Chapter 29: DOUBLE WEDDING 2
"Since you will need Lu Fei instead, then why don’t you both get married today along with me and Mo Ying!"
The courtyard went silent at my words. All eyes turned to me in shock.
"What? She wants them to marry today too?"
"This will be a double wedding?"
"Heavens, this is truly retribution!"
Big Man Lou’s face broke into a wide grin. "Hah! I like this idea! Since I was tricked, it’s only fair I take what is owed to me right now."
He turned to Lu Fei, who was trembling like a leaf in the wind. "Girl, you are mine now. Don’t even think of escaping."
Lu Fei shook her head wildly, screaming, "No! I won’t do it! I can’t marry him!" She staggered back, trying to hide behind her mother.
Aunt Lu clutched her tightly, tears streaming down her face. "No, please! Don’t force her! We will find a way to pay you back, just give us more time!"
But Big Man Lou only laughed. "Three hundred and fifty taels? With what will you pay me? You wasted everything already! Your daughter is payment enough."
The villagers nodded in agreement, their voices loud.
"She deserves it after what she tried to do!"
"This is the best punishment for her wicked heart."
"Yes, let her pay the debt with her life."
"Black Dog, take hold of her, make sure she doesn’t escape... I’ll go get dressed and bring my children. The wedding must go on."
He laughed out loud as he made his way out. Soon the entire villagers went back to their tables while the Lu family pursued Black Dog as he carried their daughter away.
Sighing, I turned to Mo Ying whose eyes were fixed on me, "You did it!" he said as I smiled.
"Hmm... still couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you, Mo Ying," I said softly and I swear I saw a smile on his face.
"Lin Xu!" Yan Mei called my name as she rushed towards us with Zu Shi beside her.
"Lin Xu, thank goodness you’re alright... We shouldn’t have left you alone with Lu Fei!" Zu Shi said as I just laughed.
"If you didn’t leave us alone then the drama today wouldn’t have occurred." I laughed happily. It was as though something had lifted off my shoulder. Dealing with the Lu family brought me so much relief.
"Lin Xu, since there’s gonna be two weddings, what are we going to do about your wedding dress? Lu Fei now wears yours and you’re left with nothing."
Hearing that, I sighed. I forgot about that.
"There’s no need to worry. I already got that problem solved. Fuhan!" Mo Ying called out as just then, Fuhan arrived with a box and inside was another wedding dress.
Surprised, I asked, "How did you get another one so fast?"
"After you knocked Lu Fei out and wore her your dress I knew it was already gone so I immediately got a new one... after all, Big Man Lou did say the wedding must go on."
He said as he then turned around, "Yan Mei, Zu Shi, I’ll leave her in your hands..."
With that he left as Fuhan followed behind him.
Sigh! Such a strange man!
---
Well in an hour’s time, the wedding started and I was ready. The wedding dress was way better than the last one. It looked more expensive too.
Entering into the room was Mrs. Yan as she informed, "Alright ladies... The wedding procession has started... let’s escort the bride out!"
"Alright!"
.....
The courtyard buzzed as the two brides were led out—me in red silk, Lu Fei dragged forward with a pale face and messy hair.
The villagers whispered.
"One bride honored, one disgraced."
At the altar, Mo Ying stood tall, his gaze never leaving me. I walked toward him steadily, ignoring Lu Fei’s hateful glare.
The drums rolled. Firecrackers cracked.
The chief announced, "First bow—to Heaven and Earth!"
Mo Ying and I bowed. Beside us, Big Man Lou forced Lu Fei down as she struggled.
"Second bow—to the parents!"
I turned, bowing to the elders with calm grace. Lu Fei cried out, refusing, until Big Man Lou yanked her by the hair to kneel.
"Third bow—between husband and wife!"
Mo Ying and I faced each other. His eyes softened briefly, almost like a promise, before we bowed. Behind, Lu Fei shook her head violently, but Big Man Lou pushed her down until her forehead hit the ground.
The villagers clapped, some cheering, some whispering at the strange sight of a double wedding so different in tone.
Just like that, the ceremony ended—two brides, two fates sealed on the same day.
After the wedding ended... the guests were all entertained... good food, drinks, music... it was a very beautiful day.
Soon Big Man Lou left with Lu Fei together with his many children, men and the Lu family.
Officially there was going to be more drama between them but right now I just wanted to relax and enjoy my wedding.
I still couldn’t believe that I was really getting married. Yes, not for love and it’s just for mutual benefits, but I still couldn’t shake the feeling off that I’m now someone’s official wife.
While there were dances going on, suddenly Fuhan arrived and whispered some things into Mo Ying’s ear as I saw Mo Ying’s expression change into a very serious one.
Before I could ask what was wrong, he suddenly stood up and turned to me with a faint smile. "I have something important to do, you’ll have to excuse me!"
Before I could respond he left with Fuhan as I just stared at their backs until they disappeared.
I wasn’t the only one who noticed their weird behavior as Zu Shi walked up towards me. "Lin Xu, your husband seems to have some business to attend to... for someone who just arrived here, he shouldn’t have involved himself with something serious yet he seems quite occupied."
She said and I understood what she meant. Mo Ying wasn’t an ordinary person but I didn’t care at this point.
This marriage isn’t real anyway... so his business has nothing to do with me.
