't sleep. Is Daddy back? I think I heard Daddy's voice..." Lin An had been woken up by Peng Tao's sudden braking. In his sleepy daze, he seemed to have heard Lin Feng's voice, but when he came out, he didn't see Lin Feng.
"Daddy and Uncle are upstairs discussing something. Mom is going out to buy groceries. Do you want to go with Mom or play by yourself at home?" Fu Wenwen asked with a smile, kissing the still-groggy Lin An.
Lin An yawned. "Daddy's busy, so I'll go with Mom to buy groceries..."
Fu Wenwen came out with a vegetable basket. Seeing Fu Wenwen leave, the soldier said, "Sister-in-law, I'm going out to buy groceries. Please help me keep an eye on the house."
"Yes, Sister-in-law." The soldier immediately saluted and stood by the door, motionless.
Fu Wenwen took Lin An to the black market. As they reached the intersection of the black market, she saw Xiao Liuzi peering from the alleyway. Seeing Fu Wenwen, Xiao Liuzi immediately waved at her.
"Heroine!" Xiao Liuzi said happily.
"Uncle." Lin An saw Xiao Liuzi and said with a smile.
"Hey, An'an, hello!" Xiao Liuzi reached out to Lin An. Lin An glanced at Fu Wenwen, and seeing her consent, he extended his hand to Xiao Liuzi.
Xiao Liuzi happily put Lin An on his shoulders and lifted him up. "An'an, sit tight, Uncle Liuzi will give you a ride on a horse, let's go~~"
"Wahaha..." Lin An instantly woke up and burst into laughter.
Fu Wenwen walked into the alley with a smile. As they were about to reach the black market, Xiao Liuzi gestured for Fu Wenwen to look at a house at the intersection. Fu Wenwen stopped in front of the house, and the door opened by itself.
She looked up and saw Wang Hu. Fu Wenwen was not surprised to see Wang Hu and said with a light smile, "You're here."
"You saved my life again!" Wang Hu had already heard what happened from Liu Fang and was grateful that Fu Wenwen was there at the time, otherwise, things would not have ended that way.
"What's your situation? Haven't you subdued them?" Fu Wenwen asked Wang Hu.
"I gave that area of the dark alley to Qin Laohu, but I also restricted him from taking in new people." Wang Hu did not hide anything from Fu Wenwen and told her his plans.
After listening to Wang Hu, Fu Wenwen shook her head. "You have your plans, and he will surely have his counter-plans. Either stop it completely, or if there's demand, there will be a market. How can you stop it?"
"Then what should we do?" Wang Hu looked at Fu Wenwen. "Those people can't find jobs. They've lost their reputation and have no money to live. They..."
"I grew up in that kind of environment," Wang Hu said wistfully.
Fu Wenwen paused and looked back at Wang Hu.
"Because you know their lives, you should try to pull them out. In that abyss, can you expect them to have any self-respect?" Fu Wenwen looked at Wang Hu. "The deeper you are in the abyss, the more you should know how precious your current life is."
"Why do you think they want to do something like selling their bodies? Have you ever thought about it?" Fu Wenwen asked.
Wang Hu paused. He knew this. "Because they need to survive."
"Then just help them survive. If they have other ways to live, why would they do such things?" Fu Wenwen said slowly. "You need people right now. Why not let them help you? As long as you give them food, I believe anyone who isn't stupid will know how to choose."
"As for those who are incorrigible and beyond saving, why bother with them? Opportunities are only for those who want to change." Fu Wenwen's words shocked Wang Hu and provided a new perspective.
"I might know what they can do..." Wang Hu looked up at Fu Wenwen. Fu Wenwen smiled lightly. "You decide for yourself. You are now in charge of Fengcheng."
"You say that, but if it weren't for you, I wouldn't be where I am today," Wang Hu said with a smile.
"No, you would have taken Fengcheng even without me, just perhaps not so quickly," Fu Wenwen replied with a slight smile. Wang Hu chuckled and did not deny it.
"By the way, I found these things at Chen Long's house." Wang Hu remembered the main business and beckoned Fu Wenwen.
Fu Wenwen raised an eyebrow and followed him inside. Wang Hu came out with a pile of account books.
"You handed Chen Long over to your... husband... I think these might be useful to your husband too." Wang Hu remembered that Fu Wenwen's husband was none other than Lin Feng. He was still somewhat bewildered by this, but since it was Fu Wenwen's business, he dared not ask.
"You're surprised that he's my husband?" Fu Wenwen asked, amused by Wang Hu's awkward words.
"Can you not be surprised?" Wang Hu said helplessly.
It was like a thief marrying a police officer; something he wouldn't even dare to imagine. "How did you two get together? Does he know about your affairs?"
