"I'm preparing to send this box home to my parents! Thank you for your trouble," Fu Wenwen said with a smile.
The old aunt's son glanced at his mother. To spare her any embarrassment, he directly picked up the grain and turned to leave.
"Old aunt, why did he leave?" Fu Wenwen asked, confused.
"He probably wants to go back and see if he can find some sacks for you..." Knowing her son was trying to save her from losing face and had hurried home to exchange the old grain for better quality, the old aunt chuckled awkwardly.
The old aunt's son returned, carrying the grain. All the grain poured into the box was good quality. The old aunt, holding the clothes, quickly took her son and left.
Xiao Hong glanced at Fu Wenwen.
"It's good you gave me a heads-up beforehand, otherwise, I would never have noticed." In Fu Wenwen's eyes, all rice looked the same; she couldn't tell the difference between old and new.
Xiao Hong patted Fu Wenwen.
Liu Qiang, seeing that all the clothes were sold, also prepared to head home.
"We're leaving!"
"Thank you, Sister Xiao Hong, and Brother Liu," Fu Wenwen said with a smile, escorting them to the door.
Looking at the entire warehouse filled with grain, Fu Wenwen happily scooped Lin An up. "Look, we'll never have to worry about going hungry again!"
Lin An was suddenly picked up by Fu Wenwen. Before he could react, he saw the warehouse stacked with grain. Never having seen so much food before, Lin An was momentarily stunned, his eyes gazing at Fu Wenwen with admiration.
Fu Wenwen happily tickled Lin An's nose. "We both need to eat well and keep our bodies healthy."
Fu Wenwen had just finished cooking a pot of white rice and was preparing to make braised pork with the leftover meat from last time. Zhang Cuihua and Xiao Hong arrived with their husbands, carrying many dishes. Xiao Hong had even brought the old hen that laid eggs at her home.
"Sister Xiao Hong, please take this chicken back! This chicken is too valuable; I can't accept it," Fu Wenwen objected. Even if she didn't know much, she knew that an old laying hen in a village was definitely a prized possession.
"This isn't really mine! Xiao Fang asked me to give it to you!" Xiao Hong chuckled lightly, placing the chicken on the ground. She then gestured to the basket of vegetables in Xu Yaozu's hand. "Ling Ling asked me to bring this to you!"
"Just accept it," Zhang Cuihua said with a smile. "Wu Fang is the village chief's daughter-in-law. You sold these clothes so cheaply; she can afford to gift you an old hen."
"Then... please thank them for me." With Zhang Cuihua's assurance, Fu Wenwen smilingly accepted.
"Please sit down. I'll go cook," Fu Wenwen said, gesturing for them to sit while she went to the kitchen to continue preparing the meal.
Zhang Cuihua and Xiao Hong told their husbands to sit properly and then followed Fu Wenwen into the kitchen to help.
"Oh my! I didn't realize you were such a good cook!" Zhang Cuihua exclaimed, watching the braised pork simmering in Fu Wenwen's pot. She tasted the broth and her eyes lit up. "We're in for a treat today."
"I'm glad you like it," Fu Wenwen smiled.
Knowing Fu Wenwen's culinary skills were excellent, Zhang Cuihua and Xiao Hong then took it upon themselves to wash the vegetables, as their own cooking skills were rather average.
The three worked together in a tacit understanding, and Fu Wenwen prepared four dishes, one meat dish, and one soup.
"Delicious!" Liu Qiang and Xu Yaozu couldn't stop eating after their first bite. The five adults and one child managed to finish all six dishes.
After this meal, Zhang Cuihua and Xiao Hong looked at Fu Wenwen with even greater affection. It was evident that Fu Wenwen had genuinely treated them well, and in return for sincerity, they naturally felt the warmth.
